Napco GEM-RTRANS — Recessed Window/Door Transmitter Installation Guide

Installation instructions for the Napco GEM-RTRANS Recessed Window/Door Transmitter — a wireless sensor for Napco GEM-series wireless alarm systems.

General Description

• Recessed window/door transmitter used with the supplied magnet as a window/door sensor.
• Powered by a 3-volt lithium battery (Duracell DL123A or Varta/Power-One CR123A), rated for up to 5 years. A low-battery report is sent to the receiver when voltage drops below normal.
• Each transmitter has a unique factory-programmed code (printed on the board and transmitter tube) that identifies it to the receiver — enter the full 6-digit hexadecimal code plus checksum digit into the control panel, including leading zeros.

Installation Steps

1. Remove the Tube Cap: insert a flat-blade screwdriver or needle-nose pliers into the cap slots and turn counter-clockwise until the locking tabs release.
2. Insert the battery into the PC Board — positive (+) terminal toward the board. It will not make contact if inserted backwards.
3. Choose a mounting location — avoid low placement near the floor, which can reduce range and risk damage. Typical spots: above the door sill or in the door frame near the doorknob strike plate.
4. Drill a 7/8" x 6" hole for the Transmitter Tube. Caution: check for high-voltage wiring in the wall before drilling. (A Hole Plug is provided to fill any mis-drilled holes.)
5. Insert the Transmitter Tube into the wall (tap gently with a hammer if needed), then secure with caulking or the provided screws through the flange tabs. If using no screws, the flange tabs can be broken off.
6. Insert the PC Board into the tube, battery end first. If mounted above a door, hold the board in place so it doesn't slip out.
7. Close the tube: place the Tube Cap over the end and turn clockwise with a screwdriver or pliers to secure.
8. Drill a 1/2" x 1-3/4" hole in the door for the Recessed Door Sensor Magnet; tap the magnet into place with a hammer. Gap must be less than 1/2".
9. Program the control panel with: (a) the zone number, (b) the 6-digit ID code plus checksum digit, and (c) wireless point number 1. Refer to your specific panel/keypad's programming instructions. In UL burglary installations, program the burglary alarm output for all protective devices.

Typical Mounting Locations

Common installs place the magnet in the door with the transmitter inside the door frame, or the magnet inside the window with the transmitter inside the window frame.

Regulatory Notes

Changes or modifications not approved by Napco may void the user's authority to operate the equipment. This device may not cause interference and must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.

Warranty

Napco Security Systems, Inc. warrants its products against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for 36 months from the date of manufacture, and will repair or replace defective units at its option, without charge to the original purchaser. Warranty excludes equipment that has been repaired by others, improperly installed, misused, altered, or damaged; NAPCO is not responsible for dismantling/reinstallation charges. NAPCO recommends testing the entire security system weekly.
