  • NuVo AccentPLUS1 Architectural Speakers (NV-AP18C) — Owner's Manual & Specifications

    August 31, 2026 4 min read

Owner's manual for the NuVo AccentPLUS1 In-Wall & In-Ceiling Architectural Speaker series (including the NV-AP18C 8" ceiling speaker) — installation, painting instructions, and full specs across the line.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Owner's manual for the NuVo AccentPLUS1 In-Wall & In-Ceiling Architectural Speaker series, covering the NV-AP18C 8" ceiling speaker and related AccentPLUS1 models — installation, wiring, painting, and full specifications.

    Overview

The AccentPLUS1 series represents NuVo's flagship in-wall and in-ceiling architectural speaker line, combining high-quality components with NuVo's manufacturing process for years of reliable audio performance.

    Speaker Placement

Proper placement is critical to speaker performance. Consider the room's optimal listening area and orient speakers to face it, with 8–10 feet of separation between left and right speakers.

    • In-wall speakers: mount at ear level or slightly higher.
    • In-ceiling speakers: mount to the left and right of the optimal listening area.

In existing construction, avoid conflicts with wiring, heat ducts, or water lines. AccentPLUS1 rough-in brackets can double as a cutout template for drywall installation, placed between studs or ceiling joists during pre-construction.

    Installation

    1. Use a stud finder to locate studs near the chosen speaker location, leaving enough clearance for the mounting "dog-ears" to clamp properly against the drywall.
    2. Trace the cutout using the provided template, and use a level to confirm the cutout line is straight.
    3. In existing wall installations, drill a small hole in the center of the cutout first to check for hidden obstructions before cutting the full opening with a drywall saw.
    4. If the cavity behind the speaker isn't already insulated, add insulation to fill it — face any foil or paper backing away from the speaker.
    5. Pull 16-gauge (2- or 4-conductor) speaker wire through the cutout. (Most distributed audio systems are not designed to accept wire larger than 14-gauge.)
    6. Strip 1/2" of insulation from the wire. While pressing down on each terminal post, insert the conductors: red = positive, black = negative (some wire marks the positive lead with a dark stripe in the insulation).
    7. Center the speaker in the cutout and turn the mounting screws clockwise until the "dog-ears" hold it snug against the drywall — don't over-tighten.
    8. If desired, pivot the tweeter to aim it toward the listening area.
    9. Install the grill by placing it over the speaker and pressing evenly around the outside edge. Do not press on the center of the grill.

    Painting the Speaker (Optional)

The grill and trim can be painted to match your wall color. Each speaker ships with a clear plastic paint plug to protect internal components during painting. Always remove the grill before painting.

    • AccentPLUS1 grills use a micro-perforation design — thin paint at a 5:1 ratio and spray it on to avoid clogging the perforations and degrading sound quality.
    • For best results, paint both the inside and outside of the grill. A decorative fiber backing on the inside of the grill can be easily removed for painting.

If you get no audio after installation, check that the speaker wires haven't disconnected from the terminal posts and that there's no short in the wiring.
