As a leader in the home automation industry, Shelly offers innovative devices that can work without a dedicated smart home hub and eliminate the need to replace existing switches and outlets. Shelly's line of smart relay modules and sensors offers a slew of features that include wireless connectivity, voice control functionality, scheduling and timers, power and energy monitoring, overheating and overpower protection, advanced scripting, multiple relay options, LAN and Cloud control, and remote control of your connected devices via the Shelly Smart Control App (for iOS and Android devices).
Notable Shelly Features
Retrofit Design
You won't have to replace existing fixtures with expensive smart switches or outlets. Shelly smart switches and relays boast a unique, small form factor design, which allows them to be wired and installed behind existing wall switches and outlets or within your fusebox in order to transform them into smart automation controllers. This allows homeowners to upgrade their home, all while keeping the aesthetics of their current interior decor. Shelly also offers theirPro series smart switches that are more powerful and DIN-rail mountable, making them ideal for more professional installations in electrical panels or other structured wiring enclosures.
Multi-Protocol Connectivity
Shelly devices are available in a variety of models that are compatible with one or more communication protocols which include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave 700 or 800, Z-Wave LR, Matter, as well as compatibility with voice assistants and MQTTS and HTTPS web hooks.
Devices that share the same wireless protocol connectivity are grouped together under the same product line name. Having support for a vast array of protocols ensures compatibility with popular smart home and voice assistant platforms such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant, and others. Users will have plenty of options to choose from when it comes to selecting the right Shelly device that supports protocols that best fits their existing home automation needs.
Shelly devices’ wireless compatibility are grouped into the following product lines:
- Shelly Gen4 devices are compatible with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, and Matter
- Shelly Wave Pro devices are compatible with Z-Wave Plus 800,
- Shelly Wave and Wave Pro US devices are compatible with both Z-Wave Plus 800 and Z-Wave LR,
- Shelly Pro devices are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth compatible,
- Shelly Plus devices are Wi-Fi compatible
- Shelly BLU devices are compatible with Bluetooth
Energy Monitoring
Real-time energy monitoring capabilities are included in select Shelly devices. This will allow users to track energy usage of connected devices to help determine which devices use more energy so that users can make decisions to reduce energy consumption, lower electricity costs, and improve energy efficiency. Energy monitoring data is accessed via the Shelly Smart Control app, which can show both real time status updates and historical data.
No Hub Required for Select Devices
Shelly devices that are Wi-Fi or Bluetooth compatible can be controlled directly from the Shelly Smart Control app without the need for a smart home controller. The Shelly Smart Control app allows users to manage and monitor Shelly Gen4, Shelly Pro, Shelly Plus, and Shelly BLU devices from their mobile device whether they are at home or away. The Smart Control app gives the option for Shelly networks to be allowed to be remotely managed from anywhere via connection to Shelly’s cloud servers, or to only be managed locally when the controlling device with the Smart Control app is sharing the same network as the other Shelly devices.
Scripting Capabilities
Some Shelly devices offer advanced scripting features. For example, the Shelly Plus, Gen4, and Shelly Pro series can run custom scripts on the device using JavasScript, KNX. Users can create custom automations to control the device itself such as triggering relays for On/Off, adjust dimming, and other automation actions, as well as allow communication with other devices using HTTP, MQTT, or CoAP.
Popular Shelly Devices
Shelly smart relay modules and sensors offer a wide range of features to put you in control of your lights, appliances, and other devices. Integrating Shelly smart relays and switches into your home means you can add home automation control, create automation scenes, set schedules, and control and manage these devices remotely via the Shelly Smart Control App using a smartphone, tablet, PC, or your home automation platform; plus, Shelly devices do not require the use of a smart home hub but can be easily integrated into existing smart home hub setups. Below are some of the most popular Shelly devices:
Shelly 1 Gen4 / Shelly 1PM Gen4 / Shelly Wave 1 US / Shelly Wave 1PM
The Shelly 1 Gen4, 1PM Gen4, Wave 1 US, and Wave 1PM are compact relay switches that install behind wall switches and outlets so that users can control lights and other appliances. The Shelly 1PM and Wave 1PM provide power monitoring functionality for real-time energy usage data while the Shelly 1 Gen4 and Wave 1 US do not and functions offer only On/Off control. The Gen4 models do not require the use of a smart home hub and support multi-protocol connectivity with Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Bluetooth, and Matter, while the Wave models communicate via Z-Wave and require a compatible Z-Wave hub to operate.
