Setup and operating instructions for the X10 AM486/AM466 Appliance Modules — plug-in X10-controlled modules for switching lamps and appliances on and off remotely.

    Overview

The Appliance Module plugs into a standard wall outlet and lets any X10 controller turn a connected lamp or appliance on and off. It can control an incandescent lamp rated up to 500W, as well as fluorescent lamps, low-voltage lamps, dimmer-equipped lamps, and general appliances. The AM486 has a 2-pin plug; the AM466 has a 3-pin (grounded) plug — otherwise they operate identically.

Caution: Always observe the ratings printed on the label on the back of the Appliance Module before connecting a device.

    Setting the Module's Code

    1. Using a small screwdriver, set the red House Code dial to the same letter used by your X10 controller(s).
    2. Set the black Unit Code dial to any unused number.

    Setup Steps

    1. Set the House Code and Unit Code (as above).
    2. Plug an appliance into the Module.
    3. Plug the Module into the same wall outlet as your controller (for testing).

    Testing the Module

Make sure the appliance's switch is turned on. Plug the Module into the same wall outlet as your controller, then press the On and Off buttons on the controller that correspond to the Module's Unit Code setting. If the Module turns on and off correctly, you can unplug it and move it to its permanent location. If the module doesn't respond, visit x10.com/support for troubleshooting help.
