    Installation manual for the SECO-LARM ENFORCER E-942FC-1300 Electromagnetic Gate Lock — a 1,300 lb holding-force magnetic lock for outdoor sliding and swinging gates.

    Specifications

    Mounting the E-942FC-1300

    A. Determine Gate Type

    • Single-swing gate — swings on one end, resting on a fixed post when closed. Typically, the electromagnet mounts to the gate post and the armature connects to the gate's free end with a Z-bracket.
    • Double-swing gate — two gates swing the same direction. Electromagnet mounts to the free end of one gate, armature to the free end of the other via a Z-bracket. Add a cover piece to the Z-bracket over the electromagnet to prevent prying; the armature-side gate should open before the electromagnet-side gate.
    • Sliding gate — gate slides rather than swings. Use L-brackets to mount the electromagnet and armature perpendicular to each other.

    B. Mount the Electromagnet

    Position determines the armature location; ensure space for cable routing. For hollow door headers or gate posts (using blind nuts):

    1. Tape the template to the mounting location.
    2. Drill four 9.5mm holes (must be exactly 9.5mm).
    3. Insert a blind nut in one hole, place the washer on the M6x30 screw, turn by hand into the blind nut using the hex tool.
    4. Hold the hex tool with a wrench/vice-grip and use the Allen wrench to tighten until the screw won't turn further, compressing the blind nut permanently in place.
    5. Remove the screw and repeat for the other three blind nuts.
    6. Push hex screws into each of the four holes in the electromagnet and tighten with the Allen wrench.

    C. Mount the Armature

    1. Place one rubber washer between two steel washers on the armature screw, allowing slight pivot to compensate for gate misalignment.
    2. Insert guide pins into guide holes to prevent the armature from spinning.
    3. Tighten the sexnut enough to withstand prying force while the electromagnet is engaged.
    4. Do not tighten the armature against the bracket — it must be able to pivot around the armature screw.

    D–H. Finishing Steps

    • Cover the installation with a steel box for appearance and tamper resistance.
    • Run wires into an out-of-sight location, using standard armored cable to prevent cutting.
    • 12V wiring: red and white wires to +12VDC, black and green to ground. 24V wiring: red to +24VDC, green to ground, tie white and black together and insulate.
    • Test the unit, then insert tamper caps into the mounting screw access holes last (they are difficult to remove once installed).

    Note: when using the optional Z-bracket, do not use the door spacer or sexnut bolt — replace the armature screw with the short one included with the bracket, or cover the exposed end with a nut.

    Troubleshooting

    Problem Possible Cause Solution
    Gate does not lock No power Check wire security, power supply connection/operation, and correct wiring.
    Gate locks, but can be easily forced open Poor contact between electromagnet and armature, or incorrect voltage Verify alignment and clean contact surfaces; check voltage with a meter.
    Delay in gate releasing A secondary diode was installed across the electromagnet Do not install a secondary diode — the electromagnet already includes a metal oxide varistor for interference suppression.

    Regular Maintenance

    • Clean electromagnet and armature contact surfaces with a soft cloth and non-abrasive, non-corrosive cleaner.
    • Apply a light coat of silicon lubricant to both contact surfaces and wipe away excess to prevent rust.
    • Check that the armature plate is securely attached but can still pivot slightly around its screw.
    • Check that the electromagnet remains securely attached to the gate or post.

    Warranty

    ENFORCER Electromagnetic Locks are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for one (1) year from the date of sale to the original customer. Obligation is limited to repair or replacement of defective parts; unit must be returned transportation prepaid to SECO-LARM.
