    Installation Overview

The CRM3 (24 Vdc Control Panel, part# 40821J) delivers power directly to low-voltage actuators, or serves as a switch for multiple RB24 Relay Boxes. It independently controls 1–4 actuator groups via output terminals M1-M4, subject to a max current draw of 4 amps across any combination of the 4 terminals. Input power is 115 Vac, 60Hz; a back-up power source can be connected at the JP4 terminal inside the case.

The CRM4 (115 Vac Control Panel, part# 40822K) delivers power directly to line-voltage actuators. It independently controls 1–4 actuator groups via M1-M4, subject to a max current draw of 7 amps across any combination. Input power is 115 Vac, 60Hz; a back-up power source can also be connected at JP4.

The Control Panel's four actuator groups start up sequentially to eliminate excess current draw risk.

    Control Accessories & Alarm States

The Control Panel receives commands from optional accessories, which can trigger an "alarm state" causing actuators to close the windows. Alarm State 1 persists for a minimum of 8 minutes, during which windows cannot be opened via Keypad, Momentary Switch, or External Control System (unless rain/wind sensors are disabled).

Control Accessory Alarm State Seniority Min. Duration Enable/Disable Switch
Rain sensor 1 8 minutes External switch on Control Panel
Wind detector 1 8 minutes External switch on Control Panel
Thermostat 2 3 minutes External switch on Thermostat
    Push-button Keypad 3 3 minutes N/A
    Infra-red Remote Control 3 3 minutes N/A
Momentary contact switch / external control 3 3 minutes N/A

    Installation Procedure

Check that the Control Panel's electrical fuses are in place (see Fuse table below).

Momentary Contact Switch / External Control System

A single-pole double-throw (SPDT) momentary contact switch or external control system connects at terminal JP7, delivering OPEN/CLOSE commands as brief impulse signals (0.5–2 sec). The Control Panel acts on all four actuator groups, as if commanded from a Keypad with all 4 LEDs on. Both Keypad and Momentary Switch can be connected simultaneously. Wall switch spec: 15 amps max draw per switch (DC motors with CRM or relay box); dimensions 4" x 1-1/4" x 1-1/2".

    Push-Button Keypad (Part # 40770K)

Connects at terminals JP5/JP6; multiple keypads can be wired in parallel. Dimensions: 3" x 3" x 1-1/2". Allows independent control of 1–4 actuator groups via serial communication.

Use SELECT to light 1, 2, 3, 4, or all 4 LEDs (one per actuator group), then press OPEN or CLOSE to activate; press the opposite button once to stop the motor. The Control Panel delivers power for a 3-minute interval, then cuts off as a safety precaution. The Keypad has an 8-channel IR detector for the Remote Control — channel 0 (factory default) accepts all frequencies; channels 1-7 restrict to that channel only.

Remote Control (optional, Part # 40771L)

Uses serial protocol and line-of-sight IR signals — must be pointed at the Keypad, not the actuator. Effective range ~30 feet. Requires two 1.5V AAA alkaline batteries (not included). Dimensions: 4" x 1-13/16" x 1". Has an 8-channel IR transmitter matching the Keypad's channel setting (0 = factory default).

Wind Detector / Anemometer (optional, Part # 37185V)

Connects at terminal JP9, sending a variable signal per wind intensity. An 8-position selector inside the Control Panel sets the closing threshold ("0" disables; 1-7 correspond to the Beaufort scale). One sensor can serve up to six CRM Control Panels. Disable via the external switch on the Control Panel case. Dimensions: 4-1/2" x 4" x 4".

Selector Beaufort Knots Mi/Hr Feet/sec Description
    0 0 0 0 0 calm
    1 1 1-3 1-3 <7 light air
    2 2 4-6 4-7 7-10 light breeze
    3 (factory) 3 7-10 8-12 11-16 gentle breeze
    4 4 11-16 13-18 17-23 moderate breeze
    5 5 17-21 19-24 24-33 brisk breeze
    6 6 22-27 25-31 34-43 strong breeze
    7 7 28-33 32-38 44-53 near gale

    Thermostat (optional, Part # 40675K)

Single threshold setting — windows open when ambient temperature rises above threshold, close when below. Rain and wind sensors take priority over the thermostat. Disable via the external ON/OFF switch on the thermostat case. One thermostat can connect to up to six CRM Control Panels. Dimensions: 3" x 3-1/4" x 1-1/2".

Rain Sensor (optional, Part # 40690A)

Connects at terminal JP8. One sensor can connect to up to six CRM Control Panels. Mount outdoors with the copper-colored grid exposed to the sky. Dimensions: 1-1/2" x 2" x 2". Has a heating element to prevent ice formation.

    • Consider prevailing winds and keep away from obstructions when siting.
    • Do not run wiring through a window screen opening occupied by the actuator's chain, or near the chain's path.
    • Rain and wind sensors take priority over the thermostat. Disable via the external switch on the Control Panel case.
    • Do not use the rain sensor if the actuator serves Smoke Ventilation.
    • Clean the sensor's copper grid regularly with mild soap and water — dirt/debris can trigger false alarm states, keeping vents closed even when it's not raining.

    Actuator Connections

Actuator groups connect at output terminals M1, M2, M3, M4. CRM3 (24 Vdc, part# 40821J) delivers power directly to DC low-voltage actuators or switches multiple RB24 Relay Boxes, controlling 1–4 groups at up to 4 amps combined. CRM4 (115 Vac, part# 40822K) delivers power directly to AC line-voltage actuators, controlling 1–4 groups at up to 7 amps combined. Both require 115 Vac, 60Hz input; a back-up power source connects at JP4 in either case.

RB24 Relay Box (for 24V DC motors only)

A passive device controlling low-voltage actuators via output terminals Motor1 and Motor2, up to 10 amps per terminal (20 amps per Relay Box). It handles polarity reversal for Motor1/Motor2. An SPDT momentary contact switch or external control system connects at terminal CN6, delivering OPEN/CLOSE impulse signals (0.5–2 sec) that operate all actuators on the Relay Box.

    • With Jumper In Place (One Touch Switch Operation): Press the switch once — the RB24 powers actuators for a 3-minute interval, long enough to fully open or close. Press the opposite-direction switch to stop the motor.
    • With Jumper Removed (Press & Hold Operation): Press and hold the switch until fully open/closed; release to stop.
