    User manual for the Yale Pro 2 Key-Free YRD634 / YRD654 Z-Wave Plus 500 Series smart deadbolt — covers installation, programming, and troubleshooting for this keypad-only (no physical key) electronic deadbolt.

    Overview

    The Yale Pro 2 Key-Free lock is a keyless keypad deadbolt with Z-Wave Plus connectivity via a removable Yale Smart Module, entry-code management, auto-lock, and passage mode. Important: key-free locks should only be installed on homes with more than one point of entry.

    Door Compatibility Check (before drilling)

    Use the tear-out Door Checker template to confirm your door and frame match the lock's requirements before making any adjustments:

    • Clearance: minimum 2" between top of door knob and center of deadbolt hole.
    • Door thickness: 1-3/8" (use teal/shortest screws), 1-3/8"–1-3/4" (black/medium screws), or 1-3/4"–2-1/4" (silver/longest screws).
    • Backset: 2-3/8" (use out-of-box latch setting) or 2-3/4" (adjust latch setting).
    • Face bore diameter: 1-1/2" or 2-1/8".
    • Edge bore / strike pocket: 1" diameter, minimum 1" strike pocket depth.

    If your door doesn't match any of these dimensions, it is not compatible with this lock as-is.

    Installation Steps

    Required tools: Phillips head screwdriver, tape measure, drill, pencil, wood mortise chisel, utility knife, level (plus the tear-out Door Checker and Marking Template pages).

    Caution: Failure to follow the installation guide precisely could damage the product, void the factory warranty, and could cause the lock to fail to provide access.

    1. Remove existing deadbolt (skip if new door construction) — keep the old deadbolt until the new lock is confirmed working.
    2. Check door measurements with the Door Checker; if existing holes are compatible, skip to installing the deadbolt latch. Do not drill until compatibility is confirmed.
    3. Make or adjust holes (if needed) using the Marking Template: select face bore diameter and door thickness/backset outlines, tape the template to the door, drill and chisel per the markings, and chisel/drill the strike pocket on the frame to a minimum 1" depth.
    4. Install the deadbolt latch into the door edge bore.
    5. Install the exterior keypad through the face bore, aligning with the deadbolt.
    6. Install the mounting plate on the interior side.
    7. Attach the wire cable from the exterior keypad to the interior lock body.
    8. Install the interior lock onto the mounting plate.
    9. Test the thumbturn for smooth operation before finishing (smooth deadbolt latch operation extends battery life).
    10. Install the Yale Smart Module into its slot at the top of the lock body. Batteries must NOT be installed when inserting or removing the Smart Module.
    11. Install batteries and replace the cover: ensure the deadbolt is unlocked first, place the battery ribbon behind the batteries for easy future removal, install 4 AA batteries, then replace the cover.

    Using Your Lock

    Exterior Keypad

    • Lock: press the lock button.
    • Unlock: press the unlock button, enter your entry code, press submit.

    Interior Lock Controls

    1. Wake / One-Touch Locking button
    2. Warnings / Menu
    3. Submit Entry Code
    4. 9-Volt Battery Backup contacts (for use when the AA batteries are fully drained)
    5. Thumbturn
    6. Passage Button
    7. Interior LED Indicator

    Configuring Your Lock

    1. Press the small black button on the interior of the lock until "1" and the checkmark light up on the keypad.
    2. Press "1" then Check to enter the settings menu; enter your 4–8 digit programming code, then press Check again.
    3. Choose the setting to change by entering the corresponding digit:

    1 — Programming Code Change the programming code Enter a new 4–8 digit code
    2 — User Codes 1 = Create; 3 = Remove Enter a 4–8 digit user code (enter 00 to remove all codes)
    3 — Advanced Settings 1 = Auto Relock; 2 = Inside LED; 3 = One Touch Locking; 5 = Handing the lock Auto Relock: 1–180 seconds or off; LED/Locking: on/off
    4 — Sound Settings Turn on / off —
    6 — All Code Lock Out Turn on / off —
    7 — Z-Wave Enroll / Unenroll —
    8 — Bluetooth Advertising Turn on —

    LED Alerts

    Exterior Keypad

    • Gear flashes amber → Low battery level 1
    • Gear flashes red → Low battery level 2
    • Gear flashes red then stays red → Low battery level 3
    • Checkmark flashes → Pairing success
    • Any key, then gear flashes red → Jammed lock
    • Gear flashes white → Pairing in progress
    • Gear flashes red during pairing → Pairing failure

    Interior Lock

    • LED flashes blue → Low battery levels 1–3
    • LED flashes red → Locked state
    • LED flashes green → Unlocked state
    • LED turns green for 3 seconds → Pairing success
    • LED turns red for 3 seconds → Pairing failure
    • LED intermittently flashes yellow → Passage Mode is on

    Resetting to Factory Defaults

    1. Remove one battery.
    2. Insert the reset pin into the reset hole.
    3. Press and hold the reset pin.
    4. While holding the pin, reinsert the battery.
    5. Keep holding the pin for 5 more seconds, then remove it.

    Features

    • Entry Codes: up to 500 codes can be created/deleted from the lock or a Z-Wave partner app.
    • Auto-Lock: locks the door automatically on a timer from 30 seconds up to 30 minutes.
    • Passage Mode: disables Auto-Lock for extended periods — press and hold the Passage button until you hear a chime to enable; lock the door or press-hold again to disable.

    Troubleshooting

    Symptom Fix
    Lock does not respond Press Yale logo to activate keypad; check batteries are correctly installed/oriented; check keypad wire is fully connected and not pinched.
    Lock is on briefly then no reaction / lights dim Batteries low on power — replace.
    Chimes acceptance but door won't open Check for foreign objects between door and frame; check wire connection to interior lock.
    Allows access but won't auto-unlock Check if Auto-Lock is enabled; disable to lock manually instead.
    "Low Battery" response Replace all 4 AA batteries.
    Batteries completely drained Replace all 4 AA batteries. To operate temporarily, hold a 9V alkaline battery against the contacts at the bottom of the lock, wait a moment, press the logo to wake it, then enter your code while holding the battery in place.
    Entry code won't register Check low battery indicator; verify code is 4–8 digits and unique per user; enter the code within 5 seconds of waking the keypad.
    "Invalid Code" or times out Verify the code is valid and previously programmed; turn off vacation mode via the programming menu (requires programming code).
    "Wrong Number of Digits" Re-enter the correct code followed by the Check key.
    Deadbolt doesn't extend with keypad Lock was not handed properly — adjust the "Lock Handing" setting.
    Lock operates but makes no sound Turn on volume via the programming menu (requires programming code).

    Hardware Troubleshooting

    Symptom Fix
    Deadbolt grinds/won't extend via keypad, but thumbturn works smoothly Lock not handed properly — adjust "Lock Handing" setting.
    Deadbolt hits the strike plate Reposition strike plate to align with the deadbolt.
    Deadbolt not fully extending Increase the depth of the deadbolt strike pocket in the frame.
    Resistance/binding requiring pushing or pulling to align deadbolt/latch Adjust the knob/lever/handleset strike plate: remove it with a hand screwdriver, bend the tab toward the strike surface slightly, reinstall and retest. If insufficient, contact a locksmith for latch/deadbolt adjustment.
