Skylink KN-318 — Garage Door Keypad Remote Control Manual

User manual for the Skylink® KN-318 Garage Door Remote Control — a wireless keypad transmitter that works with Skylink garage door receivers, including the Smart Button™, EQ Garage Door Opener, and IQ Garage Door Opener.

Operating Modes

Single Door (Factory Default)

The KN-318 operates a single Skylink garage door opener or Smart Button receiver out of the box — no setup required beyond programming the keypad to the receiver (see Programming below).

Multiple Doors (Up to 4)

The keypad can control up to 4 different garage door openers or Smart Button receivers. To enable Multiple-Door Operating Mode:

1. Enter the current password (factory default 0000), then press [*].
2. Press [9][#] — 2 beeps confirm the mode is enabled.

To disable Multiple-Door Mode: enter the password, press [*], then [0][#] (2 beeps confirm).

Once enabled, operate any of the 4 doors: [Password][#][Door Number] (Door Number = 1, 2, 3, or 4).

Programming the Keypad to a Receiver

Program to Smart Button™

1. With Smart Button™ connected to your existing wall button, confirm the red light is flashing slowly (standby mode).
2. Press the learn button on the side of the Smart Button™.
3. The red LED flashes quickly — release the learn button.
4. Within 5 seconds, enter the default PIN [0000][#] (or [0000][#][Door Number] for multi-door) on the keypad.
5. Once programmed, the red LED returns to slow-flash standby mode.

Program to EQ Garage Door Opener

1. Press the "Learn" button on the EQ opener — the yellow LED flashes for 30 seconds.
2. Within that window, activate the keypad: [0000][#] for single door, or [0000][#][Door Number] for multi-door.
3. The yellow LED turns off once programming succeeds.

Program to IQ Garage Door Opener

1. Press and hold PROG on the LCD Wall Console for 10 seconds until "PROG" appears.
2. Press PROG again until the remote-icon screen appears.
3. Activate the keypad transmitter (same PIN sequence as above). The remote icon stays on to confirm.
4. To add another remote, press the up button — the icon flashes again for additional programming.

Installation

Mount the keypad transmitter at the desired location using the provided screws. Undo the screw at the bottom of the case, remove the back cover, secure the back cover to the wall, then re-attach the keypad body and tighten the bottom screw.

Changing the PIN

1. Enter the current PIN (factory default 0000), press *.
2. Enter a new 2–8 digit PIN, press *.
3. Re-enter the new PIN, press *.

Example: changing from 0000 to 123456 → 0000, *, 123456, *, 123456, *. Three beeps confirm success; a long error beep means mismatch — start over.

Removing a Keypad from a Receiver

Refer to the receiver's own manual to erase a programmed keypad transmitter.

Battery

Requires one 1.5V AAA alkaline battery. Replace when the keypad backlight no longer appears.

Troubleshooting

Safety Warning

Do not let children use the garage door transmitter without adult supervision — children can injure themselves or others with a moving garage door.

Operation is subject to: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) it must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the responsible party could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.

Warranty

One-year limited warranty from date of purchase against defects in workmanship or materials — repair or replacement without charge. Proof of purchase and a Return Authorization are required.
