Installation instructions for the STI Horn/Strobe Damage Stopper Series (STI-1210B, 1210E, 1217, 1221E, 1225) protective enclosures.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation instructions for the STI Horn/Strobe Damage Stopper® Series (STI-1210B, STI-1210E, STI-1217, STI-1221E, STI-1225) — protective polycarbonate enclosures that shield fire alarm horn/strobe appliances from vandalism and physical damage while maintaining code-compliant light and sound output.

    Installation Notes

    • To minimize strobe light loss regardless of horn/strobe appliance type, the clear section (not the section containing the cutout slots) must be centered over the strobe light lens. Failure to follow this instruction may cause light transmission loss.
    • The Damage Stopper must be installed in compliance with applicable NEC, NFPA, and local codes.
    • In applications where wash-downs, rainfall, or condensation occur, it is recommended that a drain or weep hole be provided.
    • The Damage Stopper may be installed outdoors only when the covered appliance itself carries an outdoor rating.

    Installation Steps

    1. Using the enclosure assembly as a template, place it against the mounting surface at the proper location per NFPA 72.
    2. Mark and drill (4) holes, ¼" (6.3mm) diameter, 1" (25mm) deep.
    3. Insert the (4) anchors into the wall.
    4. Mount the frame assembly to the wall with screws.
    5. Install electrical fittings as needed.
    6. Install the horn/strobe appliance (except for retrofit applications).
    7. Install the cover with clips and screws.
    8. Test the appliance per the appliance manufacturer's instructions.

If added protection is needed due to environmental conditions, order Kit-121 Enviro Kit.

    UL Installation Requirements — STI-1210 / STI-1221 Series

    • This enclosure is rated to protect signaling appliances indoors and in areas of indirect weather exposure. The cover may be used outdoors only with devices also suitable for outdoor use.
    • Covering fire-signaling appliances with this enclosure causes some light and sound loss — follow the guidelines below during installation.
    • Voice speaker appliance: No spacing adjustment is required for 0.5W, 1.0W, and 2.0W appliances.
    • Refer to the appliance manufacturer's candela rating, multiply by the light-loss value below to determine the new candela rating, and use that value with the NFPA 72 notification layout table for proper device placement.
    • Use of this cover on audible devices decreases sound output by 6 dB(A) — actual sound levels should be verified after installation against the NFPA 72 notification layout table.
