Installation and user manual for the Simply Automated Anywhere Virtual Accessory Switch (4-Rocker), Model US2-V04, used to add 4-way remote lighting control or virtual remote lighting/appliance control to Anywhere Virtual Remote Lighting Control accessories.

Overview

The US2-V04 replaces an existing mechanical switch and uses the existing switch wires (a white neutral wire is required) to provide virtual 3-way remote control — no traveler wires or batteries needed. It remotely controls lighting and loads connected to other Anywhere Switches (US1-V0, US2-V0, V3WAY-A or -B), controlled receptacles (URD-V0), plug-in relays (UMA-V0), and wire-in relay modules (UFR-V0). It also works with the Anywhere Scheduler-Timer (UCS-V0) for automatic control and expanded functionality.

Channel Behavior

The top-left rocker controls the 900W output load wire and any number of Anywhere devices on channel #2 (e.g. another US2-V0). Other rockers control any number of Anywhere devices on channel 1 (bottom-left), channel 3 (top-right), and channel 4 (bottom-right). These transmit channels are fixed and cannot be changed, though the faceplate can be swapped from 2-rocker to 3- or 4-rocker (see faceplate models ZS23 and ZS24) for control of up to 4 lighting zones. Using the Scheduler-Timer (model UCS-V0), the US2-V0 switch and other Anywhere devices can be set to receive 4 separate channels, allowing an "All On/Off" channel plus a separate channel for manual or scheduled/timed control (8 channels are available).

The switch has thermal overload protection — it will cycle off if it gets too hot, helping prevent accidental overload; an overloaded switch cycles off/on/off/on until turned off or the load is reduced to within specifications.

The Anywhere product line uses Simply Automated's powerline communication technology — safe and reliable, with no RF emissions, used in tens of thousands of homes with no adverse effects on appliances, stereo equipment, ham radios, cordless phones, wireless devices, or other automation technology (unlike the less reliable X10). Note: "Anywhere" switches/accessories are NOT compatible with Simply Automated's PC-Configured, Pre-Configured, SimplySmart™, or other UPB/UPStart configured products.

Important Safety Instructions

• DO NOT WIRE HOT! Permanent damage may result. Improper installation voids the warranty. If necessary, pull out the LED indicator light-pipe (1/4 inch) to disconnect power and avoid damage.
• Read and follow all safety instructions.
• Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician.
• Keep away from water. If the product contacts water or another liquid, disconnect immediately.
• Never use products that have been dropped or damaged.
• Do not use outdoors unless protected from moisture.
• Do not use for other than its intended use.
• Do not connect multiple lamps that, combined, exceed the maximum load rating, de-rated for multi-gang boxes (see de-rating table below).
• Do not install in areas that can exceed 120°F (e.g. an attic).
• To avoid overheating and damage to other equipment, do not wire this product directly to a receptacle — use model URD-V0 Controlled Receptacle instead.
• Do not cover the product with any material when in use.

CAUTION: Do not wire this device with power connected. Injury or permanent damage to the device may result.

De-Rating Table — Power per Dimmer by Number of US1/US2 Switches in J-Box

Installation Steps

1. Locate the existing wall switch where the Anywhere Virtual Accessory Switch will be installed. The connected lamp rating (or combined rating of all connected lamps/loads) must not exceed the de-rating table above.
2. Disconnect power at the circuit breaker for the switch circuit.
3. Remove the existing wall switch and disconnect its wires.
4. If using a color/rocker change kit, see "Installing/Changing Faceplates" below.
5. At the switch location, use a wire nut to connect all white (Neutral) wires together — tight and strong for good communication between switches and accessories.
6. Use a wire nut to connect the brown (load output) wire of the switch to the black wire of the load/fixture to be controlled. If no local load is needed, cap the unused brown wire.
7. Use a wire nut to connect the black (Line) wire of the switch to the black (Line) power wire — tight and strong for good communication.
8. Mount the switch inside its J-box using the captive screws — do not over-tighten.
9. Reconnect power at the circuit breakers.
10. Top-Rocker: Press/release top to turn on switch + channel #2 accessories; press/release bottom to turn off.
11. Other Rockers: Press/release top of the rocker to turn on accessories on channel 1, 3, or 4 (per wiring diagram); press/release bottom to turn off.

Power Disconnection

To disconnect power to the switch and connected lamp fixture: depress the top of the rocker switch, grab the underside of the clear plastic indicator tab (light pipe) with a fingernail, and pull the tab out about 0.2" until it stays in place — the LED extinguishes, showing power is disconnected. To reconnect, push the tab back into its normal position. Use this disconnect to prevent damage if the switch must be wired hot.

Changing Channels

If separate lighting "zones" or "sets" of Anywhere devices will be used on the property's power service, that set needs to be configured for a channel other than #2 (the US2-V0 local load). The US2-V04 rocker channels themselves are fixed and cannot be changed, but there are four available channels for other Anywhere devices (US1-V0, UMA-V0, UFR-V0, URD-V0) — refer to that device's User Guide to change its channel.

Factory Default Settings

To restore the switch to factory default (responding to channel #2 only): tap the rocker 5 times quickly (LED flashes green), then tap 10 times quickly (LED flashes blue), then tap 2 times quickly and the LED stops flashing — the switch is reset.

Installing/Changing Faceplates

Anywhere Switches use removable actuator faceplates, allowing color changes in the field without disconnecting the switch from the wall.

To remove: Remove the wall plate (if installed in a junction box). Using thumb and index finger, press the top two side-prongs of the rocker faceplate assembly inward to unlatch from the switch body, releasing the top of the rocker assembly. Press the two lower side-prongs inward and pull the faceplate assembly away and slightly downward, away from the clear plastic light pipe.

To install: Hold the actuator faceplate assembly so the clear plastic light pipe (LED) on the switch fits into the recess on top of the faceplate. Align the four prongs on the side of the faceplate assembly with the four slots on the switch body. While squeezing the prongs on both sides, press the faceplate straight onto the switch body, ensuring all four prongs are fully inserted and latched. Exercise the rocker several times to confirm proper seating and operation — if it doesn't operate properly, remove and reinstall the faceplate.

Troubleshooting

Simply Automated's powerline technology uses large low-frequency pulses in a patented pulse position modulation protocol that overcomes power line noise and capacitive attenuation in most (98%) applications. If the switch and accessories are set for the same channel but not communicating:

1. Confirm LED indicators are lit on both switches (powered). If not, check the Power Disconnect (LED light pipe) is pressed in, and check hot/neutral wire-nut connections and circuit breaker state.
2. Confirm both switches' LEDs change from blue to green when turning on. If not, recheck hot/neutral wire-nut connections. If yes, check the brown load wire connection to the fixture's switch leg, and the light fixture/bulb itself — a volt meter or power indicator probe helps confirm switch leg power vs. bulb/fixture fault.

If devices still don't control each other, double-check they're on the same channel (try resetting to factory default), or check for a phase alignment issue — swap breakers/wires so both switches are on the same phase, or install a phase coupler (model ZPCI).
