    August 31, 2026 3 min read

Installation instructions for the Chief Thinstall MSTU Medium Static Universal Wall Mount for flat-panel displays.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation instructions for the Chief Thinstall™ Medium Static Universal Mount (MSTU) — a low-profile fixed wall mount for flat-panel displays, fitting hole patterns between 100×100mm and 600×400mm.

    Important Warnings

    • The wall structure must support five times the combined weight of all mounted equipment. Reinforce the structure as needed before installing.
    • Combined weight of all components between the MSTU and the display (inclusive) must not exceed 125 lbs (56.7 kg).
    • Display depth cannot exceed 5 inches (127 mm).
    • Displays can weigh in excess of 40 lbs (18.1 kg) — always use two people and proper lifting technique when installing the display.
    • Improper installation can lead to the mount falling, causing severe personal injury or equipment damage.

    Dimensions

    • Hole pattern range: 100×100mm (min) to 600×400mm (max)
    • Wall plate width: 706mm (27.81")

    Tools Required

    • 3/16" (4.8mm) drill bit
    • 5/16" (7.9mm) drill bit
    • M2.5, M3, M4, M5 Allen/hex-head wrenches (included)

Wall Plate Installation — Wood Studs

    1. Determine mount location based on display size and safety requirements.
    2. Use a stud finder to locate studs (wall plate can mount on studs 16" apart).
    3. Using the wall plate as a template, mark and drill four 3/16" diameter pilot holes centered in each stud, at least 2-1/4" deep.
    4. Install four connector screws (D) through the wall plate and into the pilot holes using the M4 Allen Head bit (C).

Wall Plate Installation — Concrete, Concrete Block, or Brick

    1. Determine mount location based on display size and safety requirements.
    2. Using the wall plate as a template, mark and drill four 5/16" diameter pilot holes; use a level to ensure the wall plate is perfectly horizontal. Holes must be at least 2-1/4" deep.
    3. Install four anchors (Z) into the pilot holes, tapping them in with a hammer.
    4. Install four connector screws (D) through the wall plate holes and into the anchors.

    Display Installation

    1. Lay the display face-down on a level, non-abrasive surface (use a cloth to avoid scratching the screen).
    2. Position the two interface brackets (B) over the mounting holes on the back of the display. The diamond hole in each bracket should sit halfway between the installation holes for proper weight distribution. Spacers are typically only needed for recessed or bump-out back screens.
    3. Determine the correct screws for the display's mounting holes — screws should make at least three full turns into the mounting holes; use longer screws from the hardware kit if needed.
    4. Match washers/spacers to screw size (see table below).
    5. Install button head cap screws through required washers, spacers, and interface brackets into the holes on the back of the display, with locking flags in the open position.
    6. With two people supporting both sides of the display, lift it to the wall plate.
    7. Guide the hooks on top of the interface brackets onto the wall plate at the desired mounting location, then swing the display toward the wall.
    8. Slowly pull the bottom of the display away from the wall until the kickstand fully reaches its down position.
    9. Slowly release the display until the kickstand locks against the bottom of the mount.
    10. Rotate the locking flags on each interface bracket to the closed position to lock the brackets to the wall plate.

    Cable Management

The MSTU features a kickstand allowing cable access without removing the display from the wall.

    1. Ensure the kickstand is firmly in the down position.
    2. Attach or adjust cables on the back of the display as necessary.
    3. To disengage the kickstand, slightly pull the display away from the wall and pull down on the cable management straps to release it, then slowly allow the display to return to the wall.

Note: Due to the low-profile design of the Thinstall Series, displays with cable connections coming straight out of the back may require 90-degree cable connectors. Chief offers in-wall accessories to assist with recessing cables and connections. Certain displays may have limited space available for cable management.
