    Owner's Manual for the On-Q/Legrand DA1458 8-Port GigE Switch with 4-Port PoE Injector — a structured-wiring switch module providing eight 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet ports, four of which supply IEEE 802.3af PoE power for cameras, access points, or VoIP phones.

    Overview

    The DA1458 provides eight ports of Gigabit Ethernet switching. Four of those ports are labeled "Data + Power" and deliver full 48VDC power for IEEE 802.3af powered devices (third-party wireless access points, IP phones, IP cameras) over Cat 5/6 wiring, while the other four "Data" ports are switching only. Power is supplied by a separate PW1248 48VDC 60W AC adapter (sold separately), supporting up to 15.4 Watts of PoE per port.

    Designed as a standard two-bay module, the DA1458 mounts to the included bracket in an On-Q style structured-wiring enclosure. It complies with IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet), 802.3u (Fast Ethernet), 802.3ab (Gigabit Ethernet), 802.3x (Flow Control), and 802.3af (Power over Ethernet).

    Note: 48VDC power is delivered on pins 4 and 5 of the connected Cat 5/6 cable; ground is on pins 7 and 8.

    Physical Description

    • 8x RJ-45 jacks for 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet (4 labeled "Data," 4 labeled "Data + Power")
    • 48VDC power input jack
    • Power LED — indicates 48VDC input power is present
    • 8x Port LNK/ACT LEDs — indicate active Ethernet data on that port
    • 4x PoE LEDs — indicate 48VDC power is being provided on those ports

    Installation — "Rough-In" Phase

    1. Run a single dedicated Cat 5/6 cable in the walls from the structured wiring enclosure location (where the DA1458 will be installed) to each location that needs an Ethernet interface or an 802.3af device — leave extra cable at both ends.
    2. At each selected location, follow the Ethernet/802.3af device's installation instructions for electrical gang boxes or low-voltage brackets, leaving extra Cat 5/6 cable in the box (or attached so it can be fished out after drywall).

    Note: Run Cat 5/6 cable at least 12" from electrical cabling (preferably a separate stud cavity), crossing electrical cables at a 90° angle. Use loose Velcro-style ties for bundling; if stapling, use specialty staples that won't compress the cable.

    Installation — "Trim-Out" Phase

    1. Pull out the Cat 5/6 cable at each location and terminate with an RJ45 plug (or insert as required) per standard TIA 568A recommendations; for PoE devices, attach via a Cat 5/6 jumper to the installed 802.3af device.
    2. In the structured wiring enclosure, terminate the Cat 5/6 cables from remote locations with RJ45 plugs for direct connection to the DA1458's "Data" or "Data + Power" jacks.
    3. Attach the DA1458 to the two-bay bracket with push pins in each corner, then install the bracket in the enclosure by slipping the tabs into the square holes and securing with push pins in the round holes.
    4. If a router is present in the enclosure, use a Cat 5/6 patch cable to connect a router port to one of the DA1458's "Data" or "Data + Power" ports.
    5. Power the DA1458 using the AC-to-DC adapter, plugged into an AC source.

    Typical use case: the DA1458 expands router/switch port count while distributing PoE to Ethernet devices (PCs) and IEEE 802.3af PoE devices (IP cameras, VoIP phones, PoE wireless access points).

    Regulatory

    Tested and found compliant with FCC Part 15, Subpart B, Class A digital device limits. If interference to radio/TV is suspected, try reorienting the receiving antenna, relocating the receiver away from the DA1458, or plugging the DA1458 into a different branch circuit. CE Mark: Class A device — in a domestic environment this product may cause radio interference, requiring the user to take adequate measures.
