    Installation manual for the SECO-LARM SD-998C-D3Q / SD-998C-D3AQ Surface-Mount Electric Rim Strikes — designed for use with rim-type exit devices with a Pullman latch bolt, eliminating the need for frame cutting during installation.

    Parts List

    Strike, blind nut kit (2 blind nuts), hex wrench, 2 hex socket head cap screws, 2 Philips flat head screws, manual, 2 crimp connectors, dead latch ramp adapter, 12VDC cable connector, 24VDC cable connector, and spacers (3× 1/32" for D3Q only; 1× 1/16" + 2× 1/8" for D3AQ only). Not all parts are used in every installation.

    Installation

    1. Set fail-safe or fail-secure operation first (see below).
    2. Measure the center line of the latch ("Y").
    3. With the door closed, measure and mark the latch line on the door frame ("X") — this corresponds to the inside of the strike keeper.
    4. Remove the four cover screws and remove the cover.
    5. Using the strike as a template centered on latch center line "Y," with the inside of the strike keeper aligned to door latch line "X," mark and drill the two outer mounting holes plus the cable access hole.
    6. Make wire connections (see Wiring Diagram below), then mount the strike to the frame with the Philips flat-head screws. Check that the door latches properly and adjust the strike horizontally as needed.
    7. Tighten the two mounting screws and mark the two inner (locking) hole locations.
    8. Remove the strike and drill the two locking holes. Insert the blind nuts. Reinstall the strike and lock into place with the hex socket head cap screws into the blind nuts.
    9. Replace the cover and reinstall the screws.

    Selecting Fail-Safe / Fail-Secure

    1. Remove both locking screws (#1).
    2. Loosen both sliding screws (#2), slide to the desired fail-safe or fail-secure position (fail-secure is factory default), and retighten.
    3. Reinsert and tighten locking screws (#1) to lock in the desired setting.

    Wiring Diagram

    • 12VDC operation: Use the wiring connector marked "12VDC." Plug the male connector into the female wiring harness connector of the door strike.
    • 24VDC operation: Use the wiring connector marked "24VDC." Plug the male connector into the female wiring harness connector of the door strike.
    • The strike's internal harness has Black, Red, and White wires that mate with the appropriate 12V or 24V connector.

    Dead Latch Ramp Adapter Installation

    1. Remove the cover (4 screws).
    2. Remove the 2 screws holding the latch ramp and remove it.
    3. Install the Dead Latch Ramp Adapter and replace the 2 screws to hold it in place.
    4. Replace the cover and its 4 screws.

    Troubleshooting

    Symptom Fix
    Electric strike does not activate Dismount and check the wiring connector is properly seated. Confirm the connector matches a 12V or 24V source. Use a multimeter to verify proper voltage/amperage — heavier gauge wire or a higher-output power supply may be needed. Confirm the activation device (keypad/push-button) works.
    Door doesn't open when strike is activated Check that the door latch operates properly, replace if necessary. The strike's position may need adjustment (moving it or adding washers/shims).
    Strike makes a buzzing sound Connect the strike to a DC power supply (buzzing typically indicates an AC source is being used incorrectly).

    Warranty

    Warranted against defects in material and workmanship for five (5) years from the date of sale to the original customer under normal service. SECO-LARM's obligation is limited to repair or replacement of the defective part, transportation prepaid to SECO-LARM.
