    Dealer/installer programming reference for the NAPCO GEM-P801 security control panel. Use in conjunction with Installation Manual WI1089 for full definitions.

    Overview

    The GEM-P801 is a computerized security system panel programmed via keypad through numbered "Programming Blocks." Programming is done in Dealer Program Mode using two block types: LED Programming Blocks (press the key matching a zone/feature to toggle its LED on/off) and Direct Entry Programming Blocks (type digits directly; use G+1-6 for hex A-F).

    Entering & Exiting Dealer Program Mode

    • Cannot enter Dealer Program Mode while the panel is Armed, Reporting, or with the Bell Output on — unless you power up the panel and enter Dealer Mode within the first 3 minutes (press C to clear the 3-minute timer).
    • To enter: press the Dealer Code (default shown in parentheses on the panel — commonly 4-5-6-7).
    • To exit: press C, then the Dealer Code again.
    • After 15 minutes of keypad inactivity in Dealer Program Mode, the keypad emits a steady tone. Enter the Dealer Code to exit, or press C to return to Dealer Program mode.

    Keypad Key Reference

    • Set Key (C): Press before entering a Programming Block number.
    • Scroll Key (E): Scroll through data already entered in a Programming Block.
    • Blank Key (F): Disable all features in an LED-type block, or blank digits in a Direct Entry block.
    • Hexadecimal Entry: A = G+1, B = G+2, C = G+3, D = G+4, E = G+5, F = G+6.

    Programming Example (LED Block)

    Program zones 2 and 3 as Follower Zones (Block 02): Press C (beep), then 02 (beep). Press 2 to select zone 2. Press 3 to select zone 3. The LEDs for zones 2 and 3 light to confirm.

    Programming Example (Direct Entry Block)

    Set a 60-second Exit Delay (Block 10): Press C (beep), 10 (beep), then 060.

    Program a hex telephone dialing prefix of "9E" (Block 44): Press C (beep), 44 (beep), then 9, then G, then 5 (G+5 = hex E).

    Viewing Programmed Data

    Press C + the Block Number to view the 1st digit; press E to advance through remaining digits. Data displays in binary LED pattern per digit value 0-F. Note: In Subscriber ID Numbers, Phone Numbers, Pager Leading/Trailing digits, and Report Codes, a value entered as "0" displays as "A".

    Defaulting the Panel

    1. Remove power from the panel.
    2. Remove all wiring from terminal 19 (PGM) and terminal 3.
    3. Connect terminal 19 (PGM) to terminal 3.
    4. Apply power to the panel.
    5. After a few seconds, ARMED, READY, and SYSTEM TROUBLE LEDs flash.
    6. Keypad beeps 3 times, indicating default values loaded.
    7. Remove the jumper wire between terminal 19 (PGM) and terminal 3.
    8. Re-install original wiring for terminal 19 (PGM) and terminal 3.

    Note: Dealer Options 1 [96] and Dealer Options 2 [97] are not defaulted. If Dealer Code Lockout is enabled, the panel will not default the Dealer Code. The Event Log is erased on default.

    Wireless Transmitter Programming Example

    Map point 1 of a window/door transmitter (RF ID# 0012B0:0) to Zone 3, Block 73:

    1. Enter Dealer Mode.
    2. Enter C (beeps), then 73 (beeps).
    3. Enter 0 0 1 2 G 2 0 0 (the "G 2" enters the hexadecimal "B").
    4. Enter 1 (beeps) for point 1.

    If the RF ID# is entered incorrectly, the keypad emits a 1-second error tone — repeat steps 2-4.

    Wiring & Power (GEM-P801)

    • Battery: 12VDC 4AH or 7AH rechargeable, recommended Yuasa NP4-12 / NP7-12; replace every 5 years. Residential Fire configuration requires the 7AH battery.
    • Standby ratings: Residential Burg (4-hour standby): combined standby 500mA, bell 2.0A. Residential Fire (24-hour standby): combined standby 120mA, bell 95mA.
    • Transformer: 16VAC 20VA, NAPCO TRF12 or equivalent, Class 2 — do not connect to a switched outlet.
    • Zone terminals: Zones 1-6 shown with 2.2K EOL resistors on the standard wiring diagram; GEM-RP8/GEM-RECV-XP8 expansion for additional zones.
    • Panel must be checked by a qualified technician at least once every 3 years; test weekly in AC/Battery mode and Battery-only mode (contact Central Station before testing; restore AC after).
    • This panel supports only one smoke detector in alarm and only one bell in residential fire applications.
    • Install per Chapter 2 of the National Fire Alarm Code (ANSI/NFPA 72-1996) and local codes. UL-Listed Energy Cable is required.
    • Warning: disconnect telephone lines prior to servicing, to prevent risk of electric shock.
