X10 PRO RF Handheld Remote (PHR03) — Product Info & Installation

Product info sheet for the X10 PRO RF Handheld Remote PHR03 — a battery-powered RF remote paired with the PAT01 base transceiver for wireless control of up to 16 X10 modules.

Overview

The PHR03 handheld remote works with the PAT01 RF Base Transceiver to expand X10 remote control range around the house. Plug the PAT01 into any nearby outlet and get wireless control of up to 16 devices (or groups of devices) connected to X10 receiver modules. The remote includes Dim/Bright buttons for dimmable X10 receiver modules. Because it uses RF rather than IR, no line-of-sight is required — range is up to 100 ft under ideal conditions between the remote and the PAT01 transceiver.

The PAT01 transceiver also has its own built-in outlet (non-dimming).

Requirements

• PHR03 remote: 4 AAA batteries (sold separately)
• PAT01 RF Base Transceiver (sold separately)

Optional / Supplementary Devices

PLW01 standard incandescent wall switch module, PLM01 plug-in lamp module, PAM01/02 plug-in 2- and 3-pin appliance modules.

X10 Protocol

• House Code Dial: Letters A–P, default "A"
• Unit Number Dial: Numbers 1–16, default "1"
• Each receiver module is set to a unique (or shared) unit number
• Controllers must match the House Code of the receivers they control

Electrical / Split-Phase Note

Most residential homes are wired split-phase, and the two 120V phases aren't directly connected. If an X10 receiver doesn't respond after installation, verify the receiver's breaker is on the same phase as the controller — or move the breaker, or install a phase coupler to improve powerline communication (see x10pro.com Technical Support).

Installation

1. Install 4 AAA batteries in the remote, taking care to align polarity.
2. Rotate the House Code dial on the remote's face to the letter matching your installed modules.
3. Set the PHR03's UNIT slide switch to 1–8 to operate units 1–8, or 9–16 to operate units 9–16.
4. Plug in the PAT01 transceiver and set its House Code dial to match the remote's House Code.
5. Set the transceiver's UNIT slide switch to "1" to control its built-in outlet via an X10 "A1" command, or "9" for an "A9" command. This switch does not affect the remote's control of all 16 unit numbers.

Notes

• To print new PHR03 channel labels, run ActiveHome software: File → Print → Type of Report → Controller Labels (download ActiveHome at x10pro.com Tech Support).
• RF signals can be attenuated by electrical fields, metal doors/frames, and appliances. Relocating the PAT01 transceiver can improve reception.
