    Full text manual (for reference)

Complete installation and programming instructions for the Yale Assure Lock Electronic Interconnected Push Button (YRC216) — covering door prep, mechanical installation, PIN code programming, and optional Z-Wave Plus / ZigBee / iM1 network module setup.

    Overview

The Yale Assure Lock YRC216 is an interconnected push-button electronic deadbolt/lever lock available in 4" or 5.5" touchscreen keypad sizes. It supports an optional Network Module (Z-Wave Plus, ZigBee, or iM1) for smart home integration. Retrofitting or modifying this product may impact fire rating, safety features, and warranty — always consult local code specifications to ensure compliance.

    Installation Overview

Full step-by-step installation instructions are also available via the free BILT app, which walks through the process visually. The printed instructions cover the following steps:

    1. Mark door reference lines and prepare the door (drill through-holes for the lock body and bolt, drilling halfway from each side to prevent splitting).
    2. Install the strike plates in the door frame.
    3. Determine the door handing (LH, LHR, RH, or RHR) from the secure side of the door.
    4. Change the handing of the lock if needed (4" Left Hand to Right Hand conversion shown as an example) — do not tamper with or loosen the E-clip assembly or the 6 screws under the cover.
    5. Install the deadbolt and latchbolt, then test their operation before proceeding.
    6. Attach the cable assembly, routing it as shown to avoid interference with lock movement; verify cables are securely connected. Two #6-32 x 1/2" pan-head screws must be used to qualify for UL listing.
    7. Install the interior lock body, matching orientation and adjusting the thumbturn slot orientation as needed before fastening to the back plate.
    8. Install the interior lever (should "snap" into place — pull to confirm it's secure).
    9. Test final latchbolt and deadbolt operation. If testing fails, return to the interior lock installation step and recheck the installation.
    10. Install the optional Network Module — never install it with batteries already in the unit, as this can cause damage.
    11. Install batteries and replace the cover. The bolt must be in the retracted (unlocked) position before installing batteries.

    Handing the Lock

After installing batteries and cover, or after a factory reset, you must first create a Master PIN code (see Programming Instructions below). Then:

    1. Enter the Master PIN code and press the menu key.
    2. Select Advanced Lock Settings.
    3. Select "Handing the Lock."
    4. Confirm — the lock will automatically cycle its motor to complete handing.

    Hardware Troubleshooting

    Symptom Suggested Action
Bolt will not extend, motor is grinding Enter Master PIN, select Advanced Lock Settings (Option 3), rehand the lock (Option 5), then test by locking via keypad.
Door is binding Check door/frame alignment and that the door swings freely; check hinges for looseness or wear.
Bolt will not deadlock Check clearance of the bolt within the strike-side jamb (deepen the pocket if needed); check bolt/strike alignment by extending and retracting the bolt with the door open.
Bolt does not extend/retract smoothly Recheck bolt/strike alignment, backset adjustments, door preparation (re-bore misaligned holes), keypad wire harness routing, and correct bolt orientation.
Keypad numerics are scrolling Remove the interior lock and verify the wire harness is routed properly.

    Replacing the Cylinder

    1. Remove keypad from door.
    2. Remove rubber gasket.
    3. Remove the two screws holding the plastic guide in place, then remove the guide.
    4. Remove the screw with washer holding the cylinder in place (visible after removing the plastic guide).
    5. Remove the cylinder housing by pulling the cylinder tailpiece away from the keypad.
    6. To install a new cylinder, reverse the steps above.

    Programming Instructions

Maximum User Codes: 250 with a Z-Wave Plus or ZigBee network module; 25 without a network module or with an iM1 module; 12 with Bluetooth.

    1. Creating the Master PIN Code

Required upon installation or after a factory reset — the lock cannot be programmed or used until this step is completed. Press the menu key, then the settings key, enter a 4–8 digit Master PIN code, and confirm.

    2. Creating User PIN Codes

The Master PIN code must be created first. Enter the Master PIN code, press the menu/enter keys, then enter a 4–8 digit User PIN code and confirm.

    3. Unlocking the Door with a PIN Code

Enter the PIN code and press "Unlock."

Resetting the Lock to Factory Default

Warning: resetting deletes all user codes, including the Master PIN, and restores all programming features to factory defaults.

    1. Remove the battery cover and batteries.
    2. Remove the interior lock to access the reset button hole.
    3. Re-insert 3 batteries and insert a small screwdriver into the reset hole, holding the button for 3 seconds.
    4. While still holding the reset button, insert the 4th battery and hold for an additional 3 seconds, then release.
    5. Re-install the interior lock onto the door.

For best results, the lock should remain installed on the door during a factory reset. Master PIN code creation is the only option available immediately after reset, and must be completed before any other programming.
