    Quick reference guide for the Speco Technologies D12LX and D20LX series DVRs — covering EZ Setup, EZ Record, EZ Network, system settings, record setup, playback/search, and more.

    EZ Setup

    Go to System > General > EZ Setup to display the EZ Setup screen (accessible only when logged in as admin). Select either EZ Record or EZ Network and select Next to start the chosen setup wizard.

    EZ Record

    1. Selecting EZ Record and Next starts the EZ Record wizard.
    2. Set the system date/time and date/time format.
    3. Set the time zone (selectable on a map).
    4. Set whether to use Daylight Saving Time.
    5. Select the desired recording mode: Motion Event Record, Continuous & Motion Event Record, or Continuous Record.
    6. Select the desired video quality profile: HVQPP, SRP, or LRTPP (see below).
    7. Select Finish to complete EZ Record, then optionally continue to EZ Network.

    Video Quality Profiles

    • HVQPP (High Video Quality Priority Profile, Very High D1/960H resolution): 30.00 ips @ D1/960H for Time Record and Post-Event Record.
    • SRP (Standard Recording Profile, High 2CIF/H960H resolution): 5.00 ips @ 2CIF/H960H for Time Record, 30.00 ips @ D1/960H for Post-Event Record.
    • LRTPP (Longer Recording Time Priority Profile, Standard CIF/Q960H resolution): 3.00 ips @ CIF/Q960H for Time Record, 5.00 ips @ 2CIF/H960H for Post-Event Record.

    EZ Network

    1. Selecting Go to EZ Network and Next starts the EZ Network wizard.
    2. Select whether the DVR is connected to the Internet.
    3. Select Auto Configuration or Manual Configuration for network setup.
    4. Select Test to verify the network configuration — the configuration must pass the Test before Next becomes selectable.
    5. Set the DVR to use the DVRNS service, if desired.
    6. Enter the DVR name to register on the DVRNS server, then select Test to confirm the name is available.
    7. Select Finish to complete EZ Setup.

    System Settings — First Power-On

    After connecting the power cord, the unit is operational in 60 seconds. Note: there is no record button on the unit — use the Record Setup section for proper record settings. Press MENU, select Setup in the Live Monitoring menu, and enter the password (there is no default password on first login — setting one is strongly recommended for security).

    Front and Rear Panel Controls

    Front panel: Power LED, HDD LED, Camera Buttons, Menu Button, Copy Button, Esc Button, Play/Stop Button, Alarm Button, Sequence Button, PTZ Button, Mode Button, Arrow Buttons, Enter Button, Jog Dial, Shuttle Ring, USB Port.

    Rear panel: Video Input, Video Loop Through, eSATA Port, Network Port, Video Out, Alarm In/Out, RS232 Port, Factory Reset Switch, RS485 Port, Audio In/Out, Power Cord Connector.

    System Menu Overview

    Top-level menu categories: System, Record, Event, Network, Device, Display, Status, Camera.

    • System > General: configure general info, view system log, clear data, run setup wizard, shut down.
    • System > Date/Time: set date and time.
    • System > User: add/delete groups and users.
    • System > Storage: view DVR storage device info.
    • System > Monitoring: check system events and set DVR actions on events.
    • System > Capacity Estimator: calculate recordable time.

    Record Setup

    • Record > General: configure recording settings, toggle Recycle mode (on = overwrite oldest footage when storage fills; off = stop recording when full).
    • Enable Panic Recording and set its duration, images-per-second, and quality.
    • Record > Schedule: program recording by time, day of week, and holidays. Choose Simple or Advanced schedule mode. Panic recording still works even with Schedule off.
    • Record > Pre-Event: turn pre-event recording on/off per camera, and set image speed/quality/resolution/dwell time. Ignored when in Time or Time & Event mode.
    • Record > Archive: set archiving schedule and data ranges (requires a configured storage device).

    Event Setup

    Go to Event > Motion, Alarm-In, Video Loss, Video Blind, Text-In, Network to configure each event type and the DVR's response actions.

    Network Setup

    • Network > General: set remote-watch transfer conditions, bandwidth limits, and Speco Remote service.
    • Network > IP Address: select network configuration type and LAN parameters.
    • Network > DVRNS and RTSP: configure DVRNS and RTSP (Real-Time Streaming Protocol).
    • Network > Notification: configure contacting Speco Central (Remote Administration System), sending email, or posting to social media (SNS) on events.

    SNS (Social Network Service) Notification Setup

    1. Go to Network > Notification to add/edit notification schedules and SNS accounts.
    2. To add a notification schedule, highlight the "+" under the Schedule list.
    3. To add an SNS account, highlight SNS Setup, then highlight "+" to add an account.
    4. Toggle SNS accounts on/off via the "No." column.
    5. Set the Type to TWITTER to post a tweet when an event occurs.
    6. Set the account User Name/Password.

    Device Setup

    • Device > Audio and Network Audio: local and network audio in/out.
    • Device > Digital Deterrent: sound alerts on detected events.
    • Device > Alarm-Out: configure alarm output settings and schedules.
    • Device > Remote Control: configure a remote keyboard.

    Camera and Display Setup

    • Camera > General: turn cameras on/off, rename, and choose which monitors display them.
    • Camera > PTZ: configure PTZ cameras.
    • Camera > Network Camera: scan and configure network devices.
    • Display > OSD: select on-screen display information.
    • Display > Primary Monitor and Spot Monitor: configure each monitor.

    Playback and Search

    1. Press PLAY/STOP to enter Playback mode (requires Search authority to view recorded images).
    2. Press MENU in Search mode to open the Search Menu; select a search type with the arrow buttons.

    Search Types

    • Event Search (Search > Event Log Search, Motion Search, Text-In Search): browse and filter the event log list; select an event to play its video segment.
    • Go To Search (Search > Go To): jump to first recorded image, last recorded image, or a specific date/time.
    • EZ Search (Search > EZ Search): plays back in a 4x4 display starting at the first recorded image, with three precision levels — Day, Hour, Minute.
    • Record Table Search (Search > Record Table Search): shows recording status on a timeline bar. Compact, Standard, and Expanded views available; toggling icons switch between an 8-hour (1-minute) view and 24-hour (3-minute) view; a Calendar Search screen is also accessible.

    Clip Copy

    The Clip-Copy screen lets you copy video to an internal DVD-RW, external USB hard disk, or flash drive — simply press the COPY button.

    Status Setup

    • Status > Event: displays the status of DVR systems and inputs.
    • Status > Storage: displays the status of DVR storage devices.
