    Installation instructions for the 2GIG-CO3-345 Wireless Carbon Monoxide Alarm — a 3V battery-powered wireless CO detector for use with 2GIG wireless alarm systems, sending alarm, tamper, and battery condition messages to the Control Panel.

    Overview

    The detector uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor coupled to a wireless transmitter. This detector must be tested and maintained regularly following NFPA 720 requirements. It is designed to protect against the acute effects of carbon monoxide exposure but will not fully safeguard individuals with specific medical conditions — consult a medical practitioner if in doubt. This alarm is intended for ordinary indoor residential areas only and is not designed to meet OSHA commercial/industrial compliance standards.

    During initial power-up, the LED blinks alternately green/yellow/red; the CO sensor takes about 60 seconds to stabilize. After 12 hours of a trouble/end-of-life condition, the panel displays a loss-of-supervision message. Detector lifespan is 5 years from date of manufacture.

    Inserting and Replacing Batteries

    1. Remove the detector from its mounting base by twisting counterclockwise. Remove and dispose of the old battery per local regulations.
    2. Wait a minimum of 20 seconds before installing the new battery (ensures proper power-down sequence).
    3. Install a new 3-volt CR123A Panasonic Lithium battery, following the polarity diagram inside the compartment.
    4. Reinstall onto the mounting base by turning the detector clockwise.
    5. After power-up, the green LED should blink about once every 12 seconds for normal operation. If it doesn't power up, check for a fully charged battery.

    Note: Constant exposure to high/low temperatures or high humidity may reduce battery life.

    Programming Into the 2GIG Control Panel

    Steps for learning the Wireless Carbon Monoxide Alarm (2GIG-CO3-345) into the panel (scroll with ← / → arrows, move between prompts with ↑ / ↓):

    1. Select RF sensor # (01–48) — assign to a new zone.
    2. Select RF sensor type: (14) 24-hour Carbon Monoxide Alarm.
    3. Select RF equipment type.
    4. Select RF sensor equipment code: enter 0859 (Canada) or 0860 (U.S.A.).
    5. Enter the 7-digit RF sensor serial number. Manual entry: type the last 7 digits of the TX ID found outside the box or on the bottom of the head unit. Auto entry: in Learn-in mode (Shift then Learn), cause a tamper by twisting the base counterclockwise and removing it — the correct TX ID appears; press OK to accept.
    6. Select RF sensor equipment age: (0) new or (1) existing.
    7. Select RF sensor loop number: (1).
    8. Select RF sensor 1 dialer delay: (0) disabled — this alarm type should never have a dialer delay.
    9. Construct RF sensor descriptor — e.g., press Insert then 032 for "CARBON", Insert then 005 for "MONOXIDE"/"ALARM".
    10. Select RF sensor reports: (1) enabled — reports to the central station.
    11. Select RF sensor supervised: (1) enabled — reports loss of supervision or low battery.
    12. Select RF sensor chime: (0) disabled.
    13. Click Next to program another sensor, or Skip → End → Exit to finish (panel resets after a few seconds).

    Important: Per NFPA 720 section 5.3.7.2, this CO detector must not be connected to a fire/smoke-alarm zone — program it as a non-fire zone.

    Installing and Mounting

    Proper Location

    Wall-mounted detectors should be positioned at least as high as a light switch and at least 6 inches (15cm) from the ceiling. Ceiling-mounted detectors should be at least 12 inches (30cm) from any wall.

