Yale Real Living Push Button Lever (YRL210ZWx) — Installation and Programming Instructions

Installation and programming instructions for the Yale Real Living™ Push Button Lever (YRL210ZWx series) — a keyless push-button entry lever lock with PIN code management and optional Z-Wave network module.

⚠ Follow these instructions carefully — improper installation can damage the product and void the factory warranty.

What's in the Box

• 4x M4 x 8mm pan head machine screws
• 4x #7 wood & #8-32 machine x 20mm combination screws
• 2x M4 x 25.4mm pan head machine screws
• 2x set screws
• 1x hex key

Tools needed: #2 Phillips screwdriver. Through-bolt post length is 2-3/8" by default, or 2-3/4" optional depending on door backset.

Determining Lever Handing

Door handing is determined from the secure side of the door (the side from which you initially unlock and enter):

• LH (Left Hand): hinges left, opens inward
• LHR (Left Hand Reverse): hinges left, opens outward
• RH (Right Hand): hinges right, opens inward
• RHR (Right Hand Reverse): hinges right, opens outward

Installation Overview

1. Install latch & strike plate on the outside of the door and door frame.
2. Install the exterior keypad escutcheon. Do not remove the retaining clip until Step 6.
3. Install the interior mounting plate — loosen the screw to remove the cover first.
4. Attach the cable assembly that connects the exterior keypad to the interior mechanism.
5. Install the interior escutcheon.
6. Install the exterior lever. Remove the clip; do not rotate the internal cam (marked red) — the red mark must stay on top and in position. Do not overtighten, and do not turn counter-clockwise.
7. Test operation before final assembly.
8. Install the interior lever. Do not overtighten.
9. Install the optional radio module (for Z-Wave network connectivity), if applicable.
10. Install batteries and the battery cover. The keypad will display "Welcome to Yale Real Living."

After installation, continue with the Programming Instructions to set up the Master PIN code and customize the lock.

Resetting to Factory Default

Warning: resetting deletes all user codes (including the Master PIN) and restores all default settings.

1. Remove the battery cover and batteries.
2. Remove the interior escutcheon to access the reset button (located above the PCB cable connector).
3. While pressing the reset button (minimum 3 seconds), reinstall the batteries, then release the button.
4. Replace the battery cover.

After a reset, creating the Master PIN Code is the only available option and must be done before any other programming.

Programming Instructions

Max user codes: 250 with the Network Module installed, or 25 without. The Master PIN Code must be created before any further programming.

1. Creating the Master PIN Code

Follow the keypad prompts and enter a 4–8 digit PIN when prompted, confirming with the check-mark key.

2. Creating User PIN Codes

The Master PIN must exist first. Enter the Master PIN, follow the keypad prompts, select a user number (1–25 or 1–250 with Network Module), then enter a 4–8 digit PIN code for that user.

3. Unlocking with a PIN Code

Enter the PIN code, then press "Unlock."

Factory Settings

Key Terms

• All Code Lockout Mode: enabled by the Master code; restricts all non-Master PIN access. Attempting entry while locked out causes the keypad to flash 8 times and the lock to beep 3 times.
• Audio Mode: disabling silences the code-confirmation tone for quiet areas; controlled by the Master code.
• Low Battery: Status Indicator flashes red when battery power is low; use the key override if power is fully lost.
• Network Setting: connects the lock to a network controller via Menu option 7 or the wireless button on the interior escutcheon.
• One Touch Locking: activating the keypad extends the latch when retracted (during re-lock duration, or when Auto Re-lock is disabled).
• Tamper Alert: sounds an audible alarm if someone tries to forcibly remove the outside lock from the door.
• Wrong Code Entry Limit: after 5 failed PIN attempts, the unit shuts down and blocks further operation.

Feature Programming via Menu Mode

Enter the 4–8 digit Master PIN followed by the M key, then enter the digit for the function to perform, followed by the M key. Options include: Master PIN Code Setting, User PIN Code Registration (register/delete, user numbers 1–25 without Network Module or 1–250 with it), Advanced Lock Settings (Automatic Re-lock enable/disable, One Touch Locking enable/disable, Handing the Lock — automatic), Audio Mode (enable/disable — select Disable for quiet areas), All Code Lockout Mode (enable/disable), and Network Setting (join/exit network).

Hardware Troubleshooting

• Door is binding: check door/frame alignment and that the door swings freely; check hinges for looseness or wear.
• Latch will not deadlock: check clearance in the strike-side jamb (deepen the pocket if needed); check for latch/strike misalignment.
• Latch does not extend/retract smoothly: check for misalignment, backset adjustment, correct door prep/re-boring, and that the keypad wire harness is routed under the latch.

Replacing the cylinder: follow Step 6 (Installing Exterior Lever) in reverse to remove the old cylinder, then follow the same step to install the new one. Test with "Testing Operation" afterward.

Programming Troubleshooting

Note: Network-connected locks have a real-time clock reset upon battery replacement — verify correct date/time, especially around Daylight Saving Time changes.
