Each Russound Amplifier and Preamplifier offers the following standard features: party modes, alarm and sleep timers, do not disturb zone designation, source and zone linking, all-on/all-off participation, and other customization settings.

The SMZ16 offers unpowered source loop outputs and line level outputs for all 16 zones and can be configured for fixed or variable output. This makes the pre-amplifier perfect for outdoor areas or larger indoor rooms where more audio power is required from a dedicated amplifier.

The SMZ16 amplifier supports up to 16 audio sources in any combination of its available analog, digital, or wireless streaming connections to deliver high quality audio to up to 16 zones in a home or commercial building, or up to 48 zones when networked with 5 additional Russound SMZ amplifiers. Supported physical input connections include Ethernet, stereo analog, digital optical, digital coax, HDMI ARC, or USB. The Amplifier also supports wireless audio streaming through its built-in audio streamer and pair of Wi-Fi/Bluetooth antenna. The built-in audio streamer is defaulted to be Source 1, leaving the other sources available. If desired, the built-in streamer can be bypassed, and a different audio source used instead of it.

The SMZ16's Bluetooth range can be increased by 500 ft with the Russound BTC-2X Bluetooth Remote Transceiver or the Russound BSK-2 Bluetooth Source Kit through dedicated ethernet and R-NET Ports. Two other ethernet ports with a built-in switch can be used for a wired ethernet connection or to network with an additional Russound amplifier.

Installation Details

The SMZ16 can be rack mounted into a standard media cabinet with included hardware or placed onto a desktop surface. Speakers are connected to the SMZ8 using the supplied removable, screw-down speaker connectors. Each of these connectors is designated for the speaker set of a particular amplified zone.
