Specifications and description for the Simply Automated UFR-V0 Anywhere Virtual Fixture (Relay) Module — a wired-in 12 Amp relay module for remote control of lighting, appliances, transformers, and fan/pump motors via the Anywhere powerline communication system.

    Description

The Model UFR-V0 Anywhere Virtual Fixture (Relay) Module is a professional-grade, wire-in relay module delivering up to 12 Amps of 120VAC power. It has been used for years in tens of thousands of applications. It is remotely controlled by one or more Anywhere Switches (model V3WAY-A or US1-V0) and can be automatically or manually controlled with the Scheduler-Timer (model UCS). The UFR-V0 is one of a series of compatible accessories to the Anywhere Virtual Accessory Switch (US1-V0), which also include controlled receptacles (URD-V0) and the plug-in appliance relay module (UMA-V0).

The UFR-V0 is typically used to conveniently add secondary lighting or load control. When a standard mechanical wall switch is replaced with the Anywhere Switch (US1-V0), the switch controls the existing wired primary lighting circuit (1W min., 900W max.) as well as the fixture module or any number of Anywhere accessories. As many UFR-V0 units as desired can be added, and there are 4 channels available for separately controlled lighting zones.

The most popular application is adding controlled lighting circuits when remodeling a kitchen, bathroom, or garage/workshop. It can also connect to receptacles for automatic control of landscape water features, lighting transformers, and holiday lighting on a schedule with the UCS Scheduler-Timer.

    Features / Benefits

    • Remote lighting control anywhere on the property — simple, cost-effective alternative to running new wires
    • Controlled by Anywhere Virtual Accessory Switch (US1-V0) or Scheduler-Timer (UCS)
    • Easily changed to any one of 4 channels; no limit to the number of modules on a channel
    • Communicates over 1000 feet and between 2 split phases; no traveler wires or batteries required
    • No programming required — press/hold the button to change channels, then tap in the channel number (1–4) when the LED flashes
    • Controls incandescent, fluorescent, halogen, LED, magnetic and electronic low-voltage lighting transformers & ballasts
    • Can remotely control room, basement, garage, barn, driveway, pathway, security, yard and dock lighting, as well as motors, pumps, fans and appliances up to 12 Amps

Compatibility note: The Anywhere Fixture Module is compatible with Simply Automated's "Anywhere" switches, accessories, and the Scheduler-Timer (UCS). It is not compatible with any of Simply Automated's PC-Configured, Pre-Configured, SimplySmart™, or other UPB/UPStart configured product solutions.

    Installation

The UFR-V0 and all electrically wired devices should be installed by a qualified electrician following the installation instructions in the User Guide.

    1. Before installing in a junction box, wire-nut power to the module (hot and neutral connections required).
    2. Connect the light/load circuits that need to be controlled to the output (brown) load wire.
    3. Replace an existing light switch with the Anywhere Virtual Accessory Switch, model US1-V0 (hot and neutral wire required).
    4. Press the top of the US1 switch rocker to turn on the switch's wired load and the UFR at the same time; press the bottom to turn both off.
    5. If more UFRs need to be controlled by the same US1-V0, wire them in together.
    6. For separate control of a second, third, or fourth set of US1-V0 and UFR-V0, select a different channel: press and hold the rocker on the US1 or button on the UFR-V0 until the LED flashes green, then tap the rocker/button 2, 3, or 4 times to choose channel 2, 3, or 4. Factory default is channel 1.

The UFR-V0 mounts in any standard junction box; mounting ears can be broken away for a tighter fit.

    Using the Scheduler-Timer

The Scheduler-Timer (UCS) can turn the UFR's channels on/off based on day of week, time of day, sunrise, and sunset — four zones of lighting can be automatically and simultaneously controlled using the 4 available communication channels. The Scheduler-Timer maintains event time (using zip code or lat/long to calculate sunrise/sunset, plus a real-time clock) even through power outages (up to one week) or daylight-savings changes, so once set it never needs seasonal readjustment.

To use the Scheduler-Timer for channel control: set the time, date, day of week, location (zip code), and network number to 249. Then set event times for channel 1 (or all 4) using the 'LA' event mode. Channels can still be controlled manually via the Scheduler-Timer or Anywhere Virtual Accessory Switches at any time.

Circuit Requirements (Anywhere Switch / Accessory System)

    • Hot and neutral (black/white) power connections are required at US1-V0 switch locations.
    • Controls incandescent, fluorescent, halogen, LED, magnetic and electronic low-voltage lighting transformers & ballasts (1W min., 900W max.). Ballasts for 120VAC metal-halide or mercury/sodium fixtures may need isolation (see model ZNF10A). Controls 120VAC/60Hz motors up to 7.5A max.
    • Up to 4 sets of Anywhere switches or accessory modules can be used in the home, using the 4 available communication channels; any number of accessory modules and switches can be added to each channel.
    • Best installation: both switches/modules on the same circuit (breaker). Better: on different breakers of the same phase. Good: on different phase circuits with a phase coupler (model ZPCI) connected between phases A & B — especially recommended for homes greater than 2500 sq. ft. or where circuits are on opposite phases in different panels.
    • Do not use in 3-phase (commercial/condo) power applications unless switches are on the same breaker or phase.

    Reliability

The Anywhere Series uses Simply Automated's advanced powerline communication technology, which has no RF emissions and has been used reliably in tens of thousands of homes without adverse effects on appliances, stereo equipment, ham radios, cordless phones, wireless modems, or other home automation technology (unlike less reliable X10 systems). The technology has even been employed in freeway bridge applications spanning over a mile.
