    Quick installation guide for the OPTEX INS-QXI-ST, an InSight Series visual verification PIR camera that combines a PIR motion detector with an integrated PoE IP camera for video alarm verification via the CHeKT portal.

    Overview

    The INS-QXI-ST pairs a passive infrared (PIR) intrusion detector with a built-in HD camera in a single outdoor-rated housing. On detection, the unit captures verification images/video that are pushed through a CHeKT bridge device to the CHeKT monitoring portal, letting a central station or end user visually confirm an alarm before dispatch. Power and data are delivered over a single PoE (802.3af) Ethernet cable, with an optional local 12V DC input as backup.

    Installation Steps

    1. Disassemble & install the mounting plate — separate the back cover from the main body, then secure the mounting plate to the wall with 2 screws. Hook the fall-prevention wire. Drill a 25 mm (1") or larger hole for cable pass-through if routing cables through the wall; use a single-gang box for exposed wiring.
    2. Connect cables to the device — wire the 8-pin I/O cable (power, tamper, alarm, N/A — do not connect to the N/A terminal), connect the PoE LAN cable (also usable as camera/PIR power backup), and optionally the 12V DC power cable. Only the connector may be fixed inside the body with double-sided tape; the LAN connector itself must remain stored in the wall.
    3. Secure the main body back onto the mounting plate, taking care not to pinch cables during assembly.
    4. IP address settings — default network type is dynamic (DHCP). Without a DHCP server, after one minute the unit sets a static address shown on the product label (username: root, default password: OPTEX — change immediately). Download the IP installer utility from OPTEX's site to locate/configure the camera.
    5. Register the device to the CHeKT portal — log in to the CHeKT Dealer Portal, select the customer and Site Devices, choose the associated bridge device, open bridge settings via the gear icon, and register the PIR camera under the appropriate tab.
    6. Detection area settings & walk test — adjust horizontal angle (±95°) by loosening one side screw and rotating; adjust PIR vertical angle (0° to −20°) to keep the detection surface parallel to the ground — do not use vertical adjustment for any other purpose. Adjust camera angle independently (recommended 25°–35°; default 30°, min 20°, max 35°) since images can appear dim/blurred in low light outside that range.
    7. PIR area masking & switch settings — default coverage is 12.0 m (40') at 120° wide. DIP switches set PIR sensitivity (Super High / High / Middle / Low, default Middle), and alarm output must remain N.C. (switching to N.O. may cause unstable performance). Do not move the mirror or PCB from factory settings, as this disables Pet Alley mode.
    8. Final check — replace the back cover, then perform a walk test (walk through the coverage area) and a system check (verify the detection image appears correctly in the CHeKT monitoring portal).

    Troubleshooting: Factory Reset

    To reset the camera (e.g. forgotten password), locate the reset switch behind the cable access area and press it for 5 seconds. This resets the IP address, ID, password, and camera settings to factory defaults. Take care not to pinch the cable when restoring the PIR detector cover afterward.

    This product includes functionality to capture moving images of the monitored area but does not store or register such images itself. Installers and end users are responsible for compliance with local privacy, personal information, and image/recording laws applicable to camera installation and use. Tested to comply with FCC Part 15 Class A limits for digital devices. Includes open source software (OSS) distributed under GPL/LGPL and other OSS licenses; source code is available on request for at least 3 years from purchase.
