PulseWorx ICM — Input Control Module Installation Guide & Owner's Manual

Installation guide and owner's manual for the PulseWorx Model ICM Input Control Module — a plug-in UPB (Universal Powerline Bus) transmitter that converts contact closures or low-voltage inputs into UPB lighting/link commands over existing power wiring.

Overview

The ICM is a high-quality plug-in home automation controller that transmits UPB digital commands over existing power wiring. It sends preconfigured commands to turn on, off, or blink other UPB devices whenever a contact closure is made or a low voltage is present on either of its two separate inputs. No radio frequency signals are used, and only limited additional wiring is required.

Typical Uses

The ICM is well suited for interfacing off-the-shelf motion sensors, light sensors, occupancy sensors, pressure mats, RF remote controls, pushbuttons, etc. to the PulseWorx Lighting Control System to trigger actions such as:

• Flash a light for the hearing impaired
• Turn off a vacuum or appliance
• Automatically turn on porch lights
• Automatically turn on security cameras

Input Sensing Modes

Each of the ICM's two input channels can be configured for one of two sensing modes: contact closure or low voltage. Two jumpers under the Terminal Connector select the desired mode per channel.

Important Safety Instructions

Installation

The ICM is designed for indoor use only.

1. Locate any free grounded wall outlet throughout the home and plug in the ICM.
2. Optionally, secure the ICM to the wall outlet by screwing the wall plate center screw through the ICM's mounting tab.
3. Remove the supplied Terminal Block from the ICM's Terminal Connector.
4. Connect two wires from the first Switch (or Sensor) to the Terminal Block, terminating to blocks 1 and 2 using the clamping screws provided.
5. Connect two wires from the second Switch (or Sensor) to the Terminal Block, terminating to blocks 3 and 4.
6. Plug the Terminal Block back into the Terminal Connector.

Configuration

PCS has developed a Powerline Interface Module (PIM) and free UPStart software to configure PulseWorx Lighting System devices. The User's Guide is available on the PulseWorx website (www.PulseWorx.com).

UPStart Configuration Steps

1. Add the ICM to your UPB Network — select Device → Add in UPStart. UPStart will find your ICM and allow you to name it.
2. Start ICM Configuration — double-click the ICM icon and select the Transmit Components tab.
3. Specify the Link(s) to Control — select one link to be controlled for each channel.
4. Specify the Sensing Mode — press the Mode button and select a Sense Mode.
5. Specify a Suspend Link (optional) — a sense channel can be enabled/disabled by a UPB Link command. Use the Receive Components tab to specify the controlling Link. The channel suspends on a DEACTIVATE (or GOTO 0%) command and activates on ACTIVATE (or GOTO >0%).
6. Program the ICM — press the Program Device button to write the configuration into the ICM.

SETUP Mode

To configure a UPB system, place the ICM into SETUP mode by pressing the Program Button five times rapidly. The Status LED blinks continuously Blue in SETUP mode. To exit, press the Program Button twice or wait five minutes for it to time out.

Factory Default Settings

To restore factory defaults, place the ICM into SETUP mode, then press the Program Button ten times rapidly. The Status LED blinks red when defaults have been restored; press the Program Button twice more to stop the blinking.

Operation

Once installed and configured, the ICM operates on the stored configuration settings without further user intervention. For example, when a doorbell switch is pressed, the doorbell rings and the ICM transmits the configured UPB command onto the powerline.
