    Installation instructions for the Napco RP1054e Keypad — a backlit alphanumeric keypad for use with Napco MA1000e, MA1008e, and MA1010 control panels, and as a replacement keypad for MA854, MA1008-series, and MA1010-series panels.

    Overview

    The RP1054e features a large 7-segment alphanumeric display for control-panel information and zone identification. Installation runs on only four wires. This manual covers installation only — refer to the accompanying User's Guide (OI160) for keypad functions/operation, and to the control panel's installation manual for panel mounting, wiring, and programming.

    Mounting

    • Opening the keypad: insert a medium screwdriver into either of the two slots along the bottom edge (about 1 inch from each side) and push up with a slight twist to release the retainer tab. Repeat for the other slot, then pull out at the bottom and lift off the top hooks.
    • The keypad includes a pull-up reference label (required for UL installations) — install it by pushing the Sliding Label Plate down the guides at the rear until it snaps into place, before mounting to the wall.
    • When installing the rear case, ensure the words "UP" and "TOP" (molded into the case) are properly oriented.
    • Four angled elongated holes allow direct wall mounting with leveling adjustment. Four corner holes accommodate replacing an RP854 Keypad with RPB-1 Backplate for direct wall mounting.
    • For double-gang box installation: insert mounting screws through the two vertical elongated holes on the left side into the box, adjust vertically if visible from the front, then add one or two additional screws at the right side directly into the wall for a secure installation.

    Remote Panic: splice the two white wires to a normally-open momentary-contact pushbutton switch; additional panic buttons can be wired in parallel. If not used, insulate both white leads (a short across them triggers a panic alarm). In UL installations, remote panic buttons must be located in the same room as the keypad.

    Note: Be careful not to splash solder onto the keypad circuit board or components when soldering connections.

    Keypad Panics (F/P/A)

    The RP1054e supports Fire/Police/Auxiliary panics. Cut Jumper E to enable them. If enabled:

    • Fire Panic: press [9/F] and [#] simultaneously
    • Police Panic: press [*/P] and [#] simultaneously
    • Auxiliary Panic: press [B/A] and [#] simultaneously

    If used as a replacement keypad in MA854 or MA1008 systems (which lack F/A/P panic), or MA1010 systems without F/P/A panic, Jumper E must remain intact.

    Jumper Options

    • Jumper A — cut to disable all three keypad-panic features and the two white remote-panic wires.
    • Jumper B — cut to disable the sounder completely. Do not disable in UL installations.
    • Jumper C — cut to disable touchpad backlighting (conserves 15mA).
    • Jumper D — cut to reduce backlight intensity (conserves 6mA).
    • Jumper E — cut to enable F/P/A keypad panics.

    Backlighting requires no additional wiring; the keypad is dimly backlit by default.

    Hold the indicated key for about 2 seconds (until a beep sounds):

    System Trouble Indications (MA1000e-Series Only)

    • AC Failure — displays when AC power is restored after a lengthy outage and the backup battery is dead.
    • Low Battery — displays when battery terminal voltage drops below its specified level.
    • Failure to Communicate — indicates a transmission failure. Hold [9] to reset, then hold [6] to test the phone lines.
    • Auto-Download Failure (where available) — indicates a failed Function-6 Auto-Download from the PCD2000. Reset with [9] and retry.

    If a system trouble isn't corrected, it reappears after about 3 minutes. Hold Reset Key [9] to temporarily check zone status and/or arm the system.

    Keypad Programming (MA1000-Series Only, Dealer Program Mode)

    1 / 6 PRIOR — go back to previous location
    2 / 3 NEXT — advance to next location
    4 DATA UP — cycle data (1–9, 0, B–F) ascending
    7 DATA DOWN — cycle data descending
    5 CLEAR — clear data from selected location
    8 EXIT — enter Dealer Program Code within 10 seconds to verify and exit
    B SET LOCATION — enter a 3-digit location number

    Completing Installation

    To reassemble the keypad after installation: hang the top of the front panel onto the hooks in the rear case, then push in firmly at the bottom until the retainer tabs snap into place. (If difficulty is encountered, push the retainer tabs up slightly using a screwdriver, as when removing.)