    Ideal Locations

    • Within 10 feet (3m) of a sleeping area
    • Inside a bedroom containing a fuel-burning appliance
    • On every floor of the building
    • In any room containing a fuel-burning appliance
    • Just outside infrequently-used rooms (e.g., boiler room) so the alarm can be heard more easily

    Locations to Avoid

    • Directly above a sink, cooker, stove, or oven
    • Within 5 feet (1.5m) of any cooking appliance
    • Next to a door/window affected by drafts, an extractor fan, or air vent
    • Outdoors
    • Environments that don't comply with the detector's specifications
    • In or below a cupboard
    • Where airflow is obstructed by curtains or furniture
    • Where dirt/dust could collect and block the sensor
    • Where it could be knocked, damaged, or accidentally removed

    Mounting Steps

    1. Install the mounting base on the ceiling or wall (if local ordinances permit) using the two provided screws and anchors, positioned at the elbow of the screw slots.
    2. Fit the detector inside the base, aligning it so the alignment notch is slightly offset from the mounting base's tamper release tab.
    3. Test the detector after installation (see Testing below). WARNING: Do not attach the detector to removable ceiling panels.
    4. Place the two provided warning labels — one next to the CO detector, and one near a source of fresh air where household members will gather if the alarm sounds.

    Construction warning: Remove detectors before beginning construction or any dust-producing activity — airborne dust can enter and damage the detector. Do not use with detector guards unless the combination has been evaluated as suitable.

    Tamper Protection

    A tamper alert displays at the panel if the built-in tamper switch is disengaged from the mounting base. To engage tamper resistance, cut the small plastic tab on the mounting base before installing the detector. To remove a tamper-resistant detector, use a screwdriver to depress the square tamper release tab on the base's skirt while turning the detector counterclockwise.

    Testing the Detector

    Notify the central monitoring station before testing to prevent unwanted alarms. Testing triggers a real alarm signal to the panel and cannot be used if the detector is in a trouble or end-of-life condition. Detectors must be tested after installation and during periodic maintenance.

    1. Locate the test button on the detector housing.
    2. Push and hold for a minimum of 5 seconds. The panel triggers, the detector alarms (temporal 4 sounder pattern, red LED blinking), and the panel displays the detector's name in alarm.

    Replacing the Detector

    The CO sensor loses sensitivity over its 5-year lifespan and must eventually be replaced. Removing the detector from its base sends a Tamper message to the central monitoring station; reaching end-of-life also triggers a trouble condition. Before replacing: notify the monitoring station, disable the zone/system from the Control Panel to prevent unwanted alarms, then dispose of the old detector per local regulations. The Replacement Date printed on the device is the date beyond which it may no longer detect CO accurately.

    Carbon Monoxide Safety Information

    CO is a highly poisonous, invisible, odorless gas released when fuels are burned. This device only indicates CO presence at the sensor location — CO gas may be present in other areas. It is designed to detect CO from any combustion source, not smoke or other gases, and is not a substitute for proper installation, use, and maintenance of fuel-burning appliances (including ventilation/exhaust).

    Conditions That Can Cause Dangerous CO Situations

    • Excessive spillage or reverse venting from outdoor wind conditions, negative pressure from exhaust fans, multiple appliances competing for air, loose vent connections, obstructions, or poor chimney/vent design or maintenance
    • Extended operation of unvented fuel-burning devices (range, oven, fireplace, etc.)
    • Temperature inversions trapping exhaust gases near the ground
    • A car idling in an attached garage or near a home

    CO Poisoning Symptoms

    • Mild: headache, runny nose, sore eyes ("flu-like")
    • Medium: dizziness, drowsiness, vomiting
    • Extreme: unconsciousness, brain damage, death

    Young children and pets may be affected first. Victims often become too disoriented to exit the building or call for help on their own.

    If the Alarm Sounds (4 beeps)

    1. Push the hush/test button.
    2. Immediately move to fresh air (outdoors or next to an open window).
    3. Check that all persons in the area are accounted for.
    4. Do not re-enter until emergency responders arrive and the premises are aired out and the alarm shows normal.
    5. Call emergency services, the fire department, or 911.
    6. A single chirp indicates a service condition — check the service section to correct.
    7. If the alarm reactivates within 24 hours, repeat steps 1–6 and have a qualified technician investigate for CO sources and inspect the detector.
