    August 31, 2026 3 min read

Full user manual for the Aeotec aërQ Z-Wave Gen7 Temperature and Humidity Sensor (ZWA039), covering pairing, LED indicators, association groups, and configuration parameters.

    Full text manual (for reference)

User manual for the Aeotec aërQ Temperature and Humidity Sensor (ZWA039), a Z-Wave Gen7 battery-powered sensor that records ambient temperature and humidity and warns of conditions ideal for mould growth.

    Package Contents

    • 1x aërQ Temperature and Humidity Sensor
    • 1x Battery, type CR2477H 3V
    • 1x Paper guide
    • 1x Double-sided tape

    Before You Buy

Confirm with your Z-Wave Gateway/Controller manufacturer that this device is compatible — most Z-Wave gateways are generically compatible with Switch and Sensor type devices.

    Button Functions

    Push Type Function Description
Long press, 10s Reset Initiates local device reset. Green LED flashes once per second for 5 seconds. Solid green after 10s = success; solid red = failure.
Short press Ideal Mould Environment Sense + Wakeup Report Forces an immediate reading and reports danger level via Binary Sensor Report if humidity is high; also sends a Wakeup Report so queued controller commands can be delivered.
3x short press Sequence Used to pair or unpair the sensor.

    Setup

    Opening the Sensor

Find the 2 indented arrows on the side of the sensor. Place your thumb and index finger on them and push in — if mounted, pull the sensor to separate it from the base; if not mounted, grip the bottom half with your other hand and pull the two halves apart.

    Remove the Battery Tab

    1. Open the sensor to expose the battery.
    2. Remove the battery and the battery block tab.
    3. Recycle or discard the tab.
    4. Replace the battery with the + side facing outward.

    Mounting

    1. Apply the double-sided adhesive tape to the bottom of the sensor.
    2. Choose a location and firmly press to mount.
    3. Remove the sensor from its mount before pairing.

    Pairing to a Z-Wave Network

SmartStart Inclusion (if supported by your gateway)

    1. Select SmartStart inclusion in your gateway/controller interface.
    2. Scan the QR code on the aërQ sensor.
    3. Within 10 minutes of powering the sensor, it automatically joins the network.

    Classic Inclusion

    1. Place your gateway/controller into Z-Wave pair/inclusion mode.
    2. Tap the Tamper Switch on the sensor 3x within 1 second.
    3. Your gateway confirms successful inclusion.
    4. Place the sensor on its mounting base.

    Product Usage

Once paired, the sensor measures air parameters every 15 minutes. Tapping the Tamper Switch once forces an immediate measurement and updates the danger-level indication.

    LED Indicators

    State Indication
Unpaired, entering pairing Red and Green blink every second (may not be visible if pairing is fast)
Pair success Solid Green for 1.5 seconds
Pair failed (timeout) Solid Red for 1.5 seconds
Paired — good environment Green LED
Paired — ideal for mould growth Red LED
Low battery Red blinks 3x, Green blinks once

    Sensor Accuracy

    • Humidity: ±3% relative humidity, ±1%
    • Temperature: 0–65°C ±1 Kelvin
    • Dew Point: 0–65°C ±1 Kelvin (calculated)

    Command Classes Reported

    • Binary Sensor V2: ON/0xFF if humidity > 70%; OFF/0x00 if humidity < 70%.
    • Multilevel Sensor V11: Air Temperature (°C), Humidity (%), Dew Point (°C) — all Precision 1, Size 2 (temp/dew point) or Precision 0 (humidity).

    Advanced: Sleeping Device Communication

This battery-powered device sleeps deeply to conserve power. It wakes periodically to send a Wakeup Report, during which the controller can deliver queued commands. To manually wake it: unlatch from the mounting base and tap the button once.

    Removing / Resetting

Remove from Network (via existing gateway)

    1. Place the gateway/controller into Z-Wave unpair/exclusion mode.
    2. Tap the button 3x within 1 second.
    3. Gateway confirms exclusion — the LED blinks red once per second, ready to pair again.

Manual Factory Reset (no controller needed)

Push the button for 20 seconds. Use only when the primary controller is inoperable, as this can leave a phantom node on your network.

    Association Groups

    Group Max Nodes Description
    1 5 Lifeline
    2 5 Temperature High Trigger (params 5, 10)
    3 5 Temperature Low Trigger (params 6, 9)
    4 5 Humidity High Trigger (params 7, 12)
    5 5 Humidity Low Trigger (params 8, 11)
    6 5 Air Temperature

    Key Configuration Parameters

    # Parameter Default Range
