GE Universal Remote Control (24911/34927/34928) — Instruction Manual

Instruction manual for the GE-branded Universal Remote Control (models 24911, 34927, 34928) — controls thousands of audio/video devices including TVs, DVD players, cable boxes, satellite receivers, and more. This remote comes pre-programmed for Samsung TVs (press TV to use it immediately with a Samsung TV).

Setup — Batteries

• Requires two (2) AAA batteries (not included, alkaline recommended).
• On the back of the remote, push down on the tab and pull the cover to remove; match the (+)/(-) marks, insert batteries, then snap the cover back into place.
• Battery Precautions: Do not mix old and new batteries. Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc), or rechargeable (Ni-Cd, Ni-MH) battery types. Remove old/weak/worn batteries promptly and dispose of/recycle per local regulations.
• Battery Saver: The remote automatically turns off if buttons are held down for more than 8 seconds (e.g. stuck between sofa cushions).
• Code Saver: You have up to 10 minutes to change batteries without losing your programmed codes.

Button Functions

• Power — turns devices ON/OFF
• TV / cbl/sat / dvd/vcr — selects the device to control
• Setup — programs the remote; doubles as Shift to access Menu, Ok, and Exit functions
• Record, Play, Stop, Rewind, Fast Forward, Pause
• Input — selects video inputs
• Mute — mutes sound; in Shift mode, becomes Ok (selects menu items)
• Channel Up/Down, Volume Left/Right — controls channels/volume; in Shift mode, becomes menu navigation
• Info — displays on-screen show info; in Shift mode, becomes Menu
• Previous Channel — returns to last channel; in Shift mode, becomes Exit
• Number buttons — direct channel selection
• Dot (•) — selects digital sub-channels, e.g. 4.1
• Enter — required by some devices after channel selection

Programming Your Remote

Two programming methods are available. Direct Code Entry is recommended as the simplest/quickest in most cases. Use Auto Code Search if you don't have (or can't find) a working code in the printed Code List.

Direct Code Entry (Recommended)

1. In the included Code List booklet, find the section for your device type (TV, cbl, dvd) and circle all codes listed for your brand.
2. Press and hold SETUP until the red light turns on, then release. The red light stays on.
3. Press and release the device button (TV, cbl, dvd) for the type of device you want to control. The red light blinks once and stays on.
   Note: Any device button can be programmed to control any device category — e.g., use CBL to control a satellite receiver, digital converter box, or streaming media player.
4. Enter the first 4-digit code you circled using the number buttons. The red light turns off after the 4th digit.
5. Point the remote at the device and test the buttons. If it doesn't respond correctly, repeat from step 2 using the next circled code.
6. Repeat steps 1–5 for each device you want to control.

Programming Notes: Some codes only operate a few functions — try another code from the list for more functionality. For combo devices (TV/DVD, TV/VCR), you may need a separate code for each part under different device buttons (see Controlling Combo Devices below). Write down the codes you use for future reference.

Auto Code Search

Searches all codes stored in the remote to find one that works for your device. Read through all steps before starting.

1. Manually turn on the device. (This method requires devices with power ON/OFF capability — use Direct Code Entry otherwise.)
2. Press and hold SETUP until the red light turns on, then release.
3. Press and release the device button (TV, cbl, dvd). The red light blinks once and stays on.
4. Point the remote at the device and press POWER. The remote sends 10 different codes; the red light blinks once per code. Did the device turn off?
   • If YES → go to step 5.
   • If NO → repeat step 4 to test the next 10 codes.
5. Manually turn the device back on.
6. Point the remote at the device and press VOL to re-send the first code from step 4's batch of 10.
   • Did the device turn off? If YES, you found the code — press and release the same device button from step 3 to store it. Go to step 7.
   • If NO, keep pressing VOL to step through the remaining 9 codes (wait ~3 seconds between presses). When the device turns off, press the device button from step 3 to store the code. Go to step 7.
   Note: VOL can be pressed to go backwards through the batch. The red light flashes twice after testing the first or last code in each batch of 10.
7. Turn the device back on with the remote and test the buttons. If it doesn't respond correctly, repeat from step 2 to search for a better code.
8. Repeat this whole process for each device.

Controlling Combo Devices

Combo devices (TV/VCR, TV/DVD, DVD/VCR, etc.) often need two separate Mode buttons programmed — for example, a TV/DVD combo might need a code under the TV button for the TV portion, plus a separate code under another Mode button for the DVD portion.

Using SHIFT

SHIFT/SETUP unlocks a second function on certain buttons:

• Menu — press SHIFT/SETUP, then Info/Menu
• Exit — press SHIFT/SETUP, then Previous Channel/Exit
• Ok — press SHIFT/SETUP, then Mute/Ok
• Up/Down/Left/Right Navigation — press SHIFT/SETUP, then the respective Channel or Volume button

The remote stays in Shift mode until SHIFT is pressed again, or after 10 seconds of inactivity. The red light blinks while in Shift mode.

Master Volume Feature

Lets you designate a single device (e.g., an audio receiver) that the volume buttons always control, even while the remote is set to control a different device (e.g., TV mode).

Enabling

1. Hold SETUP ~2 seconds until the red light stays on, then release.
2. Press and release the device button (TV, DVD, SAT) you want to designate for volume control.
3. Press and release MUTE.
4. Press and release VOL — the red light blinks twice and turns off.

Disabling

1. Hold SETUP ~2 seconds until the red light stays on, then release.
2. Press and release the device button currently programmed for Master Volume.
3. Press and release MUTE.
4. Press and release VOL — the red light blinks twice and turns off.

Code Identification

Reveals which 4-digit code is currently programmed into a device button:

1. Hold SETUP ~2 seconds until the red light stays on, then release.
2. Press and release the desired device button (TV, DVD/VCR, CBL/SAT).
3. Press and release ENTER.
4. Press and release #1 — count the flashes for the first code digit. Repeat with #2, #3, #4 for the remaining digits.
5. Press and release ENTER to exit.

Reset to Factory Settings

1. Hold SETUP ~2 seconds until the red light stays on, then release.
2. Press and release MUTE.
3. Press and release #0 — the red light flashes twice, confirming reset.

Troubleshooting

Remote does not operate your device

• Make sure batteries are fresh and installed correctly.
• Aim the remote directly at the device with no obstructions.
• Make sure the correct device button is selected (TV for TV, CBL for cable box, etc.).
• Try programming with a different code (see Direct Code Entry).
• The remote may not be compatible with your device.

Remote does not operate some features of your device

• A particular code might only operate a few features — try a different code from the Code List.
• The remote may not support all features of your device, or button names/functions may differ from your original remote.
