    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation instructions for the On-Q/Legrand Selective Call Intercom Room Unit (PN IC5000-XX), a core component of the On-Q Selective Call Intercom System. Available in white, light almond, gloss black, and titanium finishes.

    Overview

The Room Unit is a two-gang decorator-style device with a color LCD graphical interface providing intercom functions — talk, talk-to-door, monitor, and mute — plus advanced features like dynamic sorting of users and monitoring multiple rooms simultaneously. It's the only interface used to custom-configure and personalize the On-Q Selective Call Intercom System, and it connects to the Selective Call Distribution Module in the system enclosure via a single Cat 5e cable.

    Installation

Installation is typically done in two phases during new construction: "Rough-in" (before drywall) and "Trim-out" (after drywall is installed and painted).

    Rough-In

    • Mount the two-gang box at eye level — the bottom of the box should be approximately 56" from the floor for optimal LCD viewing.
    • Run a Cat 5 cable from the enclosure (where the Distribution Module will be installed) to the two-gang deep electrical box at the Room Unit location.
    • Keep all Cat 5e cable runs at least 12 inches away from AC electrical cables. If crossing an AC cable is unavoidable, cross only at a 90-degree angle.

    Trim-Out

All terminations use the T568A pin assignment standard for RJ45 plugs (Room Units, Door Units, Patio Units, and Modules all use RJ45):

    Pin Wire
    1 White/Green
    2 Green
    3 White/Orange
    4 Blue
    5 White/Blue
    6 Orange
    7 White/Brown
    8 Brown
    1. Terminate an RJ45 plug on the Cat 5 cable from the Selective Call Intercom Module and attach it to the RJ45 jack on the rear of the Room Unit, following T568A standards.
    2. Insert the Room Unit and Cat 5 cable into the two-gang box and secure with the 4 included panhead screws. If using the screwless wallplate option, install the mounting plate with 4 flathead screws and snap on the wall plate cover.
    3. Terminate the other end of the Cat 5 cable at the Selective Call Intercom Module with an RJ45 plug, again per T568A.
    4. Insert the RJ45 plug into any of the eight ROOM UNIT jacks on the Selective Call Intercom Module in the enclosure.
    5. Power on the module and verify system functionality. All Room, Door, and Patio Units will be discovered and shown on each Room Unit's LCD.

    Operation

Refer to the Selective Call System Installation Manual (P/N 1308003) and User Manual (P/N 1308001), shipped with the Room Unit and Module respectively, for full operational details. Key controls:

    • LCD: Displays caller identity, status of all units in the system, and pop-up operational messages.
    • Talk/Select: Hold while speaking to communicate with the selected unit (or all units, if "All" is selected). Release when done.
    • Volume (+/-): Displays a bar graph on the LCD while adjusting; returns to normal display after 2 seconds of inactivity.
    • Monitor: Puts the unit in listening mode — the microphone stays active and any sound in the room is audible to monitoring stations. Multiple units can be in Monitor mode simultaneously. A doorbell button press at a Door Unit will NOT trigger a chime at a Room Unit that's in Monitor mode.
    • Mute: Deactivates both speaker and microphone for privacy. Combined with Monitor mode, the unit cannot be contacted at all.
