Complete step-by-step guide to the Yale Access App: setup, guest access, Auto-Unlock, Auto-Lock, Smart Alerts, and Yale hardware products.
Complete step-by-step guide to the Yale Access App — covering setup, guest access, Auto-Unlock/Auto-Lock, Smart Alerts, DualDoor Technology, and Yale Access hardware products (Unity Series, Connect Plus Bridge, Assure Series).
The Yale Access App controls your Yale products from a mobile device (iPhone or Android). Download it from the App Store or Google Play, then log in to or create a Yale Access account.
A Yale smart keypad can control the lock via PIN codes and share PIN access with guests. Adding a Yale Connect bridge enables remote lock/unlock from anywhere.
The Connect Plus bridge supports up to 16 Yale Access smart devices simultaneously, and enables smart home connectivity with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings.
DualDoor Technology simultaneously locks/unlocks both the Unity Entrance lock and Unity Security Screen Door lock for seamless entry/exit. Requires both locks paired to a Yale Connect Bridge; set up through the Security Screen Door Lock settings.
Note: If a contactless key tag or keypad is already set up on the Unity Entrance lock, you'll need to unpair it and re-register on the Security Screen Door lock (register the key tag to the screen door lock's owner). See the product user manual for full details on how DualDoor works.
The guest receives a text with a download link. On opening the app, they have three login options:
Guests have limited access by default. Upgrade them to Owner access for privileges like Auto-Lock/Auto-Unlock. If you have a Yale Smart Keypad, you can also issue guests a simple entry code.
Available on Unity Series Locks. Key tags can be shared with others and scheduled, then deleted via the app if lost.

Auto-Unlock relies on your phone's Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, all coordinated through the OS and the Yale Access App. The app has two states: Home Mode (when you're home, Auto-Unlock waits) and Away Mode (once you've traveled more than 200 meters from home). When you return within 200 meters, your phone starts looking for the lock; once within 5 meters and the app detects the Yale Smart Lock, the door Auto-Unlocks and the app returns to Home Mode.
To disable: repeat the steps and toggle Auto-Unlock off.
Auto-Lock locks the door automatically after a set time (up to 30 minutes). You must be an authorized owner and within Bluetooth range to activate it.
Note: To use Auto-Lock Timing (controlling when the door locks after closing), you need DoorSense™ installed. Without DoorSense, the door locks automatically as soon as it closes, when Auto-Lock is enabled. If the lock is on a door requiring the handle to be lifted to lock, Auto-Lock is not possible (risk of jamming).
To disable: repeat the steps and toggle Auto-Lock off (you must be within Bluetooth range).
DoorSense reports whether the door is open or closed, letting the lock auto-lock as soon as it detects the door has closed.
By default, Auto-Lock uses a timer: with DoorSense enabled, the timer won't engage while the door is Open; once it changes to Closed, the countdown starts and the door auto-locks when time expires. Selecting "Instant" instead guarantees the lock auto-locks the moment the door state changes from Open to Closed. When Instant mode is enabled, a "Re-Lock Timing" option appears — this re-locks the Smart Lock if it's unlocked but the door never opens, after the specified time.
Alerts you when your door has been left open for a set amount of time. Requires the Smart Door Lock with DoorSense and the Yale Wi-Fi Connect Bridge.
Set Door Ajar Timing:
Set the Smart Alert to receive the notification:
Only lock Owners can invite Guests, and can customize their access level/notifications.
| Capability | Owner | Guest |
|---|---|---|
| Lock/unlock via app | Yes | Yes* |
| Lock/unlock via Personal Entry Code (SmartKeypad) | Yes | Yes |
| Use Auto-Unlock | Yes | No |
| Invite/remove owners or guests | Yes | No |
| Control all lock settings | Yes | No |
| View activity feed / guest list | Yes | No |
*Requires cellular data/internet connection so servers can verify the guest's authorized timeframe.
Reverse the process anytime to change an Owner back to Guest.
Smart Alerts notify you about lock activity — manual lock events, user-specific lock operations, door-ajar notifications, and Auto-Lock notifications. For the best experience, pair your Smart Lock with the Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge — without it, alerts mostly require a Bluetooth connection to the lock.
