Retrofitting or modifying this product may impact fire rating, safety features, and warranty. Consult code specifications to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and ratings before installation.

    Before You Begin

    • Tools needed: #3 and #2 Phillips screwdrivers, a 3/4" and 1/2" drill bit set.
    • Determine door handing before starting: face the door swinging open toward you. If it swings open to the right, it's a right-hand-reverse door; if it swings open to the left, it's a left-hand-reverse door.
    • Optional accessories to plan for: Yale Accentra network module, Privacy Door Position Switch (DPS), Fire Guard template.

    Installation Overview

    1. Prepare the door — if installing the optional DPS privacy switch, drill a 3/8" hole through a wood door (3/4" for metal doors — the supplied plastic collar MUST be installed on metal doors for the DPS to function). Drill halfway through from each side to prevent splitting.
    2. Install the cylinder — thread it in using the key, turning counter-clockwise to secure. Pull the key out to the first blade cut for best operation. If using a cylinder other than 1-1/8", a correctly sized collar is required. Test by turning the key counter-clockwise; if it binds, thread the cylinder further into the escutcheon.
    3. Change hand of trim if necessary — there's a spring inside the spindle; keep it for reassembly. Tighten the nut, then loosen just enough that the spindle tab aligns with the top of the hole. The set screw should be on the same side as the lever arm.
    4. Install the outside trim assembly — use 2 hinge-side screws to temporarily hold the trim in place until the exit device is installed; all 4 screws (#10-32 x 1" OHPMS) must be used for proper installation, but do not fully tighten until after exit device installation.
    5. Install the exit device and complete remaining mechanical assembly steps per the included hardware diagrams.
    6. Install the exit device cover to finish. Before final testing, create the Master PIN code (see Programming Instructions) and use it to test the lock.

    Programming Instructions

    Activating the Lock

    • Push Button models: press any key to activate.
    • Touchscreen models: press the Yale logo, or touch the keypad with your whole hand, then press the check key.

    1. Creating the Master PIN Code (required before any other programming)

    1. Activate the lock, then press the gear key to enter "Register Master Code" mode.
    2. Enter a 4–8 digit Master PIN code, then press the check key.
    3. The lock will announce "Registered. Completed."

Note: If a Yale Accentra Key module is installed, physical/mobile credentials are used instead — User PIN code creation and use are disabled, and the Master PIN code is used only for programming (it will not unlock the door).

    2. Creating User PIN Codes (Master PIN must exist first)

    1. Activate the lock, enter the Master PIN code, press the gear key — lock responds "Menu Mode, enter number."
    2. Press the gear key again to reach "Register user code," then press 1 to register a code.
    3. Enter a 4–8 digit PIN code, press the check key. Lock confirms "Registered."
    4. To add more codes, repeat; to end programming, press the gear key until "Completed" is announced.

    3. Locking & Unlocking with a Registered PIN

Activate the lock, enter the PIN code, press the check key.

    4. Privacy Button (requires DPS installed and Privacy feature enabled)

When the door is already in a locked state (door closed), press the Privacy button once to activate Privacy Mode. If the door is not locked, press twice — the first press locks the door, the second activates Privacy Mode.

Menu Mode Feature Programming (via Master PIN)

    1. Activate the lock.
    2. Enter the Master PIN code, then press the check key. Lock responds "Menu mode, enter number."
    3. Enter the digit for the desired function, follow the voice prompts.
    4. Press the check key to complete and end the programming session.

Resetting the Lock to Factory Default

    1. Remove the battery cover with the supplied hex wrench.
    2. Remove the three (3) screws from inside the lock to release it from the bracket plate.
    3. Remove the Yale Accentra module if installed.
    4. Locate the reset button on the back of the inside lock (cables can stay connected).
    5. Press and hold the reset button for 3 seconds.
    6. While still holding the reset button, temporarily remove one AA battery, then reinstall it.
    7. Release the reset button and wait ~15 seconds — the speaker will announce "Welcome to Yale."
    8. Reinstall the inside lock. If using a Yale Accentra module, remove batteries, insert the module, then reinstall batteries.

Warning: A factory reset deletes all user codes including the Master PIN and resets all programming to defaults. Master PIN creation is the only available option afterward and must be completed before any further programming.

    Key Definitions

    • All Code Lockout Mode: restricts all non-Master PIN access; touchscreen shows a red locked padlock.
    • Automatic Re-lock Time: re-locks 3 seconds after a successful unlock by default (adjustable).
    • Eco Mode: low-power mode that extends battery life.
    • Low Battery: flashing red battery icon (touchscreen) or flashing red Yale logo (push-button). Use a 9V battery applied to the terminals (either polarity) for emergency backup power.
    • Passage PIN Code: unlocks and holds the door open/unlocked until entered again.
    • Shut Down Time: 60-second lockout after 5 wrong-code attempts.
    • Tamper Alert: audible alarm if forcible removal of the outside lock is attempted.
    • User PIN Code: up to 500 codes supported (25 max on the NTT620 model); disabled if a Yale Accentra Key module is installed.

    Programming Troubleshooting

    Symptom Suggested Action
Lock does not respond, no lights/chimes/latch movement Check battery polarity/installation, replace batteries, check cable connections inside lock, or apply 9V battery to the terminals for emergency power
Lock wakes but doesn't respond, lights dim Batteries low on power — replace
Chimes acceptance but door won't open Check for another locking device (deadbolt), check door gaps for obstructions, confirm motor cable is seated on the "MOTOR" PC board connector
Lock unlocks but won't auto re-lock Confirm Auto Re-lock is enabled, replace batteries, confirm Passage Mode is disabled
User/Passage PIN won't register Check code length (4-8 digits), check if already registered, check for installed Accentra module (disables User PINs), enter within 20 seconds, avoid check/gear keys within the PIN
Lock errors/times out entering a PIN Re-enter digits correctly, check if Master deleted the code, check code expiration, check for Accentra module, retry within 20 seconds
"Low Battery" displayed / Yale logo flashes red Replace all 4 AA alkaline batteries
Lock operates but doesn't chime Confirm Volume is set to Low or High (not Silent)
Won't enter Privacy Mode Confirm Privacy Mode is enabled by Master user; check door gap alignment

Hardware troubleshooting — door binding: confirm the door and frame are properly aligned and the door swings freely; check that hinges aren't loose or worn. Refer to the exit device installation instructions for additional hardware troubleshooting.
