    User's Guide for the PulseWorx (Powerline Control Systems) UPB 6-Button Controller — available as wall-mount (WMC6) or desktop (DTC6). Covers default operation, customizing pushbutton behavior with the UPStart setup tool, LED indicators, and special modes.

    Overview

    The 6-Button Controller is a pushbutton device that transmits Universal Powerline Bus™ (UPB) commands over the 120VAC powerline to remotely control other UPB devices (like PCS Wall Switch Dimmers) — no new wiring required. It has eight pushbuttons (ON, OFF, A, B, C, D, plus a split UP/DN rocker), six LED indicators, and an IR remote receiver.

    Connections

    • WMC6 (wall-mount): two wires connect it to the powerline — black for line voltage (120VAC 60Hz), white for neutral.
    • DTC6 (desktop): standard two-prong electrical cord for any standard 120VAC 60Hz outlet.

    Default Scene Lighting System

    Out of the box, each 6-Button Controller is pre-configured to control all PCS Wall Switch Dimmers on the powerline as a simple scene lighting system — ideal for controlling all lights in a single room or small house:

    • ON Button: Single-tap or hold fades all dimmers to 100% over 3.3 seconds; double-tap snaps instantly to 100%.
    • OFF Button: Single-tap or hold fades all dimmers to 0% over 3.3 seconds; double-tap snaps instantly to off.
    • A/B/C/D Buttons: Each recalls a different preset scene/light level on the connected dimmers (factory defaults documented per-button in the guide).
    • UP/DN Rocker: Bright/dim control — hold to fade, release to stop fading.

    Pushbutton Events

    Event Definition
    Single-Tap Pressed briefly and released
    Double-Tap Pressed and released, then quickly pressed and released again
    Hold Pressed and held for at least ¾ second
    Release Released after a Hold event

    Customizing Behavior with UPStart

    UPStart (free setup software from PulseWorx.com) lets installers reconfigure each pushbutton's behavior. Available UPB commands include: Activate, Deactivate, Goto On, Goto Off, Fade Up, Fade Down, Fade Stop, Snap On, Snap Off, Quick On, Quick Off, Slow On, Slow Off, Blink.

    UPStart Transmit Modes (preset behavior templates)

    Scene Activator Transmits "Activate" on tap or hold — recalls a preset scene
    Off Button "Activate" on tap/hold; "Snap Off" on double-tap
    On Button "Activate" on tap/hold; "Snap On" on double-tap
    Dim Button "Fade Down" while held, "Fade Stop" on release
    Bright Button "Fade Up" while held, "Fade Stop" on release
    Top Rocker Emulates a Wall Switch Dimmer's top rocker: "Goto On" on tap, "Snap On" on double-tap, "Fade Up" while held
    Bottom Rocker Emulates the bottom rocker: "Goto Off" on tap, "Snap Off" on double-tap, "Fade Down" while held
    Panic Button "Blink" on tap/hold (alarm-style flashing); double-tap "Goto Off" to stop
    Toggle Button Alternates Activate/Deactivate on each press — single-button on/off
    On/Off Button Alternates Goto On/Goto Off; single-button on/off
    Super Toggler Combines toggling on/off, snap, and dimming control on one button (common on 8-Button Controllers)
    Null Button Transmits nothing
    Custom Button Assign any two commands per event manually

    Links & Scenes

    All control in the PulseWorx UPB system is done via Links — up to 254 per network. Devices sharing a common Link are "linked" together and can communicate. Wall Switch Dimmers can store up to 16 Links, each with its own preset light level and fade rate (a Scene). One pushbutton can be linked to multiple dimmers so a single press recalls a coordinated scene across several fixtures.

    Wall switches can be manually linked/unlinked to a controller button without UPStart for simple configurations; full flexibility (custom scenes, toggling, named links) requires the UPStart software and a Powerline Interface Module (PIM).

    LED Indicators

    • Can be set to 1 of 4 brightness levels, or off, and can double as a nightlight.
    • LED Tracking, Group Behavior, and Keypad Backlight are all configurable via UPStart.

    Special Modes

    Setup Mode

    Enter: Press and hold both the ON and OFF pushbuttons together — all LEDs begin blinking. Exit: Press and hold ON and OFF again — LEDs stop blinking. Setup Mode auto-times-out after ~5 minutes.

    Factory Default Mode

    Only reachable from Setup Mode. From Setup Mode, press and hold the A and D pushbuttons together — the ON and OFF LEDs light steady to confirm. Exit the same way as Setup Mode (hold ON + OFF). Factory Default Mode does not auto-time-out.