Create: Open the app → Lock Settings → Smart Alerts → "Create a smart alert" (iOS: blue button; Android: yellow "+") → "Choose an event."
Modify/Delete: Tap any notification on the Smart Alerts page, then use the delete button and confirm.
Includes the Unity Entrance Lock and Unity Security Screen Door Lock, for seamless home entry via the Yale Access App. With a Yale Connect Plus Wi-Fi Bridge, the series supports DualDoor™ Technology — a single command operates both the screen door and main entrance door in sequence.
DualDoor setup requirements: Yale Unity Security Screen Door Lock, Yale Unity Entrance Lock, and either a Yale Connect Plus Wi-Fi bridge or 2x Yale Connect Bridges, all set up under one Home. Then: select House settings → Security Screen Door Lock settings → Utilities → Linked Lock → follow setup steps.
Meets Australian lock standards AS4145.2:2008, SL6 and D7. Works with a 3-point locking kit; auxiliary bolts thrown via a lever lift for added security.
Locking modes: Unlocked (both sides unlocked), Locked (both sides locked, activated via app/key tag/keypad), Secured/Deadlocking (both sides locked and internal electronic snib disabled — disables internal and external handles; activate via app or key tag).
Activating auxiliary bolts from outside: ensure the lock is unlocked so the external lever operates, close the door, lift the lever (bolts throw), then lock the door. From inside, the internal lever remains active even when locked.
Note: A Yale Smart Keypad can only pair to one lock at a time — moving it from the Entrance lock to the Screen door lock requires re-pairing (existing PIN codes won't transfer, due to privacy requirements).
Meets Australian standards AS4145.2:2008, SL8 and D8, plus BAL-40 Bush Fire level. Patented digital dead-locking technology locks both internal and external handles.
Locking modes: Unlocked, Locked (locked from outside, free egress from inside), Secured (locked from both sides, disabling internal/external handles).
Important: For safety, do NOT engage Secure Mode on the inside handle while the building is occupied.
Activating Secure Mode via app: place the lock in locked mode (red circle), hold the circle down until it pulses and fills, then release — a red "Closed | Secured" square appears.
Via Contactless Key Tag: with the door closed, hold the tag over the reader for 5 seconds (lock beeps 3x, LED flashes red).
Deactivating Secure Mode: tap the Secured square in-app to unlock immediately, or hold the key tag over the reader.
Internal Electronic Snib: toggles between locked/unlocked status (not secure mode). Press to unlock before going out briefly; press again to lock after returning and closing the door (if Auto-Lock isn't enabled). Disabled while the lock is in Secure Mode.
Supports up to 16 Yale Access smart devices. Integrates with home automation (e.g. trigger lights or music on unlock) and works with Google, Samsung, and Alexa voice assistants.
Placement: install within 9 meters of your Yale Access smart device (4.5 meters recommended for optimal performance). Avoid steel frames, windows, and internal walls made of brick, stone, or concrete between the bridge and the lock.
With the Yale Access Kit, provides seamless keyless entry via a backlit touch-screen keypad and shareable PIN codes.
Configuring lock features (One Touch Locking, Inside Indicator Light, Privacy settings): enter the Master PIN, then the gear symbol → Select "3, Advanced Lock Settings" → gear symbol → select 2 (Inside Indicator Light), 3 (One Touch Locking), or 4 (Privacy Button) → select 1 to Enable or 3 to Disable → gear symbol.
Yes — download the Yale Access App on the new device (if not already installed).
Note: The app is optimized for iOS/Android mobile devices only — it won't work on a desktop, since Yale uses a device token for authorization.
The lock's exterior looks and works the same as a standard lock — you can still use the original physical key if your phone is lost, stolen, or dies.
To log out of all devices / disable your lost phone's access (requires internet + your Yale Access email account):
To regain access: use a physical key if you have one. Otherwise, download the Yale Access App on a substitute smartphone and log into your account — you can operate the lock right away. Once you get a permanent replacement phone, just download the app and sign in again; all your Yale devices remain set up in your account (no re-setup needed).
