On-Q/Legrand lyriQ™ Standard Keypad (AU7394-xx) — Instruction/Installation Sheet

Instruction/installation sheet for the On-Q/Legrand lyriQ™ Standard Keypad (P/N AU7394-xx), an integral component of the lyriQ™ Multi-Room Audio System. Combined with a Source Input Unit, Distribution Module, speakers, and source equipment, it creates a whole-house audio system. Document IS-0391 REV. D. Available in White (-WH), Light Almond (-LA), Ivory (-IV), or Black (-BK).

Description

The lyriQ™ Standard Keypad uses Category 5 wiring to distribute audio signals, control information, and IR for remote control. It has two on-board Class D amplifiers for clean sound output, plus the ability to control other keypad volume settings throughout the house. It can be combined with the lyriQ™ High Performance Keypad (AU1000-xx) in the same system.

The front panel includes push buttons for VOLUME UP/DOWN (with five green Volume Bar Graph LEDs), SOURCE (with four green Source Selection LEDs), and MUTE (with a red status LED), plus an IR target window and tri-colored status LED. The rear panel has an RJ45 jack (J1) for connection to the lyriQ™ Audio Distribution Module, plus spring-loaded TB2 speaker output terminals (L/R, +/-, up to 14 gauge wire) and TB1 Line Out terminals for a powered subwoofer or external amplifier. Recommended for indoor use only.

Installation

Best accomplished at two stages during new construction: "Rough-in" (before drywall) and "Trim-out" (after drywall is installed and painted). Always follow TIA-570-B wiring standards for Category 5 cable; maintain a minimum 12" separation between Cat5 cable and any 120VAC cabling.

Rough-In Steps

• Run a single Category 5 cable from the enclosure location to a single-gang outlet box or mud ring at each Volume Control location.
• Recommended: Also run a 16/4 speaker wire alongside the Cat5 cable to support future upgrades to High Performance Keypads.

Trim-Out Steps

1. Terminate the pre-wired Category 5 cable with an RJ45 plug following the T568A wiring standard, and insert into jack J1.
2. For the Line Out/Speakers Out connections (TB1/TB2), strip 3/8" of insulation from each conductor and insert into the correct terminals — polarity and channels are clearly marked (L+, L-, R-, R+). Use TB2 for one pair of 8-ohm evōQ™ speakers; use TB1 for a powered subwoofer or external amplifier (these terminals don't provide amplification, but keypad volume controls the output level).
3. In the enclosure, terminate the Cat5 cable with an RJ45 plug (T568A standard) into a zone output jack on the lyriQ™ audio distribution module. To connect more than 4 keypads to a Single Source 4 Zone Module (or 8 to a 4-Source 8-Zone Module), cascade Single Source Modules by running a Cat5 jumper from the "Cascade Out" jack of the first module to the "Source In" jack of the second.
4. Check all connections and test system operation before installing the volume controls into the wall. Use the included screws to mount the volume control and wall plate into the single-gang box (a 20 in³ or larger box is recommended).

Operation

• ON/OFF: Keypad — press any button for ON, press and hold MUTE for OFF. Remote — press On-Q button, then On/Off to toggle.
• Source Select: Keypad — press SOURCE button repeatedly. Remote — press SOURCE UP/DOWN. Volume ramps down then back up automatically on source change.
• Volume Steps: Press VOLUME UP/DOWN (40 steps on keypad, 36 on remote).
• Mute: Press MUTE to toggle on/off.
• Back Light Level Adjust: Press and hold VOLUME UP and DOWN simultaneously; button back lights flash to indicate adjustment mode; press VOLUME UP/DOWN to adjust; press SOURCE or MUTE to exit (or wait 10 seconds for timeout).
• Temporary Do Not Disturb (DND): Double-tap MUTE; Status/IR LED glows dim red. The keypad will not respond to whole-house commands while in DND. Press any button to disable.
• Whole-House Source Control / Party Mode: Press MUTE and SOURCE simultaneously — IR/Status LED blinks orange. All operations (Volume, Mute, Source, Power) on the local keypad are relayed to all active keypads. Press and hold SOURCE to turn on all keypads to the selected source; double-tap SOURCE to sync all active keypads directly to the local keypad's current source. Exits automatically after 10 seconds of inactivity, or by pressing MUTE + SOURCE again.

Important Safety Precautions

• Do not attempt to service, move, or change any system component unless qualified.
• Installation must be performed by a qualified installer and conform to all local building/electrical codes.
• Do not apply power until all components are installed and wiring is properly terminated.
• Turn off power at the lyriQ™ enclosure and unplug the power transformer(s) before terminating, changing, or removing any wiring.
• Install components away from heat sources (HVAC ducts/registers, stoves, etc.).
• Do not expose indoor-rated components to moisture — this creates electrical hazards and voids the warranty.
• Do not use vacuum cleaners, liquid, or aerosol cleaners on system components.

Installer Settings Reference Guide

Applies to AU5009-xx, AU5010-xx (Studio Keypads), AU7394-xx, and AU1000-xx. Enter Installer Setting Mode by quickly pressing Mute, Volume Up, Volume Down, Volume Down — twice in sequence.
