Yale Pro™ SL Key-Free Keypad Deadbolt with Z-Wave Plus (YRD136) — Installation & Programming

Installation and programming instructions for the Yale Pro™ SL Key-Free Keypad Deadbolt with Z-Wave Plus (Model YRD136). Covers hardware installation, initial Master PIN setup, user code programming, PIN-code door unlocking, Z-Wave Plus network enrollment, and troubleshooting.

Before You Begin

• Hardware included: x3 #8-32 x 5/16" machine screws, x4 #7 wood & #8-32 machine x 20mm combination screws
• Interior mounting bolts (choose one set by door thickness): x2 Gold M6x36mm PPHMS (1-3/8"), x2 Black M6x44mm PPHMS (standard 1-3/4"-2"), or x2 Silver M6x55mm PPHMS (2-1/4")

Preparing Door and Keypad Escutcheon

If the bore hole is less than 2-1/8", the cup must be removed from the escutcheon (compress the two tabs while pulling) before installing the exterior keypad. There are two application types: standard 2-1/8" bore, or <2-1/8" bore (cup removed).

Installation Steps

1. Install latch & strike plate. Latch positions: 2-3/8" (default) or 2-3/4" (optional — rotate to adjust). Secure with 4 screws. The deadbolt must be in the retracted (unlocked) position with the UP arrow facing upward.
2. Install keypad escutcheon (outside of door). If the bore hole is under 2-1/8", remove the cup by gently compressing the two tabs while pulling. Ensure the cable is routed under the deadbolt.
3. Install interior mounting plate. Secure with 2 bolts — choose the correct bolt length/color per the door-thickness guide (Gold/Black/Silver as listed above).
4. Attach the cable assembly. Route the cable as shown in the manual to avoid interference with lock movement.
5. Install interior escutcheon. Secure with 3 screws. The thumbturn should be in the vertical position.
6. Test operation. The deadbolt should extend and retract smoothly — if not, return to Step 2. The bolt must be in the retracted (unlocked) position before installing AA batteries.
7. Initial programming (Master PIN): Press the gear key to wake the lock, press gear, press gear again, enter a 4-8 digit Master PIN code, press gear to complete. The lock will not operate until the gear is pressed and a Master PIN code is set. After entering the Master PIN, press any key to complete handing.
8. Install the cover to finish the installation.

Programming Instructions

The Master PIN Code must be created before any further programming. Max user codes = 250 (in network).

1. Changing the Master PIN Code

1. Press gear, enter Master PIN code, press gear
2. Press 1, press gear
3. Enter 4-8 digit new Master PIN code, press gear

2. Creating User PIN Codes

Master PIN code must be created first. Max user codes = 250 (in network).

1. Press gear, enter Master PIN code, press gear
2. Press 2, press gear
3. Press 1, press gear
4. Enter 4-8 digit PIN code, press gear

3. Unlocking the Door with a PIN Code

Press gear, enter PIN, press checkmark to unlock. (A PIN Code Management chart in the printed manual lets you record up to 250 user names/codes — duplicate the chart if needed.)

Resetting to Factory Default

Resetting deletes all user codes (including the Master PIN) and restores all programming to factory defaults.

1. Remove the battery cover and batteries.
2. While pressing the reset button (minimum 3 seconds), reinstall the batteries, then release the reset button.
3. Replace the battery cover.

After a reset, creating the Master Code is the only option available and must be done before any other programming. After setting the Master Code, press any key to complete handing.

Enrolling in a Z-Wave Plus Network

Put your network controller into enrollment or exclusion mode first. Then enroll or remove the lock by pressing the wireless button.

• To enroll: remove battery cover, press and hold the button until the unit beeps twice, release — network joining begins automatically, replace battery cover.
• To remove: remove battery cover, press and hold the button until the unit beeps five times, release — network removal begins automatically, replace battery cover. Use this procedure only when the network's primary controller is missing or otherwise inoperable.

Key Definitions

• All Code Lockout Mode: Master-enabled mode restricting all non-Master PIN access; the lock rapidly beeps 5 times if a code is attempted while enabled.
• Audio Mode: Disable (3) shuts off the code-confirmation tone for quiet areas; set via Master code programming.
• Automatic Re-lock Time: Optional — when ON, the lock automatically re-locks 30 seconds after a successful unlock.
• Low Battery: Indicator flashes RED. If power is fully lost, apply a 9V battery (either direction) to the terminals below the keypad for backup power, wake the lock, and enter your PIN to unlock.
• Master PIN Code: Used for programming and feature settings; must be created before any other programming. Also operates (locks/unlocks) the door.
• Network Setting: Available via the wireless button on the interior escutcheon; connects the lock to a network controller.
• One Touch Locking: Activating the keypad extends the latch when retracted (during re-lock window or when auto re-lock is disabled).
• Shutdown Time: Unit shuts down (flashing keypad) for 60 seconds after the wrong-code entry limit is met.
• Tamper Alert: Audible alarm if someone attempts to forcibly remove the outside lock from the door.
• User PIN Code: Operates the lock; maximum 250 user codes in network.
• Wrong Code Entry Limit: After 5 unsuccessful attempts, the unit shuts down for 60 seconds.

Feature Programming Through Menu Mode (Master PIN Required)

1. Wake the lock by pressing the gear key.
2. Enter the 4-8 digit Master PIN code, followed by gear.
3. Enter the digit for the function to perform, followed by gear.

Default settings shown in bold:

• Master PIN Code Setting
• User PIN Code Registration: Register / Delete
• Advanced Lock Settings: Automatic Re-lock (Disable / 30 sec / 60 sec / 2 min / 3 min); One Touch Locking (Enable / Disable); Handing the Lock (performs automatic handing)
• Audio Mode: Enable / Disable (choose Disable for quiet areas)
• All Code Lockout Mode: Enable / Disable

Programming Troubleshooting

If the keypad flashes three times and the code doesn't register, press each keypad key to confirm it responds when pressed, and re-enter the code.

Important Safety Note

While Yale has included several features to prevent lockout (9-volt battery jumper, low battery warnings), a lockout situation is still possible. Because this product does not have a mechanical key override, Yale recommends using it in an environment with additional entry points into the dwelling.
