Overview

The AD-2001 combines busy-line and no-answer detection with prompt transmission of up to 2 prerecorded messages, delivered sequentially to as many as 4 standard telephones, cellular phones, voice pagers, and/or numeric pagers. It operates with any alarm system via dry contact or voltage-activation sensors, or as a stand-alone device via a standard telephone jack.

Programming the Dialer

Keypad Reference

• Numerals: Enter phone numbers and programming information (max 50 digits per phone/pager location)
• P: Programs a 2-second pause
• R: Records outgoing messages (OGMs), max 51 seconds total
• M: Cycles the dialer mode: PROGRAM → TEST → OPERATE → OFF

Removing power or switching to OFF mode does not erase programming.

First-Time Initialization

1. Apply power. LCD reads: "NOT PROGRAMMED, PRESS KEYPAD #1"
2. Press 1. LCD changes to "USP AD2001 X.X" then "PROGRAM: NUMBERS, SELECT: 1-4, 0(DONE)"

Programming Phone / Pager Numbers

1. Press a location number 1-4 for the number you're programming (any order is fine).
2. Press "1" for a numeric pager, or "2" for a telephone number, cellular number, or voice pager.
3. Numeric pagers: Press the pager digits, then "P" one or more times for pauses (2 sec each, call ahead to determine how many), then the numeric code, then "*" to store. Some pager services require a "#" at the end for proper transmission.
4. Telephone numbers: Press the digits (for long distance, press "1" + area code + number first), then "*" to store.
5. Voice pagers: Press the pager digits, then "P" for pauses, then "*" to store.
6. Repeat for each location; press "0" when done to exit.

Important: Before programming the dialer to call police, fire department, or 9-1-1 directly, you must obtain approval from those agencies.

Auxiliary Settings (T-Line, PBX, Attempts, Message Repeats)

Recording Outgoing Messages (OGMs)

Choose one of 4 OGM options:

1. Option 1: No OGM.
2. Option 2: 1 OGM, up to 51 seconds.
3. Option 3: 2 OGMs, each up to 25.5 seconds.
4. Option 4: ID (up to 15 sec) plus 2 OGMs (up to 18 sec each). If the ID is shorter than 15 seconds, the remainder is split between the OGMs.

To record: select "PROGRAM: OGMS" → "1(YES)" → select your option → press and hold "R" to record (speaking 6-12 inches from the mic) → release when done → play back and accept, or re-record.

Programming Channels

1. Select "PROGRAM: CHANNELS" → "1(YES)" → select channel 1 or 2.
2. Enable/Disable the channel.
3. Set Exit Delay (0-199 seconds) if desired.
4. Set Entry Delay (0-199 seconds) if desired.
5. Select N.O. or N.C. (normally open / normally closed).
6. Select Momentary or Continuous activation.
7. Choose which phone/pager numbers (1-4) will be dialed for this channel.
8. Choose which OGM(s) will play for this channel. (An ID message, if recorded, plays on all channels automatically.)
9. Accept the channel configuration.

Tip: If you enter a wrong choice at any point, press "M" repeatedly to return to Program Mode, then navigate back to fix it.

Testing Your System

Test mode checks stored information without making a real call (max 1 attempt/number, 1 OGM playback). Cycle "M" to "TEST: T-LINE," "TEST: CHANNEL(S)," and select channels to test (or "3" for both). Always follow up by connecting to the phone line and testing again in Operate mode — and notify anyone you're calling that it's just a test.

Operating the System

In Operate mode, the dialer monitors both enabled channels. Upon a valid alarm condition, it dials each programmed number in sequence for the preset number of attempts, delivering the message 1-3 times per successful connection. After 8 busy signals or unanswered rings, it moves to the next number. Numeric pager locations never receive voice messages.

Exit/Entry Delays

If a channel is activated during exit delay, the alarm is ignored until the delay expires. On entry delay, the dialer waits before dialing — press "M" during this window to abort and return to OFF mode. Delays range 1-199 seconds.

Additional Features

• Listen-In: While hearing an OGM on a touch-tone phone, press "1" to listen to the premises for one minute (repeatable).
• Two-Way: While listening in, press "2" to begin a 1-minute two-way conversation (repeatable; cannot return to Listen-In afterward).
• Remote Turn-Off: Press "1" then "#" twice within one second during an OGM to remotely terminate the activated channel.

Care & Precautions

• Place on a flat surface or mount on a wall, away from extreme heat/cold, direct sunlight, humidity, and strong magnetic fields.
• Clean with a soft, water-dampened cloth — never use solvents like alcohol or thinner.
• Do not use during a suspected gas leak or lightning storm.
• If liquid or a foreign object enters the unit, disconnect immediately and contact your installer.
