Installation instructions for the WaterCop® SmartConnect (WCSCLV) — a WiFi/mobile gateway that adds remote monitoring and control to a WaterCop automatic water shut-off system.

    System Description

The WaterCop® SmartConnect is designed to work alongside a WaterCop® system to deliver real-time notifications of plumbing leaks and let you remotely control the WaterCop valve to shut off the water supply via a smartphone or tablet app. The SmartConnect unit is powered through the WaterCop AUX I/O port over a CAT5 or CAT6 cable, up to 50 feet. WaterCop systems WCACT1, WPMS, WPMSH, WCNM, and WCNM2 require an external power supply, ACA100 (sold separately).

    Box Contents

    • WaterCop SmartConnect device
    • Wall mount fasteners/anchors
    • Interconnect cable
    • Owner's Manual

    How the System Works

The SmartConnect unit receives valve status from the WaterCop AUX I/O output and relays it to a cloud server, which pushes it to the SmartConnect App on your phone or tablet. A detected leak triggers an app notification. You can open/close the WaterCop valve remotely through the app. The app also alerts you to signal loss between the SmartConnect and the cloud service, which may indicate a power or internet outage.

    System Requirements

    • Smartphone or tablet: Android 5.0+ or iOS 10.3+, with SIM card or WiFi connectivity
    • 2.4 GHz router with protected WiFi (password 19 characters or less)
    • Bluetooth 4.1 or above
    • WCACT1, WPMS, WPMSH, WCNM, and WCNM2 units require the additional ACA100 power supply (sold separately)

    Setup

    1. Remove WaterCop SmartConnect from the box.
    2. Mount it using the supplied wall anchors (or other suitable method).
    3. Run a CAT5/CAT6 cable from the WaterCop unit to the SmartConnect port marked "CONNECT TO VALVE ACTUATOR" (power is delivered through this cable; WCACT1/WPMS/WPMSH/WCNM/WCNM2 need the optional ACA100 power supply).
    4. Download the WaterCop SmartConnect App (Google Play or App Store). Enable Bluetooth and Location Services, and ensure adequate cellular/WiFi connectivity.
    5. Open the app and tap "Create account," enter your information, and tap "Create."
    6. Join the WiFi network you want the SmartConnect to use — it will populate in the app during setup.
    7. Log in if not already logged in.
    8. On the My WaterCop Devices screen, tap "Add" while near the SmartConnect. Verify the MAC address on the popup matches the label on the device, then select it.
    9. Enter the Unit ID from the carton or device label.
    10. Enter the WiFi password (auto-populated network name) or check the box for a direct Ethernet connection to the router.
    11. Tap "ADD DEVICE."
    12. Tap the displayed device to complete setup.
    13. Tap the Settings icon, rename the SmartConnect for easy identification, enter its address, and tap "SAVE."

    Setup Contacts & Testing Notifications

    1. Tap the device, then the human/contacts icon near Settings.
    2. Tap "ADD CONTACT," enter notification info, and tap "SAVE." Repeat with "ADD" for more contacts.

Installer note: If contacts aren't on-site to confirm notification receipt, add your own contact info to test, then delete it when testing is complete.

Updating WiFi Password / Factory Reset

To update the WiFi password after initial setup: Device → Settings → Advanced Settings → WI-FI Settings → enter new credentials → SAVE.

To reset to factory settings (equivalent to "Forget Network," which also erases the stored WiFi password): Device → Settings → Advanced Settings → RESET TO FACTORY SETTINGS.

    Troubleshooting

    Problem Solution
Cannot see or connect to device at "Add" screen Toggle Bluetooth off/on on your mobile device. If that fails, disconnect and reconnect the CAT5 cable or power supply from the SmartConnect to cycle power.
No connection, buttons gray after configuring WiFi Verify the network name/password are correct (the app won't flag an incorrect password). Also check power/WiFi connectivity to the SmartConnect.
Valve "CONNECTION LOST" message Occurs if 30 seconds pass before connecting to a network during setup, or on a power/internet outage. Clears once reconnected.
"Internet error valve did not change state" message Ensure the WiFi password is 19 characters or less.
