  • Zipato Zipabox — Smart Home Controller Data Sheet

    September 08, 2026 4 min read

Full data sheet for the Zipato Zipabox Smart Home Controller, covering security, lighting, climate, energy, and automation capabilities plus technical specifications.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Data sheet for the Zipato Zipabox Smart Home Controller — a whole-home automation gateway supporting security, energy, comfort, and health applications through Z-Wave, ZigBee, KNX, ONVIF, UPnP, and DLNA.

    Overview

The Zipabox Gateway uses advanced technology to hide the complexity of home networking, delivering a simple smart home experience. It plugs into any outlet, automatically talks to all connected devices in the house, and connects them to the cloud so consumers can control everything using tablets, smartphones, computers, or TVs — at home or on the go.

The Zipabox Gateway communicates through a variety of standards including Z-Wave, ZigBee, KNX, ONVIF, UPnP, and DLNA. Its capabilities can be expanded through "snap-in" extension modules that add support for new interfaces, communication standards, and protocols. Once configured, the gateway works stand-alone but also features cloud support for advanced monitoring, messaging, and programming services. An intuitive graphical interface lets customers program their own home rules without any prior programming experience.

    Security & Safety

    • Up to 233 two-way wireless zones
    • Trigger alarms for: intruder (motion/door/window sensors), fire (smoke sensors), flood (water leakage sensors), gas (CO sensors), panic button, duress (forced disarm), and health care (missed action monitoring — e.g. no motion, door opening, or bed sensor activity during a set window)
    • Remote arm/disarm and status info via any smartphone
    • Vandal proof — 24/7 monitored by a central station which triggers an alarm on connection loss
    • Arm/disarm commands can be included in automation scenes and rules
    • Easy integration with existing alarm systems (DSC, Honeywell, etc.)
    • Easy online setup and configuration

    Zipato Rule Creator

Inspired by MIT's "Scratch" project, the Zipato Rule Creator is an intuitive graphical online programming tool — no coding skills required. Add or change automation rules anytime, from anywhere.

Events can be triggered by: conditions, status change of any device, absolute time, sunrise/sunset (with offset), email received, security panel events, matched infrared codes, or recurring second/minute intervals.

In response to triggers, any available action may be performed, such as: sending lighting control signals, sending email, running a script, triggering another event, or controlling media player / web camera functions.
