TrickleStar 181SS-US-7XX Advanced Surge Protector — User Manual

User manual for the TrickleStar 181SS-US-7XX advanced surge protector power strip, featuring high-quality surge protection, noise filtering, and automatic standby power reduction for TV and PC peripherals via smart "Control Outlet" sensing.

How It Works

State-of-the-art, high-quality, fireproof surge protection that stops standby power consumed by PC and TV peripherals (printer, speakers, charger, modem, scanner, sub-woofer, DVD player, etc.). Current-sensing circuitry detects when a PC/TV is off and automatically switches off the selected switched-outlet peripherals to save energy.

Fireproof Surge Protection: Incorporates fireproof metal oxide varistors (MOVs) encased in a ceramic casing, which suppress more energy and dissipate heat faster than traditional MOVs — the ceramic casing helps prevent fire during abnormal surge conditions.

Installation Requirements

• Power Connections: The product must only be plugged into a grounded receptacle. All connected devices should be plugged directly into the product — using an extension cord, adapter, or other power strip in conjunction with this product will void all warranties.
• Phone/Fax/Modem Surge Protection: Connect the telephone/fax/modem cable through the protected connectors on the product, or the Connected Device Warranty is voided.
• Antenna/TV Surge Protection: Connect the antenna/cable through the protected connectors on the product, or the Connected Device Warranty is voided.

Product Overview / Controls & Indicators

• PC/TV On / Off: Detected via the Control Outlet — Peripherals switch on/off in conjunction with it.
• Ground LED: Illuminated = correctly grounded. Not illuminated = grounding problem; contact an electrician. Connecting to an improperly grounded receptacle voids all warranties.
• Surge LED: Illuminated = surge protection functioning normally. If it illuminates red or extinguishes, the unit sacrificed itself to protect your devices and must be replaced.
• Resettable Circuit Breaker: Protects all outlets. If no devices are powered or LEDs lit, press the circuit breaker to reactivate power.
• Always-On Outlets: Remain powered at all times.
• Switched Outlets: Switch on/off in conjunction with the device plugged into the Control Outlet.
• Switching Threshold: Adjusts the wattage threshold that triggers the switched outlets: 10W (Low/Notebook), 22W (Medium/PC), 42W (High/TV).
• Switched Outlets LED: Lit when the switched outlets are powered.

TV Setup — Step by Step

1. Plug an always-on device (e.g., a TiVo) into the "Always On" outlets.
2. Plug in the TV to the Control Outlet.
3. Plug devices into the switched outlets (amp, subwoofer, games console, DVD player).
4. Adjust the switching threshold — typically "High" for TV applications.
5. Connect antenna/cable through the secondary surge protection (on units with this feature).
6. Plug the power strip into a grounded receptacle.

PC Setup — Step by Step

1. Plug an always-on device (e.g., a router and modem) into the "Always On" outlets.
2. Plug in the PC to the Control Outlet.
3. Plug devices into the switched outlets (printer, scanner, speakers, chargers).
4. Adjust the switching threshold — typically "Low" or "Medium" for notebooks or desktop PCs.
5. Connect telephone/modem/router/fax through the secondary surge protection (on units with this feature).
6. Plug the power strip into a grounded receptacle.

Product Warranty

The product lifetime is 10 years. TrickleStar warrants to the original purchaser that, for the product lifetime, it shall be free of defects in design, assembly, material, or workmanship, and will repair or replace it free of charge at TrickleStar's option.

Connected Device Warranty

TrickleStar will repair or replace, at its option, devices damaged by a transient voltage surge/spike or lightning strike while properly connected through the product to a properly wired, grounded AC power line — with the telephone, network, and/or antenna lines also properly connected per this manual. This limited warranty covers up to a maximum of US$30,000 for the 181SS-US-7XX/12 models, based on fair market value (per the Orion Blue Book) or original purchase price, whichever is less.

Warranty Exclusions

The warranties are void if: the product isn't provided for inspection on request; the product wasn't installed per the Installation Requirements or was altered/tampered with; the damage didn't actually result from a surge occurrence; connected devices weren't used under normal operating conditions; the product isn't plugged directly into a receptacle; the product is "daisy-chained" with other power boards, UPS units, surge protectors, or extension cords; a 3-to-2-prong adapter is used; or the product is used outdoors, with aquariums, or other water-related applications (indoor/dry locations only).

The Connected Device Warranty does not cover acts of God (other than lightning) such as flood, earthquake, war, vandalism, theft, normal wear and tear, obsolescence, low-voltage disturbances (brownouts/sags), or unauthorized system modification.

Making a Warranty Claim

Go to www.tricklestar.com to print a claim form and email it to warranty@tricklestar.com. Include: the product part number; a list of devices connected at the time of the occurrence; a list of devices damaged and extent of damage; the date of the occurrence; where and when you purchased the product; and a copy of the original receipt. Claims must be made within 15 days of the occurrence. Warranty is valid in USA and Canada only.
