    Instructions for the X10 PRO PSM04 (RLM20) Screw-in Lamp Module — a plug-in style X10 receiver that screws into a standard lamp socket and switches an incandescent bulb on/off via X10 power-line signals.

    Overview

    Unlike conventional X10 PRO modules, the PSM04 does not have House Code and Unit Code dial wheels. Instead, its Address Code is set electronically over the home's power lines using an X10 PRO controller (such as a PMC01 Mini-Controller). The module remembers its code even after a power outage, so it can be programmed at a convenient location (like a table lamp) and then moved to its final installation spot.

    Only 1¼" in diameter (adds about 1¼" of extension to the bulb) with a small 3/8" bump on one side, the PSM04 fits inside most wired-in fixture covers (e.g. glass or plastic ceiling light covers) and under most lampshades, making it well suited for table lamps.

    X10 Protocol

    • House Code dial: Letters A–P, default "A"
    • Unit Number dial: Numbers 1–16, default "1"
    • Each X10 receiver module is set to a unique Unit Number, or an identical Unit Number as desired.
    • Each X10 controller operating a specific set of receiver modules must be set to the same House Code as those receivers.
    • Responds to the ALL LIGHTS ON command.

    Electrical Protocol (Split-Phase Wiring)

    Nearly all residential homes are wired split-phase — each 120V phase is not directly connected to the other. If an X10 receiver doesn't respond to a remote controller after installation, check that the breaker serving the receiver is on the same phase as the controller. If not, the breaker can be moved to the opposite phase. Alternatively, install a Phase Coupler to improve remote communication throughout the home (see x10pro.com > Technical Support > PLC Troubleshooting).

    Programming the PSM04 to a New Address

    If the default address of A1 is acceptable for your application, no programming is needed.

    1. Obtain a standard table lamp and a PMC01 Mini-Controller (or equivalent) — this is the easiest, most reliable method.
    2. Install a 40W or higher incandescent bulb into the lamp socket, turn the lamp on to confirm the bulb works, then switch it off.
    3. Remove the bulb from the lamp, install the bulb into the PSM04, then install the PSM04 into the lamp socket.
    4. Plug the Mini-Controller (PMC01) into the same outlet as the lamp.
    5. Set the X10 PRO controller to the House Code (A–P) you want the PSM04 to respond to.
    6. Turn the lamp switch on, applying power to the PSM04.
    7. Press the "ON" button on the Mini-Controller (matching the desired Unit Number) 3 times at about 1-second intervals. On the third press the bulb turns on, confirming the code has been learned.
    8. The PSM04 can now be moved to its final installation location. Be sure to observe the Electrical Protocol above for reliable remote operation.
