    Getting Started

    1. Prep Your Network

    • Do not install the VSSL before checking your network.
    • Analyze your existing network topology and log in to your networking equipment.
    • Make adjustments per the recommendations below, then reboot networking equipment.

Recommendations: Download speeds of at least 1Mbps recommended. Satellite internet, 3G/4G/LTE hotspots, and cellular internet are not recommended. Guest WiFi and shared networks are not supported.

    Network Topology Best Practices

    • In homes with multiple access points, use an AP controller and consolidate all APs to a single switch; install the VSSL within that same switch.
    • In homes with a switch, ensure it's placed downstream from the router.
    • In homes with 2 routers (e.g., ISP modem/router + 3rd-party router), place the ISP router in "Bridge Mode" to avoid Double NAT.
    • Do not connect the VSSL via Ethernet to access points, mesh points, or network extenders.
    • Ensure the Ethernet patch cable is fully functional — cables commonly degrade over time.

    General Router Settings

    • Ensure the router has the most up-to-date firmware.
    • Avoid Double NAT when using a 3rd-party router/mesh system by placing the ISP router in Bridge Mode (e.g., Google, eero).
    • Separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi bands with different SSIDs.
    • Enable UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) and IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol).
    • Disable "AP Isolation"/"Client Isolation" when using access points.
    • Enable "Multicasting" (terminology varies by manufacturer).
    • Disable IPv6, use IPv4 only.
    • When using Apple devices, enable "Bonjour" or "ZeroConf Discovery".
    • See more router-specific suggestions at vssl.com/support.

    2. Plan Your Audio System

The A.6X requires a connection to your high-speed network via Ethernet cable. Plan how each device in your audio system will be connected and located. Follow all speaker, subwoofer, and external device manufacturers' wiring/powering guidelines. Each zone is stable down to 4 ohms — ensure speaker impedance load per channel does not fall below 4 ohms.

    3. Installation Options

    • Tabletop — ensure adequate ventilation and at least 0.5" headroom above the device. When stacking multiple A.6X units, use the magnetic feet on the bottom.
    • Rack — use the included rack mount ears; at least 0.5" headroom above the unit is recommended.

    4. Download the VSSL App

Download the VSSL app from your mobile device's app store. Open the app and follow the guided setup to connect and configure your A.6X.

    Playing Music

    AirPlay 2

Stream music, podcasts, radio, and more directly from your favorite apps to the A.6X. With multiple VSSL zones, enjoy music or podcasts throughout the house in perfect sync, or play different songs in different rooms.

    Chromecast Built-In

Cast music from your phone, tablet, or laptop directly to your speakers using apps you already know. Tap the Cast button in the app to stream to the VSSL A.6X. For groups/volume control of Chromecast sessions, use the Google Home app. See google.com/cast/apps for a full list of Chromecast-enabled apps.

    Spotify Connect

Use your phone, tablet, or computer as a remote for Spotify. See spotify.com/connect.

    Alexa Cast

Play and control music on any VSSL zone from your Amazon Music iOS/Android app — your devices don't need to be on the same WiFi network, and you can target any zone from anywhere.

    Local Music Library

Use any DLNA, Chromecast, Alexa, or AirPlay-based streaming app to play local content, including from a NAS drive.

    External Audio System (Output)

    1. Connect an external amplifier (home theater receiver, high-power amp, outdoor system) to one of the analog outputs.
    2. The output defaults to variable, controllable from your phone or other streaming device; a fixed output can be configured in the app.
    3. In the VSSL app's device settings, assign the desired zone to supply the line-level signal to that output.

    External Audio System (Input)

    1. Connect the external audio source (satellite TV box, record player, etc.) to the A.6X optical, analog, or coaxial input.
    2. If the source has an IR remote, connect the provided IR sensor to the back panel and learn its controls through the app.
    3. Set priority to "Local first" in the app's zone settings (default priority is "Streaming first").
    4. In the app's Zones section, select the desired zone's RCA icon and choose the corresponding input.