Shelly Mini
Shelly's line of 1 and 1PM Mini compact Wi-Fi relay switches offer the same features as the non-Mini 1 and 1PM series but come in a smaller form factor. This size allows them to be installed in smaller, hard-to-fit areas and in some cases within the device's or appliance's casing. The key difference between the two is the Shelly 1PM Mini Gen4 includes real-time energy monitoring while the Shelly Mini Gen4 is just a smart relay switch. Both the Shelly 1 Mini Gen4 and 1PM Mini Gen4 support up to 8 amps at 240 volts AC and 5 amps at 30 volts DC and offer overheat protection.
Shelly Wi-Fi Plus 0-10V Dimmer
You'll be able to add remote dimming functionality to your in-wall light switch with the Shelly Plus 0-10V Dimmer. It supports multiple types of drivers for lights, motors, and valves, and adds Wi-Fi connectivity to enable On/Off/Dim/Brighten control over a connected light via the switch or with the use of smartphone, tablet, PC, or home automation system.
Shelly Wi-Fi Plus 2PM UL-Certified / Shelly Wave Pro Shutter / Pro 2PM
If you would like to add remote control to roller shutters, blinds, gates, curtains, awnings, sliding doors, and lights, the above listed Shelly devices are a wonderful option to use. They are capable of controlling bi-directional AC motors, which will allow you to integrate devices such as roller shutters, curtains, and garage doors in home automation scenes. It also offers power metering so you can get real-time power usage data of connected devices.
Other Shelly Smart Home Devices
Besides offering smart switches and relays, Shelly has a wide selection of smart home sensors and accessories that can be integrated into your home automation network.
Shelly Wi-Fi Plus Smart Wall Plug
The Shelly Wi-Fi Plus Smart Wall Plug is easy to install - just plug into a wall outlet to instantly add wireless On/Off control to any plug-in appliance or lamp via Wi-Fi connectivity. With support for loads up to 1800W @ 15A, it’s powerful enough to handle devices like TVs, lamps, portable fans, space heaters, or even single-room AC units.
Shelly BLU Motion Bluetooth Motion Sensor
The Shelly BLU Motion Bluetooth Sensor detects and reports movements within 29 feet and has a built-in lux meter for reporting real time light levels, which can trigger automated scenes. Plus, it can also distinguish between animal and human shaped movement, reducing false alarms. Install it in your entryway so that when it detects movement, such as when you open your front door, it can trigger a Shelly relay switch to turn on lights.
The Shelly Wi-Fi Flood Sensor is the ideal solution to prevent costly flood damage that can occur from water leaks at home. As soon as it detects a water leak, it can immediately send you a notification on your smartphone. You can also integrate into a scene with the Shelly Plus 1, which can control the water manifold of your home, so that when a leak is detected it can trigger the Plus 1 to automatically shut off the water supply.
The Shelly Wi-Fi Plus Wall Dimmer is a great option for users who don't mind switching out their light switch to instantly add Wi-Fi On/Off/Dim/Brighten control to the connected light. Designed to work with dimmable bulbs (up to 400W incandescent or 150W LED/CFL at 120V), you can install it in your bedroom and add it to a morning wake-up scene, where the lights turn on gradually at a dimmed level to help ease you into the day.
Shelly Wi-Fi Gas Sensor (CNG and LPG)
The Shelly Wi-Fi Gas Sensor is available in two options - the CNG and LPG. The CNG is designed to detect Compress Natural Gas leaks that are highly flammable and lighter than air, while the LPG version detects Liquid Petroleum Gas leaks that are heavier than air and tend to accumulate near the ground. Both versions plug into a wall outlet and connect to your Wi-Fi network. Once a gas leak is detected, the unit emits audio and visual alerts as well as instantly sends notifications to your smartphone.
