Instruction/installation sheet for the On-Q/Legrand lyriQ™ High Performance Keypad Volume Control with IR (P/N AU1000-xx) — a Category 5-wired, whole-house audio keypad volume control with built-in dual 20W-per-channel Class D amplifiers, part of the lyriQ™ Multi-Room Audio System.

Overview

The High Performance Keypad Volume Control combines with other lyriQ™ system components and source equipment (receiver, CD player, etc.) to build a whole-house audio system. It uses a single Category 5 cable to carry audio signals, control data, and IR for remote control, and has two on-board 20W/channel Class D amplifiers — enough for outdoor or large-room use. It looks almost identical to the standard lyriQ™ Keypad Volume Control (F7394-xx), but is distinguished by parentheses around the music-note icon and an RJ45 jack (rather than a 110-style punchdown block) on the rear.

Controls & Connections

• Front panel: Volume Up/Down (with 5 green bar-graph LEDs), Source (with 4 green source LEDs), Mute (red status LED), plus an IR target window and tri-color status LED.
• TB2 (Speaker Output): spring-loaded, up to 14-gauge wire, for connecting evoQ™ speakers (L+, L-, R+, R-).
• TB3 (Line Out): spring-loaded, up to 14-gauge wire, mono-summed and filtered through an 80Hz low-pass filter — for powered subwoofers or an external amplifier (unamplified; volume control still governs output level).
• TB1 (Power In): spring-loaded, up to 14-gauge speaker wire (16/4 recommended, paired with Cat5) run from a power distribution module (P/N AU1001) in the enclosure. Red/white wires to the plus (red) side, black/green wires to the minus (black) side.
• J1: RJ45 jack for the Category 5 data/control connection, wired to the T568A standard.

Installation

Install at "Rough-in" (before drywall) and "Trim-out" (after drywall/paint):

• Rough-in: run one Category 5 cable and one 16/4 speaker wire from the enclosure to a single-gang outlet box or mud ring at each volume control location.
• Trim-out: terminate the Cat5 cable with an RJ45 plug (T568A standard) into jack J1. For power, strip 3/8" of insulation from each of the four conductors and insert red/white into the TB1 plus side, black/green into the minus side (the two plus and two minus terminals are tied together, provided in pairs for wiring flexibility). Connect speakers to TB2 and any subwoofer/external amp to TB3, observing L+/L-/R+/R- polarity markings. In the enclosure, terminate the Cat5 run with an RJ45 plug into the matching zone output jack of the lyriQ™ audio distribution module, and wire the 16/4 power cable the same way as at the keypad end.
• Test all connections before mounting; use the included screws to install into a standard single-gang box (20 in³ or larger recommended if not using a low-voltage mounting ring).

Make sure power supplies are disconnected from the lyriQ™ Audio and Power Distribution Modules before wiring, and always terminate Cat5 to the T568A standard — mismatched standards can damage equipment.

Operation

• On/Off: press any button to turn on; press and hold Mute to turn off.
• Source select: press Source repeatedly to cycle through sources; volume automatically ramps down then back up on a source change.
• Volume: Up/Down buttons, 40 steps.
• Mute: tap the Mute button.
• Back-light adjust: hold Volume Up + Down together, then use Volume Up/Down to set level; press Source or Mute to exit (or wait 10 seconds).
• Temporary Do Not Disturb: double-tap Mute (status LED glows dim red); the keypad won't respond to whole-house commands while in this mode. Press any button to exit.
• Whole-House Source Control / Party Mode: press Mute + Source together (IR/status LED blinks orange). All button presses on this keypad are then relayed to every active keypad in the system. Press-and-hold Source while in this mode turns on and syncs all keypads to the currently selected source; double-tapping Source syncs all keypads directly to this keypad's current source. Exits automatically after 10 seconds of inactivity, or by pressing-and-holding Mute + Source again.

Installer Configuration (Installer Mode)

Enter Installer Mode by holding all four buttons (Volume Up, Down, Mute, Source) for ~5 seconds (status LED flashes green then red). Within Installer Mode, press Source to select a setting group, then use Volume buttons to adjust:

• LED #1 — Permanent DND: Bar Graph LED #1 = enabled, #2 = disabled.
• LED #2 — Turn-On Volume level.
• LED #3 — Maximum Volume the user cannot exceed.
• LED #4 — IR Receiver Adjust: #1 = normal IR, #2 = IR output disabled (remote controls only this unit), #3 = IR target disabled (useful for ganged volume controls).
• LED #1+#2 — Balance (left/right).
• LED #1+#3 — Back Light Mode: #1 = on, #2 = off.
• LED #1+#2+#3+#4 — Reset to factory defaults (press Volume Up or Down).

Firmware version check: with the unit on, press Mute, Volume Down, Volume Up, Volume Up, and repeat the sequence 3 times; the firmware revision then displays on the Source and Volume Bar Graph LEDs.

Safety Precautions

• Only qualified personnel should service, move, or modify system components.
• Installation must conform to all local building and electrical codes.
• Do not power the system until all components are installed and wiring is properly terminated.
• Unplug the power transformer(s) at the enclosure before any wiring changes.
• Keep components away from heat sources (HVAC ducts, stoves, etc.) and moisture — moisture exposure voids the warranty.
• Clean cover plates only with a damp cloth — no vacuum, liquid, or aerosol cleaners.
