NAPCO GEM-P1664 Control Panel — Programming Instructions

Full programming instructions for the NAPCO GEM-P1664 Hardwire Control Panel/Communicator, covering both the "classic" GEM-RP2ASe2/RP3DGTL/RP4RFC/RP4C keypads and the "K Series" GEM-K2AS/K3DGTL/K4/K4RF keypads. This manual is written for the professional installer.

Note: The unit is designed to be programmed using an IBM-compatible computer with NAPCO PCD-Windows software (see the separate Quickloader for Windows guide). After programming, always run the PCD-Windows error-check utility to guard against programming conflicts. Programming Methods Overview

• Downloading From a Computer — the preferred method, local or remote, via NAPCO's PCD-Windows Quickloader software with context-sensitive help and error-checking. Unattended downloading is not allowed for Fire Alarm or UL installations.
• Easy Menu-Driven Program (Dealer Program) Mode — keypad-based wizard for configuring zone counts, zone types, reporting, exit/entry/interior/24-hour/chime zones, EOLR zones, keypad count, Central Station phone/account numbers, user codes, RF sensors/keyfobs, zone descriptions, dealer code, and more. Available for new panels to build a custom default program.
• Direct Address (Dealer Program) Program Mode — an extension of Dealer Program Mode where data is entered at specific memory addresses for granular control; accessed by pressing "C" at any time from Easy Menu Mode.
• User Program Mode — keypad programming limited to User Codes, for authorized end users (not installers).

Downloading From a Computer

• Local Downloading: connect the panel's download jack (JP2) to a Napco PCI2000/3000 or PCI-MINI computer interface via the supplied 6-conductor cable for direct high-speed transfer.
• Remote Downloading: requires a modem compatible with the PCI2000/3000. Not allowed for Fire Alarm/UL installations when unattended.
• Function Mode: establish a Telco voice connection first; when a steady high-pitched tone is heard, access "ACTIVATE DOWNLOAD" and press U/YES — the site phone goes dead. Hang up and wait for confirmation.
• Callback Method: uses PCD-Windows' Callback-Method Download feature; the panel verifies the Download Security Code and, if a Callback Number is programmed, disconnects and calls the computer back before establishing a connection.

Easy Menu Driven Program Mode

Accessing Dealer Program Mode

1. Press 4 5 6 7 8 9 (default Dealer Code) then the R button.
2. Press PRIOR/NO until "TURNON PROG Y/N" (2-line keypads) or "17" (3/4-line keypads) appears.
3. Press NEXT/YES to enter Dealer Program Mode.
4. Press C twice to exit Dealer Program Mode when finished.

After entering codes/data, press the U (save) button — data is not stored until saved. If no keypad activity occurs for 4+ minutes in Program Mode, a steady tone sounds; press G to silence and continue, or C to exit. For multi-area systems, use Direct Address Programming Mode to complete setup.

Customizing a Default Program (New Panels Only)

A guided wizard configures: number of zones in Area 1, panel zone doubling (doubles hardwired zone capacity from 8 to 16 for N.C. devices using EZ Zone Doubling™ resistors, if 16+ zones are entered), fire zones (2-wire/4-wire), local vs. Central Station reporting, exit/entry zones (1 and 2), interior follower zones, 24-hour zones, chime zones (1 and 2), 50mS loop response zones (note: 750mS required for UL), Aux output-on-alarm zones, Sensor Watch zones, keypad sounder-on-alarm zones, auto bypass re-entry zones (not evaluated by UL), "no EOLR" zones (not for UL installs), Telco line fault test, CP-01 enable, number of keypads, Central Station phone/account number and receiver format, user codes, RF transmitter points (with Quick Enroll method), key fob transmitters, zone descriptions, dealer code, and test timer.

Once a panel has been programmed by any means, the number of zones is suppressed/locked. To start a new custom default program: from Dealer Program Mode, press C to enter Direct Address Mode, access Location 2285 (Clear Program), press U, and start over.

Direct Address Program Mode

This mode lets the installer enter data directly at a 4-digit memory address for fine-grained control beyond the Easy Menu wizard.

Accessing Direct Address Program Mode

1. Press the Dealer Security Code (default 456789) then R.
2. Press PRIOR/NO (Q) until "TURNON PROG Y/N" or "17" appears.
3. Press NEXT/YES (P) to enter Dealer Program Mode — the panel/keypad firmware version briefly displays.
4. Press C to exit Easy Menu Mode and enter Direct Address Program Mode.

Keypad Commands (GEM-K2AS/RP2ASe2)

1. Toggle the cursor to the 4-digit address field using the R button.
2. Enter the address number directly with number buttons 0-9.
3. Enter data directly with number buttons (press G0 through G5 for values 10-15).
4. Press U to save.

Press the 0 button to clear the character at the cursor; use NEXT/PRIOR to move between addresses; press G + P to jump to the next programming block. Press C to exit. On GEM-K3DGTL/RP3DGTL and GEM-K4RF keypads, the A button toggles the cursor between the address field and data field, and address contents are read automatically as you type the address.

User Program Mode

Covers User Code programming only, intended for the end customer (not installer-level access). The Program Mode cannot be accessed while the communicator is transmitting, except during the first 3 minutes after power-up.

Accessing User Program Mode

1. Enter the User Code (default = 123 on a new panel, or any code with the User Program option enabled) then press R.
2. Press Q until "TURNON PROG Y/N" or "17" appears.
3. Press P to enter User Program Mode.
4. Press C to exit when finished.

Programming User Codes

1. Enter the 2-digit User Number (01-64) using number buttons.
2. Press the R button.
3. Enter the Code (1-6 digits) using number buttons.
4. Press U to save each code.

Press G0 to clear the character at the cursor; press P or Q to continue to the next entry. This procedure is the same across GEM-K2AS, GEM-K3DGTL, and GEM-K4RF keypads.

Keypad Configuration Mode

Each keypad must be assigned an address number (1-7) and requires its own configuration procedure. For easier zone-description programming, NAPCO recommends using a GEM-RP1CAe2 or GEM-K1CA keypad (see separate NAPCO document WI1422) since the GEM-K2AS/RP2ASe2's reduced display cannot program zone descriptions.
