NetMedia Caller-TV (CTV1) — User Manual and Installation Guide
User's manual and installation guide for the NetMedia Caller-TV (model CTV1) — a legacy device that displays Caller-ID information from a home phone line directly on a television screen, using your existing telephone company Caller-ID/Call Display service.
Caller-TV connects between your phone line and TV (or between your phone line, other video source, and TV) and, after the first or second ring, overlays the caller's name and number at the bottom of the screen in large letters. Depending on the installation chosen, it can display info on top of a live TV channel, in Picture-in-Picture (PIP), or on its own "blue screen" when no other video source is active. There are no buttons or remote controls — it works automatically whenever a call comes in, and it retains the last caller's information until the next call.
Caller-ID/Call Display service must be activated by the telephone company for this device to work. Caller-TV is S-Video compatible with the optional Caller-TV S-Video Adapter Kit.
Additional cables may be needed depending on your setup.
Which installation to use depends on the TV's available inputs:
Connect Caller-TV's Video Out to the TV's Video 1 input, connect the telephone line and cable TV through the unit, and set the TV to Video 1. Caller-ID information (and the last-call blue screen) only appears while the TV is on the Video input — not on cable channels. Works well with PIP televisions.
Route video through the VCR/DVD unit; set the TV to Video 1 and use the VCR to change channels. Caller-ID appears over all cable channels this way. Turn off the VCR to view the last call's info.
Cable box feeds the VCR, which feeds Caller-TV, which feeds the TV's Video 1 input; use the cable box to change channels. An optional connection exists, but using it means Caller-ID won't display while the TV is in ANT/CABLE mode. Turn off the VCR to review the last call.
Similar wiring using a satellite receiver in place of a cable box; set the TV to Video Input, use the satellite receiver to change channels, and power off the receiver to view the last call.
Use a NetMedia RF modulator (tuned to channel 88 in the example) to distribute the Caller-TV overlay to multiple TVs throughout the house via the antenna/cable distribution system. Each TV must be in ANT/CABLE mode tuned to the modulated channel to see the Caller-ID overlay.
For TVs lacking a video input, route through the VCR's antenna/RF output and tune the TV to VCR channel 3 or 4.
Caller-TV may not display every call — this depends on data provided by the phone company (may be affected by call origination or caller ID blocking).
This device complies with FCC Part 15 (Class B) and Part 68. An FCC-compliant RJ11 cord/plug is provided; the sum of all device Ringer Equivalence Numbers (REN) on one phone line should generally not exceed 5.0 — contact your phone company to confirm for your area. If the equipment causes network harm, the phone company may temporarily discontinue service (with advance notice where possible) and will inform you of your right to file an FCC complaint. Do not disassemble the unit — no user-serviceable parts inside. Keep away from water, don't overload outlets, and don't place anything on the cords.
