    September 08, 2026 2 min read

Quick install guide for the Qolsys IQ Tilt wireless garage door tilt sensor, including specifications and panel programming.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Quick install guide for the Qolsys IQ Tilt (model QS1131840 / QS1121-840) — a wireless garage door tilt sensor for the Qolsys IQ security panel.

    Overview

The IQ Tilt tells you whether an overhead garage door is open or closed. The sensor houses a cylinder with a metal bearing inside. When the sensor tilts, the bearing rolls down the cylinder away from the metal contacts, disconnecting a circuit and sending a signal to the panel indicating the garage has been opened.

Note: improper orientation and/or placement of the bearing cylinder may result in false alarms or incorrect signals.

    Installation Steps

    1. Remove battery tabs from the sensor.
    2. Apply adhesive to mount the sensor.
    3. Set tube orientation: the internal cylinder should be angled inside the sensor housing as illustrated on the device (this affects proper bearing operation).
    4. Choose installation location: mount on the top panel of the garage door.
    5. Sensor placement: mount the sensor horizontally with the arrow facing DOWN. The arrow on the side of the sensor must face down for correct operation.
    6. Learn into panel:
      1. Place the security panel into "autolearn" mode.
      2. Open and close the sensor case to "tamper" the device, triggering it to transmit its ID to the panel.
      3. Customize the sensor's name and settings on the panel as desired, then touch "ADD."
