    Programming instructions for the Napco GEM-P800 security control panel (WI851A) — the dealer programming reference for zones, timers, features, report codes, and wireless devices. Intended for use alongside the GEM-P800 Installation Manual (WI850).

    Overview

    These programming instructions cover the Dealer Program Mode keypad procedures for the GEM-P800 control panel: entering/exiting Dealer Mode, LED-type and Direct-Entry-type programming blocks, hexadecimal data entry, defaulting the panel, and the full reference of zone features, system timers, report codes, and wireless transmitter/keyfob/smoke-detector programming.

    Entering & Exiting Dealer Program Mode

    • Entering Dealer Program Mode is not permitted while the panel is Armed, Reporting, or the Bell Output is on. To enter anyway, power up the panel and enter Dealer Mode within the first 3 minutes (pressing the Set key clears the 3-minute timer).
    • Enter the Dealer Code (default 4-5-6-7) to enter or exit Dealer Program Mode.
    • After 15 minutes of keypad inactivity in Dealer Mode, the keypad emits a steady tone — enter the Dealer Code to exit, or press Set to return to Dealer Program mode.

    LED Status Indicators in Dealer Mode

    • ARMED ON / STATUS OFF / TROUBLE FLASHING: panel is in Dealer Program Mode, ready for a programming block number.
    • ARMED FLASHING / STATUS FLASHING / TROUBLE FLASHING: panel is ready to exit Dealer Program Mode (enter Dealer Code).

    Keypad Key Functions in Dealer Program Mode

    • Set key: press before entering a Programming Block number.
    • Scroll key: scroll through data entered in Programming Blocks.
    • Blank key: disable all features within an LED-type Programming Block, or blank digits in a Direct-Entry block.

    Hexadecimal Data Entry

    Enter A–F digits using the numeric key plus a modifier key combination as documented in the manual (e.g., A = key 1 + modifier, through F = key 6 + modifier).

    Types of Programming Blocks

    LED Programming Block

    Press the key corresponding to a feature to turn its LED ON (enabled); press again to turn OFF (disabled). Press the Blank key to disable all features in the block at once.

    Example: To program Zones 2 and 3 as Follower Zones (Block 02 Exit/Entry Follower): enter Block 02, press the key for Zone 2, then the key for Zone 3 — both LEDs light to confirm.

    Direct Entry Programming Block

    Enter data directly, digit by digit. Use the Blank key to clear digits.

    Example 1: Program a 60-second Exit Delay (Block 10): enter Block 10, then enter "060".

    Example 2 (hexadecimal): Program a Dialing Prefix of "9E" (Block 44): enter Block 44, then "9" followed by the hex entry for "E".

    Viewing Data in Programming Blocks

    Enter the Programming Block number to display the first digit, then press Scroll to view subsequent digits. Data is shown in a binary LED pattern per digit value (0–F). Note: in Subscriber ID Numbers, Phone Numbers, Pager leading/trailing digits, and Report Codes, a value of "0" displays as "A".

    Defaulting the Panel

    1. Remove power from the panel.
    2. Remove all wiring from terminal 15 (PGM) and terminal 3.
    3. Connect terminal 15 (PGM) to terminal 3.
    4. Apply power to the panel.
    5. After a few seconds, the ARMED, READY, and SYSTEM TROUBLE LEDs will flash.
    6. The keypad beeps 3 times, indicating default values have been loaded.
    7. Remove the jumper wire between terminal 15 (PGM) and terminal 3.
    8. Re-install the original wiring for terminals 15 (PGM) and 3.

    Note: Dealer Options 1 [96] and Dealer Options 2 [97] are NOT reset by a default. If Dealer Code Lockout is programmed, the panel will not default the Dealer Code. The Event Log is erased when the panel is defaulted.

    UL Note: Programming options [05], [06], [23-2], [26-3], and [26-4] are not permitted for UL installations.

    Report Codes Reference (Blocks 60–68)

    • 60 — Zone Report Codes: per-zone alarm codes (default "3" per zone; second digit is the reporting zone number, e.g. zone 5 default reports as "35").
    • 61 — Point ID Report Codes: maps report code digits to event types — 1=Fire, 2=Panic, 3=Burglary, 4=Holdup, 5=General Alarm, 7=Gas Alarm, 8=Heat Alarm, A=Auxiliary, B=24 Hour Alarm.
    • 62 — Zone Codes: Zone 1–8 Restore Code (default E) and Trouble Code (default F).
    • 63 — System Report Codes: Keypad Fire, Keypad AUX, Keypad Panic, Test Timer, AC Fail, Low Battery, Trouble, Fire — each with dealer-assignable code pairs.
    • 64 — System Restore Code: default E.
    • 65 — Opening and Closing Code: Closing Code default C, Opening Code default B.
    • 66 — Ambush Report Code: default 22.

    Wireless Device Programming (Blocks 71–88)

    Transmitters (Zones 1–8, Blocks 71–78)

    Enter the RF ID# from the transmitter/keyfob/smoke detector label (format XXXXXX:X), plus the point number to associate with the zone (enter 1 for a single-point GEM-TRANS2, or for GEM-GB/GEM-DT/GEM-PIR devices).

    Example: Map point 1 of a window/door transmitter with RF ID# 0012B0:0 to Zone 3 (Block 73): enter Dealer Mode, enter Block 73, then enter "0012B0:01". If the RF ID# is entered incorrectly, the keypad emits a 1-second error tone — repeat entry.

    Keyfobs (Blocks 81–84)

    Enter RF ID# plus AUX1/AUX2 button assignments: 1=Panic, 2=AUX, 3=Bell ON, 4=PGM, 5=Instant, 6=Access on PGM, 7=Full Set System, 8=Interior.

    Smoke Detectors (Blocks 85–88)

    Enter RF ID# for up to 4 wireless smoke detectors.

    Downloading & Dealer Programming (Blocks 90–98)

    • 90 — Callback Telephone Number
    • 91 — Ring Count: default 09, max entry 15.
    • 92 — Downloading Features: Ring Method (default ON), Answering Machine Override, Function 6 Download, Signal Strength Test Mode.
    • 93 — Auto Download ID Number
    • 94 — Dealer Code: default 4-5-6-7.
    • 95 — User 1 Code: default 1-2-3-4.
    • 96 — Dealer Options 1: Dealer Code Lockout (default OFF), User 1 Code Lockout (default ON), UL Household Fire, Fire Trouble on Fire LED.
    • 97 — Dealer Options 2: International Dialing Protocol, Invert Bell Output, System Trouble Auto Reset, User 1 Code-Program only.
    • 98 — Number of Re-Dials: default 9.

    Note: Dealer Options 1 [96] and 2 [97] are not reset by a panel default.

    Wiring & Power

    Refer to Installation Instructions (WI850) for the full GEM-P800 wiring diagram. For a residential burglary configuration with 4-hour standby: combined standby load = 500 mA, bell output = 2.0 amp. This equipment should be installed per Chapter 2 of the National Fire Alarm Code, ANSI/NFPA 72-1993 (National Fire Protection Association, Batterymarch Park, Quincy MA).
