Operating instructions for the Somfy Universal RTS Interface II (URTSI II, 1810872) — bridging home automation/third-party systems with Somfy RTS motors via IR, RS232, or RS485.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Operating instructions for the Somfy Universal RTS Interface II (URTSI II, part number 1810872) — an addressable interface that bridges home automation/third-party systems with Somfy RTS motors and controls.

    Description

The URTSI II lets home automation or other third-party systems communicate with Somfy's RTS motors and controls. It supports individual or group control and can be operated via infrared remote, RS232, or RS485 serial communication. When an input is activated, an RTS radio command is sent to the automated window treatment.

    Connections (Rear of Control Box)

    • Antenna — do not remove; if replacement is needed, order it from Somfy to maintain FCC compliance.
    • IR Sensor input
    • RS232 or RS485 input
    • RS485 input/output
    • Power input (9V DC transformer, included)

RS232/RS485 pin-out (8-pin, tab-side down): Pin 1 = RS485 A, Pin 2 = RS485 B, Pin 3 = RS232 TX, Pin 4 = Bus power supply, Pin 8 = Common / RS232 RX. As an option, power to the URTSI II can be supplied on leads 4 & 5 instead of the plug-in transformer, and can be daisy-chained to the next URTSI II over the CAT5 cable — size the power supply based on the number of interfaces on the network segment.

    IR sensor pin-out (4-pin, tab-side down): Pin 1 = N/C, Pin 4 = IR Signal / Common / +5V DC.

Front panel: UP, STOP, and DOWN buttons; a Power/Transmit LED; a URTSI Address/RTS Channel rotary switch; and a Program button.

    A. Initial Setup

    1. Connect the included 9V DC transformer to the receptacle on the back of the control box. The LED lights green to indicate power.
    2. Avoid mounting or enclosing the interface on or in metal — this can affect radio reception.
    3. Set the RTS receiver or motor into its Programming Mode (refer to that product's own installation instructions). For initial programming, provide power only to the motor or control being programmed.
    4. Using the rotary switch, select the channel to program. Letters A–F represent channels 10–15, and 0 represents channel 16. Briefly press the programming button (1 second max) — the window treatment jogs to confirm the channel has been memorized.
    5. Repeat for each channel/product to be memorized, up to 16 total.
    6. To test, press the UP, STOP, or DOWN buttons on the front of the control — the window treatment should move accordingly, and the LED flashes red to indicate a radio signal was transmitted.

    B. Infrared Operation

    1. The interface is compatible with Somfy's multichannel transmitter. Connect an infrared sensor to the appropriate connector on the back of the interface.
    2. To activate an individual motor, aim the transmitter at the sensor, press the desired unit number on the transmitter, then press UP or DOWN. Press the center button to STOP the window treatment at any time.
    3. The infrared channel stays active for 3 minutes; after that, it must be reselected.

    C. RS232 Operation

    • Communication settings: 9600 Baud, 8 Data Bits, 1 Stop Bit, No Parity.
    • Set the rotary switch to position 1.
    • Command format: URTSI_ADDR MOTOR_CHAN DIR — URTSI II address is always 01; motor channel is 2 digits (01–16); direction commands are capital letters U (Up), D (Down), S (Stop).

    Examples:

    • Motor 1 UP: 0101U
    • Motor 5 DOWN: 0105D
    • Motor 12 STOP: 0112S

    D. RS485 Operation

    • Communication settings: 9600 Baud, 8 Data Bits, 1 Stop Bit, No Parity.
    • Up to 16 Universal RTS Interfaces can be connected on one RS485 network, each with its own address. Set the rotary switch to the desired address (letters A–F = addresses 10–15, 0 = address 16).
    • Command format: URTSI_ADDR MOTOR_CHAN DIR — both the URTSI II address and motor channel are 2 digits (01–16); direction commands are capital letters U (Up), D (Down), S (Stop).

    Examples:

    • URTSI 1, Motor 1 UP: 0101U
    • URTSI 3, Motor 12 DOWN: 0312D
    • URTSI 14, Motor 9 STOP: 1409S
    • URTSI 10, Motor 15 UP: 1015U
