X10 WD13A Water Level Detector — Installation Instructions

Installation instructions for the X10 WD13A Water Level Detector — a battery-powered water sensor that works standalone or registers as a zone on an X10 SC1200 Security Console.

Overview

The WD13A is a battery-powered water level detector with a wired sensor pad. It can be used standalone (sounds a local beeper when the pad contacts water) or registered as a wireless zone on an X10 SC1200 Security Console system, which also sounds the console's siren when tripped. The console does not need to be armed for the Water Level Detector to trip it.

Initializing the Detector

1. Pry the two halves of the unit apart using a coin and install two AAA alkaline batteries, observing polarity.
2. Press and hold the button inside the unit for 3–4 seconds, then release. This initializes the unit and picks a random security code used when registering it with the Security Console.
3. Attach the water sensor pad to the two screw terminals.

Registering with the SC1200 Security Console

1. Press either Menu up/down button (under the console's lid, right of the display). The display shows "ENTER PIN."
2. Enter the default PIN (0000) or your custom PIN. This clears the display and shows "****".
3. You'll land at the first menu level: "1. INSTALL". Press OK.
4. The display shows "1. INSTALL / ZONE". Press and hold the button inside the Water Level Detector — the console acknowledges registration with a chime and displays "RMOT 1 SET" (the detector itself also beeps for ~15 seconds).
5. Repeat for additional detectors — the display increments to "RMOT 2 SET," etc.
6. Press Clear to exit the menus; confirm with 1 (YES) to return to the Home Control screen, or 2 (NO) to remain in the INSTALL menu.

Using as a Stand-Alone Detector (no Security Console)

Pry the two halves apart with a coin, install two AAA alkaline batteries observing polarity, and it's ready to use — it beeps whenever the sensor pad is immersed in water, and stops beeping after ~15 seconds.

Installing the Detector Body & Sensor Pad

• Pry off the cover with a coin and mount the detector body to the wall using the provided screws, then replace the cover. Mount it as high above the floor as the wire to the sensor pad allows.
• Place the sensor pad on the floor, or attach it to a wall (using double-sided tape) at the height/level you want water to be detected.

Testing

Dip the sensor pad into a cup of water. The detector's beeper sounds and stops after ~15 seconds. If registered with a Security Console, its siren also sounds (arming is not required for this to trigger). Stop the siren with a keyfob remote, or disarm at the console by entering the PIN.

Battery Replacement

The detector beeps about once a minute when batteries are low. Batteries can be replaced with two fresh AAA alkaline batteries without needing to re-register the unit — but fresh batteries must be installed within 30 seconds of removing the old ones, or the stored security code will be lost and the unit will need to be reinitialized and re-registered.

System Context (X10 Supervised Security System)

The WD13A is one accessory in the broader X10 Supervised Security System, which includes a Security Console with an automatic dialer, plus battery-powered RF door/window sensors, motion detectors, water level detectors, and keyfob remotes — all using random digital security coding. A system can combine:

• Up to 16 wireless keyfob security remotes (arm/disarm, panic, and security-light control buttons)
• Up to 16 wireless water level detectors (combined total with keyfobs, e.g. 8 + 8)
• Up to 30 magnetic door/window sensors and PIR motion detectors combined (any mix up to 30 total)
• 2 additional hardwired zones (31 and 32)
• Optional X10 home automation modules (lamp/appliance modules, wired wall switches)
