X10 PLM01/PLM03 — Lamp Module Manual

Product manual for the X10 PLM01/PLM03 Lamp Modules — plug-in receivers that add remote X10 control to any standard incandescent lamp, up to 300 watts.

Overview

The X10 Lamp Module plugs into any standard 120V outlet and lets you remotely control whatever incandescent light is plugged into it (up to 300W). It's a receiver that responds to X10 signals sent by X10 controllers elsewhere on the home's power lines. Dial in a House Code and Unit Code and it's ready to go. The lamp still works normally with the module in place — nothing is lost by adding it.

Model Differences

• PLM01 (AGC): Advanced X10 powerline circuit design for operation in adverse (noisy) electrical environments — better noise rejection. Recommended wherever reliable operation is critical.
• PLM03 (Non-AGC): Greater sensitivity to the X10 command signal in installations where electronic interference is low.

Tip: Keep one of each module type on hand — one may perform better than the other depending on the installation's noise environment.

Local Control

The Lamp Module can sense if any load is plugged into it. When the lamp's own on/off switch is toggled ON, the module responds by turning the connected lamp ON.

X10 Protocol

• House Code dial: Letters A–P, default "A"
• Unit Number dial: Numbers 1–16, default "1"
• Each Receiver Module is set to a unique Unit Number, or shared as desired.
• Every controller operating a set of receivers must share their House Code.
• Responds to the ALL LIGHTS ON command.

Electrical Protocol

Nearly all residential homes are wired split-phase — each 120V phase is not directly connected to the other. If a receiver doesn't respond to a controller after installation, verify the breaker serving the receiver is on the same phase as the controller (move it if not), or install a Phase Coupler to improve whole-home communication.

Setting the Address Code (PLM01)

Using a small screwdriver, set the House Code wheel (red) to match your X10 controller (A–P), then set the Unit Code wheel (black) to the desired address number (1–16).

Installation

1. Plug the Lamp Module into any wall outlet, following the electrical protocol note above.
2. Plug the light to be controlled into the module's bottom outlet, and make sure the light's own switch is turned on.
3. The light turns on immediately.
4. Send an X10 OFF command to turn it off. Installation complete.