    Connecting a Subwoofer

    1. Connect the subwoofer to one of the A.6X's analog outputs (use a Y RCA adapter to combine stereo inputs to mono, if needed). Bus outputs are full range — reference the subwoofer amp manual to ensure the RCA input passes through the local crossover.
    2. In the app's device settings, assign the analog output to the zone supplying the subwoofer's line-level signal.
    3. Adjust crossover settings in the app's zone settings as desired.

Note: To connect a subwoofer with high-level speaker outputs, use an amplifier capable of receiving a high-level input signal.

    Voice Control

    Google Assistant

Works seamlessly with Google Assistant — say things like "Play some music in the master bedroom" or "Stop the music in the kitchen." Set a default room from the Google Home speaker to shorten phrases to "Play music," "Turn up the volume," "Stop."

    Amazon Alexa

Log in to your Amazon account through the VSSL app interface — your VSSL zone becomes instantly available in the Alexa app. Rename the zone and add it to a group under "Set Up Multi-Room Music."

    Apple Siri

As a certified AirPlay 2 product, use Siri on iPhone, Mac, or Apple TV: "Play 'I Want It All' by Queen on all speakers," "Play something I like on all speakers," "Play/pause music," "Repeat last song/album/playlist," "Fast forward 30 seconds," etc. First add the device to your home in the iOS Apple HomeKit app (see Apple's support article: support.apple.com/en-us/HT208724).

    VSSL App

    • Initial Setup — the app auto-recognizes the A.6X when plugged in and guides you through naming zones and streaming setup.
    • Playback & Volume Control — adjust volume, control playback, and assign external input sources per zone from the home screen.
    • Paging — tap the microphone icon, press and hold the desired zone, and record a message to page any/all zones. Page volume is adjustable when logged into the app.
    • IR Control — learn IR codes from your TV/control-system remote to control zone volume; connect the included IR cable to the IR Remote port and follow the app's prompts.
    • Max Volume — set volume limits per zone via left/right channel max volume sliders; the app also functions as an SPL meter showing current sound pressure in dB.
    • Priority — default is "Streaming first" when two source types compete for a zone; toggle to "Local first" if needed (useful when speakers serve both TV and distributed audio).
    • EQ Settings — toggle "Enable EQ" and adjust treble/mid/bass presets, or use "Advanced EQ" for finer frequency adjustments.

    Device Status

    Troubleshooting

VSSL App Spins / Cannot Find a Zone

    1. Ensure the device and app are on the same network — if the device can't connect, zone indicators will all be red.
    2. If zone indicators are blinking white, the A.6X requires setup in the app.
    3. Perform a factory reset from the app, or hold the reset button for at least 5 seconds.
    4. Visit vssl.com/knowledgebase/vssl-networking-support/ for network adjustments (with your ISP's help), then reboot the network.
    5. Perform a factory reset again after network adjustments if needed.

    Missing Device

Check the power indicator, internet connection, and that the device shares the same network as the streaming app. If zone indicators blink white, the A.6X needs setup. If unresolved, factory reset.

    Can't Connect to a Zone

Reboot the A.6X (power switch off/on), then factory reset if needed, followed by network adjustments per the knowledgebase link and a network reboot.

    No Music Output

    1. Check speaker connections — ensure cables are properly terminated in the phoenix connectors with no wires touching other ports.
    2. In the app, confirm the zone isn't muted and volume is turned up.
    3. Ensure each zone's impedance load does not exceed 4 ohms (see vssl.com/support).
    4. Try different streaming protocols (AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect) across different apps.
    5. Factory reset if the issue persists.

    Music Stops Intermittently

Restart the streaming app, reduce wireless interference by moving the source closer to the router/AP, check for service outages, and follow the networking-support adjustments if the problem continues.

Zone Indicator Lights Are Solid Red

Check the internet connection and replace the Ethernet cable, reboot the A.6X, then factory reset if unresolved.

    Indicator Lights Are Dead

Ensure the power cord is fully inserted, factory reset, and contact VSSL support if the issue persists.

Google Home App Cannot Find Zone

Check the power indicator, internet connection, and that the device is on the same network (all-red indicators mean no network connection). Factory reset if needed.

    Streaming App Is Frozen

Hard-close and restart the app, then reboot the A.6X from the app or via the power switch.
