Leviton 476TM Series — Twist & Mount Patch Panel Installation

Installation instructions for the Leviton Twist & Mount Patch Panel family — structured cabling patch panels for home or small-office telephone and data distribution, designed for Leviton's Structured Media® (SMC) enclosures. This page covers the full family of configurations, safety notes, and step-by-step termination/mounting instructions.

Important Safety Information

• Do not use this product near water (tub, sink, laundry tub, wet basement, pool).
• Never push objects into the product through openings — they may contact dangerous voltages.
• Never install communications wiring or components during a lightning storm.
• Never install communications components in wet locations unless specifically designed for it.
• Never touch uninsulated wires or terminals unless wiring has been disconnected at the network interface.
• To prevent electrical shock, every opening must be filled with a module.

Required tools for termination: angle cutters (if using the provided plastic tool), professional impact tool with 110 cutting blade, wire cutters, UTP wire stripping tool.

Installation

1) Getting Started

• Plan: Determine outlet locations needed for phone, fax, modem, Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet.
• Define: Label each wire with its corresponding location/ID using the Wiring Identification Chart at the end of the instructions.
• Organize: Separate voice wires from data wires in the SMC. Route wires through the top or bottom of the panel — bottom entry is preferred when using conduit, to leave an adequate service loop.

2) Installation — Mount for Termination

Mount the Twist & Mount Panel with the 110 IDCs facing out of the enclosure, top of panel facing up. Align the installation hooks with the grid holes on the back of the enclosure and slide the panel down until it hangs securely.

Cable Termination

1. Run twisted-pair cable to the panel from wall outlets. Strip approximately 3" of outer jacket.
2. Match wire color coding to the 110 IDC color-coded termination diagram. Terminate all four pairs of each cable — Cat 5e wire to Cat 5e ports, Cat 6 wire to Cat 6 ports.
3. Slide each wire into the wire holder in its channel.

Wiring standard: TIA-570-B Residential Wiring Standard calls for T568A termination. Some buildings require T568B — flip the color-coded diagram over for T568B and make sure wall outlets match the standard you choose. For voice: Line 1 = Blue pair, Line 2 = Orange pair, Line 3 = Green pair, Line 4 = Brown pair.

• Using the plastic tool: push the wire into the correct color-coded 110 IDC slot, then trim excess wire with diagonal cutters.
• Using a professional punch tool: orient the tool with the cutting blade correctly, then push straight down until it seats and trims the wire (audible click).

3) Mounting to the Enclosure

After terminating all wires, slide the panel up and pull it away from the enclosure to release the installation hooks. Twist the panel 180° horizontally, align the mounting pins with the enclosure's grid holes, feed excess cable into the wall cavity, and press the unit into the grid with the mounting pin plungers in the "out" position — then push the plungers in to secure. Dress the service loop of wires along the side of the enclosure.

4) Labeling

Reference your completed Wiring Identification Chart to label each jack with its location and service type (data or telephone). Slide labels from the top of the panel into the label holders, then peel the protective film from each label cover and place it over the paper label to protect it.

Limited 2-Year Warranty

Leviton warrants this product to the original consumer purchaser to be free of defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for two years from purchase. Leviton's sole obligation is repair or replacement, at its option, if the product is returned prepaid with proof of purchase within the warranty period, to: Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc., Att: Quality Assurance Department, 201 North Service Road, Melville, N.Y. 11747.

This warranty excludes labor for removal/reinstallation, and is void if the product is installed improperly, overloaded, misused, opened, abused, altered, or not used per instructions.
