Quick installation guide for the Zipato Smart Energy Plug In Switch (regulatory model PH-PAN15), a Z-Wave Plus plug-in on/off switch with energy metering and overload protection.

    Overview

This is a security-enabled Z-Wave Plus plug-in switch. Devices displaying the Z-Wave Plus logo can be used with it regardless of manufacturer, and it can join other manufacturers' Z-Wave networks. It supports Security Command Class and functions identically whether included as a secure or non-secure device. The switch detects instantaneous wattage and overload current on connected loads — when overload is detected, the switch disables and locks out the On/Off button (LED flashes quickly) until it's unplugged and reconnected.

    Key Features

    • Overload protection
    • Higher output power (+5dBm vs. -2.5dBm on 300-series) for extended communication range
    • Auto-reports switch state on manual On/Off button press
    • Auto-reports wattage when consumption varies by more than 5%
    • Reports voltage, current, power factor, instant wattage, and accumulated KWh consumption
    • Zero-crossing switch, Z-Wave 500-series chip

    Specifications

    Spec Value
    Protocol Z-Wave Plus
    Operating Voltage 100-240VAC/60Hz; 220-240VAC/50Hz
    Maximum Load 13A (Resistive load)
    Operating Temperature 0 ~ 40°C
    Humidity 85% RH max
    Range Minimum 40m indoor / 100m outdoor
    Measurement Error 3W / 5% (under 40W)
    Weight / Dimensions 66g; 45mm x 35mm x 65mm
Frequency (EU) 868.40 MHz, 869.85 MHz

    Installation & Operation

    1. Plug the switch into a wall outlet near the load to be controlled.
    2. Plug the load into the switch — the load must not exceed 13A (resistive load).
    3. Press the button or switch the load to the ON position.
    4. Manually turn the switch ON/OFF by pressing and releasing the On/Off button — LED illuminates when ON, off when OFF.

    LED Indication

    State LED Indication
Normal LED on when ON, off when OFF
No Node ID Flashes on/off every 2 seconds (not yet allocated a node ID)
Learning Flashes on/off every 0.5 seconds
Overload Flashes on/off every 0.2 seconds; clear by unplugging and reconnecting

    Adding/Removing from Z-Wave Network

    Function Procedure
Inclusion Put your Z-Wave controller into inclusion mode, then press the On/Off button 3 times within 2 seconds.
Exclusion Put your Z-Wave controller into exclusion mode, then press the On/Off button 3 times within 2 seconds.
Reset (use only if primary controller lost/inoperable) Within 1 second, press On/Off button again and hold for 5 seconds.

Auto Inclusion: When power is first applied, the switch's LED flashes on/off every 0.5s, indicating it has no node ID and has begun auto inclusion (a 2-minute timeout window). Auto inclusion doesn't require pressing the On/Off button.

    Association

The switch supports one association group (Grouping 1, max 1 node), reporting SWITCH_BINARY_REPORT, METER_REPORT, and ALARM_REPORT to the associated Z-Wave controller.

    Z-Wave Configuration Parameters (selected)

    • Parameter 1 — Watt Meter Report Period: 2 bytes, 0x01-0x7FFF, default 720 (5s intervals; 720 = 1 hour, max ~45 hours).
    • Parameter 2 — KWH Meter Report Period: 2 bytes, 0x01-0x7FFF, default 6 (10-min intervals; 6 = 1 hour, max ~227.55 days).
    • Parameter 3 — Threshold of Current for Load Caution: 2 bytes, 10-1300 (x0.01A), default 1300 (13A).
    • Parameter 4 — Threshold of KWh for Load Caution: 2 bytes, 1-10000 (1 KWh units), default 10000 KWh.
    • Parameter 5 — Restore Switch State Mode: 1 byte, 0-2 (0=Switch Off, 1=Last Switch State [default], 2=Switch On) — behavior when AC power returns after an outage.
    • Parameter 6 — Manual On/Off Mode: 1 byte, 0-1, default 1 (enabled). When set to 0, manual On/Off button control is disabled.
    • Parameter 7 — LED Indication Mode: 1 byte, 1-2, default 1 (Show Switch State). Setting 2 = Show Night Mode (inverted LED behavior).
    • Parameter 8 — Auto Off Timer: 2 bytes, 0-0x7FFF (seconds), default 0 (disabled). Automatically switches off after the timer elapses once switched on.
    • Parameter 9 — RF Off Command Mode: 1 byte, 0-3, default 0 (Switch Off). Determines how the switch responds to a switch-off command: 0=Switch Off, 1=Ignore, 2=Switch Toggle, 3=Switch On.
    • Parameter 11 — Switch Status Report Mode: 1 byte, 0-1, default 1 (Enabled) — sends a Binary Switch report whenever status changes.

    Protection Command Class

Supports Protection Command Class v2 to prevent unintentional control (e.g., by a child) and to lock out RF control entirely if desired. In "Protection by sequence" mode, the On/Off button must be held longer than 1 second to change state.

    Troubleshooting

    Symptom Cause Recommendation
Switch not working, LED off Not plugged in properly, or switch failure Check power connections; do not open the module — send for repair if broken.
LED on but can't control the load's own switch Load has its own On/Off switch, or switch is protected Set the load's own switch to ON; unprotect the switch.
LED illuminating but detector can't control the switch Association not carried out, or RF interference Carry out association; wait and retry if there's frequency interference.
LED keeps flashing, can't control switch Overload occurred Remove the attached load or ensure max load doesn't exceed 12A.
