    Installation instructions for the On-Q Low Pass Filters (IS-0154), used to block unwanted high-frequency channels in coax video distribution systems.

    Overview

    On-Q offers two low pass filters: P/N 364456-02 (5–560 MHz) and P/N 364456-03 (5–750 MHz).

    • 364456-02: passes channels 2 through 79, blocks channel 80 and higher (analog cable, 6 MHz channel bandwidths).
    • 364456-03: passes channels 2 through 116, blocks channel 117 and higher (analog cable, 6 MHz channel bandwidths).

    These filters are used to create clear frequency space when there are no available channels left to modulate a signal onto.

    Description

    On-Q Low Pass Filters are in-line filters with an "F"-style port for cable in and cable out. The filter has a rugged die-cast case that is solder-sealed for shielding. Case dimensions: 4-1/4" long × 1" wide × 5/8" deep.

    Installation Steps

    1. Determine where the filter is to be used — see the manual's wiring diagram for the correct insertion point and connection into the video distribution system (between the CATV input and the video distribution amplifier).
    2. Use quality 75-ohm jumper cables to connect the filter into the application. If making your own jumper cables, use RG6 cable with appropriate connectors and tools.

    Important Notes

    • Most video problems are associated with cable connections — take proper care when preparing and connecting cables.
    • The filter should be installed before the video engine or amplifier.
    • Digital cable usually occupies a 2 MHz channel bandwidth (vs. 6 MHz for analog), so the "channel 80 and higher" filter (5–560 MHz) could actually block channels 240 and higher on digital systems. Confirm your cable provider's frequency/channel assignments, or temporarily insert the filter to see what is lost.
    • If set-top boxes are used, you may need to work around this filter — On-Q offers a Channel 2-4 Notch Filter (P/N 364456-01) for that purpose.
