ABB-Welcome M22344W — Basic Hands-Free Indoor Station User Manual

Overview

The ABB-Welcome M22344W (M2231x-x family) is a 4.3" color-touchscreen indoor station for the ABB-Welcome door communication system. It's an integral part of the ABB-Welcome system and operates exclusively with components from this system. The device must only be installed in dry indoor rooms, and must be installed only by an authorized electrician.

⚠ Safety Warnings

• Electric voltage — risk of death and fire from 100–240V supply. Work on the 100–240V supply system may only be performed by authorized electricians. Disconnect mains power prior to installation and/or disassembly.
• Low-voltage and 100–240V cables must not be installed together in a flush-mounted socket — a short-circuit could put a 100–240V load on the low-voltage line.
• Only install if you have the necessary electrical engineering knowledge and experience. Apply the "five safety rules" (DIN VDE 0105, EN 50110): disconnect from power; secure against reconnection; ensure there is no voltage; connect to earth; cover or barricade adjacent live parts. Use suitable personal protective clothing and only suitable tools/measuring devices.
• Screen care: never use hard or sharp objects on the touch screen — use your finger or a plastic stylus. Clean with a soft cloth and commercially available glass cleaner; never use abrasive cleaning agents.

Control Elements

During Calls

• Press the communication button to accept an incoming call; press again to end it.
• Press the unlock button to open the door the call is from.
• Press the surveillance button to view the outdoor station's analog camera (if present); hold to take a snapshot.
• Press the mute button to mute the incoming ringtone, or mute the microphone during conversation.
• Press the programmable button to activate its assigned function (e.g. release 2nd lock, control switch actuator).
• Press the fullscreen toggle to enable/disable fullscreen video; hold it to enter the brightness/volume settings menu.
• The screen shows time remaining on the connection and the outdoor station number.

Display & Volume Settings (During a Call)

Hold the fullscreen/settings control for 3 seconds during a call to enter display & volume settings: navigate with up/down/confirm/cancel buttons to adjust speech volume (adjustable only during conversation), saturation, and brightness.

Communication Menu

Press the communication button in standby to enter the communication menu:

• Intercom call — touch an existing call list entry to make an intercom call (set up intercom lists first under System Settings → Intercom Settings; up to 32 lists).
• Call to guard unit — call the guard unit directly.
• Broadcast — enable the broadcast function.
• Switch actuator — activate an existing actuator list entry to enable a connected lock or light (set up actuator lists first under System Settings → Switch Actuator; up to 10 lists).

System Settings Menu

Press the system setting button to access:

1. Intercom settings — set intercom lists among/within apartments (up to 32 lists)
2. Switch actuator — set actuator lists (up to 10 lists)
3. Program button — assign functions to programmable buttons (e.g. release 2nd-lock, call guard unit)
4. Auto unlock — set automatic unlock time ranges (two configurable time windows)
5. Set OS password — set a custom door-open password (3–8 digits) for use with an outdoor station keypad
6. Ringtone — set bell sound for the default outdoor station, other outdoor stations, apartment door, or other events (e.g. guard call)
7. Volume — set ringtone volume, enable/disable touch feedback tone, set ringtone as fixed or cycled
8. Date and time — set date, time, and enable/disable daylight saving time
9. Other settings — auto full screen, door status check, auto-snapshot, missed call notification
10. History — view up to 100 recorded events (received/missed calls); view details or delete entries
11. Language — set the local display language
12. Information — device info screen
13. Reset factory default — Reset all settings restores defaults without deleting programmed data/history (intercom/actuator lists); Clear all data deletes all programmed data, history, and restores full factory defaults.

Camera List Settings

Displays the status of the camera list; view cameras from the Camera interface; enable/disable individual cameras; name each camera (1–14 characters). Only available when a Camera interface (mode=4) is associated with the indoor station.

Technical Data

Mounting / Installation

• Terminate all branches of the wiring system via a connected bus device (indoor station, outdoor station, system device).
• Do not install the system controller next to the bell transformer or other power supplies (avoid interference).
• Do not install system bus wires together with 100–240V wires. Do not use common cables for door opener wires and system bus wires. Avoid bridges between different cable types.
• Use only two wires for the system bus in a four-core or multi-core cable. Never install incoming/outgoing bus, or internal/external bus, in the same cable when looping.
• Open the housing by pulling the clamp at the bottom of the device.
• Mount via the bottom screw holes per the manual's installation dimension diagram, or fix to an existing flush-mounted box (compatible box dimensions shown in the manual).

Address & Configuration Switches (rear of unit)

• Station selector switch — sets the address of the default outdoor station.
• X10/X1 selector switches — set the tens/units digits of the indoor station address; X200/X100 dip-switches set the hundreds digit.
• Master/Slave function — only one indoor station per apartment should be set to "Master" (M/S on); all others in the same apartment must be "Slave" (M/S off).
• Terminal resistor — in video or mixed audio/video installations, set to "RC on" on the last device of the line.
• Bus connections — a/b = bus connection, bell symbol = door bell connection, DC/GND = additional power supply.
• Induction loop connector — for hearing-aid compatibility (where equipped).

Environmental Disposal

Used electric and electronic devices must not be disposed of with domestic waste — they contain valuable raw materials that can be recycled. Dispose of at an appropriate collecting depot. ABB products comply with EU-Directive 2002/96/EG (WEEE), 2002/95/EG (RoHS), and the EU-REACH ordinance (EG No. 1907/2006).
